When my Mom died, the people from my Disney email loop called around to restaurants by me(someone even called from Alabama!) and had food delivered to my home so I didn't have to worry about feeding my family.
That group also collected money and sent it to me, I donated part to the Lance Armstrong Foundation and used the rest for a dinner at Garden Grill with my family on our WDW trip. I had taken my Mom to WDW for her first(and only) time the year before she died, just she and I, and this was her favorite meal, we had such a good time, so it was nice to go there and remember her and remember friends that had helped us through with their kindness.
My girls from my Sept 2001 Moms email loop had a dogwood tree planted in my yard in memory of my Mom...and 2 girls drove from VA and MA down to the wake and funeral. It took them 7 hours because of traffic. They and a girl from NJ came.
I had no idea they were coming. That was honestly one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me. I was SO shocked to see them that it kind of made me focus on other things rather than the pain of losing my Mom at that point.
I have so many things like this from those two groups, girls that go shopping for me when they go to WDW, and then send what I've requested along with a few things tucked in for the kids, more than once.
I asked one of those ladies to look for Small World clothes for a friend of mine, they didn't find any, but I recieved a Small World pin in the mail to give to my friend, whom they had never even met.
A married couple from the Disney loop sent me tons of clothes that their daughter never or barely even wore that my DD loved.
My Moms loop had a Christmas ornament exchange. I recieved a HUGE box in the mail form my "secret pal" filled, just filled with stuff, candles, and treats, and Christmas tchotchkes, an
Amazon gc..including the ornament, along with one for my husband and each of my kids.
I've had wonderful experiences.
