Has anyone ever done something nice for you online? (insp. by scam thread)

Yep.

Quite recently in fact.

On the disboards I stated I was looking for a Mater toy.

mtblujeans sent me a PM saying that she had one and would send it to me. I asked how I could pay her for the shipping and she said don't worry about it.

I thought that was very nice. :)

Thanks for starting this thread so everyone can see the good that goes with the bad. I hope this thread grows to at least twice the size of the "scammer" thread!

I hope so too! I was reading the scammer thread and it made me so sad, but for every story I read about a scam, I remembered some of the good things that have happened to me because of some wonderful people on the internet. :goodvibes

I remember a very good friend that I never got to meet. Her name was Julie/Jabbers, and she saw me through some very dark times in my life. She passed away before we could meet, but I'll always consider her as much of a real friend as those who have been in my life since childhood.

i used to be part of a very busy AOL message board and a sweet guy there took a picture of my kids from my profile and painted them in oil and mailed in to me from california! it's gorgeous

i also rented DC points from a perfect stranger here on DIS and she made it very easy for me!

When my Mom died, the people from my Disney email loop called around to restaurants by me(someone even called from Alabama!) and had food delivered to my home so I didn't have to worry about feeding my family.
That group also collected money and sent it to me, I donated part to the Lance Armstrong Foundation and used the rest for a dinner at Garden Grill with my family on our WDW trip. I had taken my Mom to WDW for her first(and only) time the year before she died, just she and I, and this was her favorite meal, we had such a good time, so it was nice to go there and remember her and remember friends that had helped us through with their kindness.

My girls from my Sept 2001 Moms email loop had a dogwood tree planted in my yard in memory of my Mom...and 2 girls drove from VA and MA down to the wake and funeral. It took them 7 hours because of traffic. They and a girl from NJ came.
I had no idea they were coming. That was honestly one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me. I was SO shocked to see them that it kind of made me focus on other things rather than the pain of losing my Mom at that point.

I have so many things like this from those two groups, girls that go shopping for me when they go to WDW, and then send what I've requested along with a few things tucked in for the kids, more than once.
I asked one of those ladies to look for Small World clothes for a friend of mine, they didn't find any, but I recieved a Small World pin in the mail to give to my friend, whom they had never even met.

A married couple from the Disney loop sent me tons of clothes that their daughter never or barely even wore that my DD loved.

My Moms loop had a Christmas ornament exchange. I recieved a HUGE box in the mail form my "secret pal" filled, just filled with stuff, candles, and treats, and Christmas tchotchkes, an Amazon gc..including the ornament, along with one for my husband and each of my kids.

I've had wonderful experiences. :goodvibes

Just recently Nutsy sent a box of wonderful items from Australia to my family.

For my sons 5th grade science fair project we needed postcards from all over the USA and the world. All it took was one post and so many here on the Dis sent cards as well as passed along the info to people they knew.

All the wonderful exchanges I have had the privilage to be part of.

A DISer here sent us Yankee tickets for free and would not allow me to pay her. It was at a time when $ was not readily available and it happened to fall during DH's vacation week. We had no plans to go anywhere so that Yankee game was the highlight of our summer! :thumbsup2 Yeah for random acts of kindness!

A DISer recently contacted me and said that she had to cancel her December trip. She'd already bought tickets to MVMCP and is sending them to DD and I. Very nice!!!!

Oh Yeah,

MsLeFevre ( A DISer ) had her husband desigh a logo for me..... no charge.... But then I sent them several bottles of my BBQ sauces as a thank you.... but they would not take money.

YES!!!
There was a Bath & Body Works thread here once. You posted what your favorite scents were. I posted mine, & said it was recently discontinued & couldn't find any more.

Snoopy saw some at a clearance sale & bought several bottles even though she couldn't remember who wanted them. So basically she was taking a chance by spending her own $. She posted asking who it was that was looking for them. I responded. She mailed me several bottles AND a bath mitt & wouldn't take any money for it.

What a sweet person!! :lovestruc And we had not been regular posters to each other AT all.

Without going into a lot of details, the very members of this awesome board helped me make it possible for a family to experience their first Disney trip. The amount of love, kindness, and support extended to this particular family was absolutely overwhelming. While it ended up being controversial in some ways, it was the single most gratifying event in my life (with the exception of having my children). The generous nature of complete strangers was well beyond anything I could have ever imagined possible. I will never be able to thank everyone enough for all that they did to make the trip for the dance family a once in a lifetime experience.

In a different way, when my coworker's baby was violently shaken last December, the emotional support from this board was again overwhelming. This is a wonderful place filled with incredibly amazing people.

Again, I will never find words to express my gratitude.

Yes, and they were DISers. They know who they are, and in a very bad time, they helped my daughter and I out immensely!

I've had LOTS of people do wonderful things for me. Too many to list them all but mtbluejeans sent me an orange peeler I'd scoured the town looking for. I know it seems like such a little thing but it's the niftiest little invention ever. Dan Murphy and Feralpeg sent me beautiful hats when I started chemo. A host of Disers too many to list sent me fabric and notions for making headwraps. I made some for myself and a TON that I took to the children's cancer center. We have some of the most generous and kind people I've ever known in our little family here :grouphug:
