Welcome back! Did you do any tours in San Juan? My kids really want to do the ziplining tour there but it is $125 a person!
Did you ever cut it close by using independent tours? That is one of my biggest fears--that the tour will run late and I will miss the ship! I know Carnival will wait for you if you are on one of their sponsored tours, but you are out of luck with the independents.
I know I am probably being irrational....![]()
We didn't do any organized tours in San Juan. We spent 1 day prior at the Sheraton Old San Juan and we walked up to downtown and the El Morro Fort which we toured. I would have liked a tour but by the end of the cruise we were happy to spend our two post cruise nights relaxing at our hotel, Marriott San Juan and Stellaris Casino. We did ziplining in St. Kitts and it was a new (8 months old) place. We LOVED it!! I felt completely safe and we had a blast. I have heard great things about Acampa tours in San Juan. ETA: the cost in St. Kitts for ziplining was only $85/person and it was the only one I booked through Carnival.
As for using independent companies, I loved it because it saved us money and we got to do some things (like swimming with sea lions) that wouldn't have been available through the ship. These tour operators make their money through word of mouth and believe me, if I had missed the boat due to their mistake I would make sure EVERYONE knew about it. We were never even close to the cut off time to be on board and we had some full days. Like a PP suggested, I used Cruise Critic to pick which tours I wanted to do and they were all great, there were none I wouldn't recommend.
