has anyone ever been to the Soo locks up in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan? What did u think of it?

We went this week, i thought it was pretty cool. A huge iron ore ship came through while we were there. and how u can see Canada is cool to, its kinda pretty

Been there....but not in about seven years. It is really cool! I always wonder at things like the locks, golden gate bridge, detroit tunnel.....they did these things before computers, huge machines, etc.....I love the show modern marvels where they explain how they came up with some of this stuff.

I always watch the ore boats with some sadness. In the 'old' days they used to just dig holes and mine and the small town in the UP where my family is from (Negaunee) is about 1/2 gone because the ground is sinking.

The UP is a real hidden jewel though...very little development and tons of national and state land.

My dh is from Soo Ontario. We are up in the Soo at least once a year. I have actually only gone on the Soo locks tour once. It was great. I guess I did it from the Canadian side. It was really interesting how they managed to do what they did with what they had. I think one of my dh's relatives worked on it.
