Has anyone ever been there the last week in Aug?

We'll be there from 8/28 to 9/4. (My kids don't start school until Sept. 8th.) I didn't want to pull them from school so I figured this might be our best bet. I know it will be very hot. But I figured that will be easier to deal with if you're not waiting in long lines all day.
Any comments on people who have been there this week will be appreciated! TIA

I'ld love to hear too as I'm going 8/28 to 8/31. I'm hoping for low crowds as this was a last minute trip and I was able to get an Annual Pass discount on 2 rooms and they were available for any of the resorts I checked (Pop, POR, and ASMo where we're going) and I was able to get ADR's of choice at less than 1 month out.

I'm taking just my DS(4) and my DD(6) is spending 2 nights at my Dsis but she has to come home Mon 8/29 as my Dniece starts school on 8/30 and that is here in MA. My DD starts first grade 9/7.

I have a coworker who said that was great week. Everyone's either back to school or getting ready.

We will be going from Aug. 26-Sept. 3. This will be our third visit the last week in August. Crowds are great. The weather is hot, but we usually go to the Parks early, come back and swim and then head back to the Parks at dinner time . it's a great time of the year to go!

We have visited at the end of August and found it unbearably humid. We did the same thing -- early to the parks, then back to the hotel for a break at the pool in the early afternoon. But we still found it too much. It was really the humidity more than the heat. Sorry-- don't mean to spoil the party. The crowds were OK, though.

Maybe you won't mind the humidity like we did.

We went twice at this time, in 2000 and then again in 2004 (Over labor day weekend with hurricane Frances) It is very, very hot. Then again we leave tomorrow for the world and I must say that it is going to be hot this week as well, so just stay hydrated and get indoors as much as possible.

The plus is that it usually is not as crowded

Keep hydrated, you are always ducking in and out of the A/C, and as another poster said - take a break during the hottest part of the afternoon and then go back to the parks later. We are going back 8/29 - 9/3, just can't beat the prices or the airfare at that time of year.

We were right there with you and we to lost two park days because of hurricane frances, but it sure was great anyways. We were there from 8/31-9/07

We are usually there this week but sadly it didn't work out for us this year. You'll see a lot of New Yorkers and New Jersey people as we are the last group to go back to school this late.

Yes it it hot but doable. Drink water, go early, relax in the afternoon and hit the parks again at night. Also if possible try NOT to do MK on Sat of Labor Day week-end, that is always the most crowded day.

Hi! My wife and I just got back and didn't find the corwds bad at all. We were there for 2 weeks - stayed at the nice Radisson Parway, drove to a park every day. We went to the water parks - which were busy but not bad. The thing is the humidity - we went through 2 cases of water bottles!
Drink alot of water - use fast passes regularly - leave when it gets too hot or take in a show like the new Philharmagic at the Kingdom - to get out of the heat. It seems that it's easier to cool off in the Magic Kingdom rather than the others because of the number of inside attractions and shows with the shorter walking spans. Epcot felt like a frying pan a couple of days because it's a walk between buildings.
We did notice a number of rides, mono-rails, etc. broken down for extended periods of time which I did not expect to see.

Two years ago we went the last week of August. The crowds were great. School age children were non-existent. Yes, it's hot. But trust me, it is no hotter than the weather we have had in the midatlantic region this summer. I personally do not think it gets as humid in Orlando as it can get here. Hot yes, but not as humid! Maybe it's my imagination, but I live in Delaware and I think the weather here S_____KS! In Orlando the afternoon storms cool everything down. The worst (hottest) part of the day is between 12 - 2pm. It usually rains around 3pm everyday.

And because I am such a big fan of vacationing the week before school starts, I too will be in Disney the last week of August. Out flight gets back at 9:15 on Labor Day and my kids start school the next day. They are a little unhappy about that. Oh well!

I'll see ya'll down there as well. My dh and I will be there 28 AUg- 1 Sept. We are staying at Pop. A very unplanned and spur of the moment trip thanks to great prices and the army giving us a week off.

Don't forget about us from Minnesota!!! We just passed some sort of law/legislation that public schools can NOT begin before Labor Day!!!

We always travel the last week of August and the past two years have been to WDW. It was soooo great last year that we are going back again this year. (we missed the hurricaines by about 15minutes when they closed MCO, our plane had just taken off!!!)

We are headed down in 6days Aug. 28-Sept3rd. and looks like the weather will be low 90s with chance of rain every afternoon from about 10-60 minutes. Sounds good to me!!! We have our gel/neck bands, Camelback hydration system, wet washcloths and hand fans!! I think we are set.

Storms every night for about 15- 20- minutes around 6 pm lately...

Can anyone tell me how are the crowds the closer you get to Labor Day, does it get worse?

We just got back and found the crowds very manageable. I agree with all the advice given about staying hydrated, get out of the sun, use mister fans, see shows, etc.

But the biggest tip I can give for those not used to that kind of heat is to get the neck cooling scarves. We got the Kafka's Cool ties from www.rei.com and they were worth their weight in gold! We were with friends who live in Florida and we were definitely more comfortable than they were. We did 14 hours at the Magic Kingdom last Saturday and never would've been able to withstand the heat without the ties.

We also are going 8-27 through 9-4. Eight glorious nights at the Wilderness Lodge. Is anyone else concerned about the potential hurricane coming through? We have been watching the weather channel and see that Sunday and Monday we may be in for quite a soaking.

Today on the great Movie ride line, a young man, maybe around 15 or less passed out... Very shocked not to see paramedics or anyone in a medical field on site. He was with family, laying on the floor but not moving. Poor kid, I really hope he is doing better and pray it was just the heat...

Got back yesterday. Very hot (in the 90s) and the humidity is oppressive. The people in the room next to mine came back to shower and said that after 30 seconds outside they wondered why they bothered. I was sorry to hear that, as that was my plan!

It was still crowded and I noticed lots of British people there. Maybe they go back to school later than we?

But, don't they say that a bad day at WDW beats a good day anywhere else? Have a good trip!
