Has anyone else turned into a deluxe snob?

We just returned from a lovely stay at POR, but the whole time I kept thinking, "it's nice, but it's not the Poly". I fell in love with the Poly during our stay there last summer, and nothing else can compare. I love valet parking, I love concierge services, I love the view of the MK and GF- in general, I love the deluxe resorts. Yes, I know I'm spoiled, but how many others like me are out there?

I'm getting there! When booking a trip I consider the moderates as my last choice. Which is sad, b/c I used to love staying at POR and CBR before I went to OKW. Now I have "standards". It's funny how that happens.

Oh Ya, big time! I usually travel with my mom, and a few years ago she decided she'd had it with moderates. We usually only go for 3 or 4 days so the resorts near the parks are a lot more convenient. At this point I also spend a lot of time just hanging around the resort and I find the deluxes are alot more comfortable.

I think it'll be a shock after I'm married and I'll have to go back to moderates for a while! I'm hoping my SO will have a convention at the BW one of these days

Me! I stayed at the CBR for 6 times and then finally went to the WL because it was still cheap. I finally went to a true deluxe, the Poly, and have never looked back!

next September when I stay at my first deluxe, the Wilderness Lodge. I just can't imagine I'll enjoy it more than POR which we've stayed at several times. Some of my favorite movies and books take place in settings that I imagine look just like the landscaping of POR-Alligator Bayou, which is part of the reason I love it so. Plus my first refillable mug was from POR (Dixie Landings back then) and featured the characters from Song of the South (which I'm lucky enough to own and LOVE). I am really looking forward to the WL though, which will be a surprise for my DH and DD(12). Time will tell!!:teeth:

I like to make the excuse (or several) of...

1. We have a party of five...why, the only Disney hotels that will accomodate us are Deluxe. I craftily ignore the fact that POR would work as well.

2. Ahhh...the kids are soo young...being on the monorail means we can hop back for a swim and let them recharge to get more bang for our buck on park tickets.

3. We only take a big vacation every 2 years....we DESERVE it! :)

4. I'm frugal Freida...we don't have cable/satellite..we don't have call waiting...I buy all our clothes at 60% off or greater...I keep the thermostats set higher in the summer and lower in the winter...we keep all our cars beyond 10 years and keep it simple with what we do buy...I buy meats in bulk at Costco and freeze in portions....and I won't pay for fast internet...dial-up is my buddy! So again, with all the money I've saved..."WE DESERVE IT!" :)

One week of outstanding service and relaxation! And the memories will last much longer than any money I might have saved staying at another resort.

Actually, having stayed at both Riverside and Poly, I would be thinking "thank god, it's not the Poly." We've enjoyed Riverside several times, but found that the Poly just didn't "wow" us.

Animal Kingdom Lodge did "WOW" us, though. We've stayed there twice this year, and that's with us being DVC members. This just goes to prove why Disney has so many resorts - so many different tastes.

Why, Yes, yes I am a deluxe snob. It is a sub-symtom of RAD (Resort anxiety disorder) . Every time I start to book our trip, we start out in a Mod, and I inevitably end up upgrading to a deluxe. We have only stayed deluxe with an AP discount, so we really get a wonderful deal. It's a sickness I know, but what is a gal to do? ;)

kwdietrich1...

Oh My God! You have finally identified the exact syndrome I am suffering from! Resort Anxiety Disorder.

Too funny!:D

we started out at the poly, so it was hard to downgrade.

as you can see by my little resume we did pop and caribbean beach.

no offense to CB but I don't thin I can ever do it again.

Pop was fun, but it was a last minute thing and we didn't have any other choice, to be honest I wouldnt mind doing it again, but it would be a last resort (i just chuckled at that)

as for moderates, i still watn to do French Quarter, infact im dying to do it, it looks so beautiful...but other than that (and maybe a trip to Coronado springs) im a deluxe kind of guy.

i've stayed at the contemporary when i was much younger but we stayed in the wings, next year we're doing the tower facing mk.

and after the 'special' day (in a few years) i hope to visit the GF with the lady -swooooooon-

Yes! Once I stayed at the Epcot resorts, I have trouble going back. We tried a budget vacation last year and while it was great, it was off-site and just not the same. We are thrilled with out upcoming trip and contemplating a DVC purchase to go every-other-year for a while...

YES!

That is one of the reasons we bought into DVC. We get the deluxe resorts without the deluxe price. ;)

Yes we love CR and don't really like staying anywhere else. However, for our December trip, we extended our trip by using Kellogg Kash vouchers for free nights at the all-stars. So we're staying at AsMo for 4 nights before going to CR tower for 9 nights. DH and I are kind of dreading the AsMo stay, but DS is very excited about staying at the "Buzz Hotel." It can't be that bad, can it?!

I am completely with you!

We stayed at ASMovies first -- hated it! Then stayd at CBR three times -- loved it! Last year, we stayed at the Poly LVC and now we can't imagine staying anywhere else. I even mentioned to my DH that the next time we stay in a moderate we should try POR. His reply, "Why would we stay in a moderate?"

P.S. My kids assume that all longhouses at the Poly have free food!

As you can see...each trip to Disney I have moved my up in resorts. I really didn't think it would matter to me but when we were planning the surprise trip for xmas I was going over the approx price and amenities with my DH (has never been) I sort of read off the Value/Mods real quickly and then stressed the Deluxe. So he chose the GF!!

We'll probably do a budget family trip this summer and it will probably have to be a Value this time. I'm hoping for some good rates to justify an upgrade!

LOL! I once had that problem....then I discovered concierge!
ACK!!!! And it ALL started with these AP discounts, too!

Nope!....no problem here!

I am so there! It's so bad, on our last trip we were supposed to stay at AsMu for 3 nights before we went to the Contemporary, and we checked out in under 2 hours! I just can't go back...

our vacation at the WL in 10/01 turned us into DVCers
I first had Caribbean Beach booked at rack rate but we ended up at WL w/discount for less than CB would have cost us

I have Aug 18-21 booked at PO/Riverside for 3nights (to save points) before our 6night stay at VWL Aug 21-27. Hoping to get a discount for WL for Aug 18-21
