I received this email a short while ago. Did anyone else get it? I haven't purchased from this site in a couple of years but my personal information is still the same....ie: name, address, credit card number.

Subject : To all of our customers: our website has been hacked [BA]

Hello this is just a heads up to all of 'What Would Walt Do' customers. We have owned your all of your information and may or may not be stealing your identities. Thank you.

OWNED BY HAMMER @ BARARCADE.COM

The english is poorly written but I'm still worried. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

I would contact the site directly, (don't use a link in the email if there was one) and let them know you received this email and ask if it is from them and if there has been a breach in their security.

Make sure any credit info you gave them is okay and not being used by checking your card. I would make sure I got a hold of the site owners and see if the email is true.

I actually received two of these notices and both went to my Junk Mail box. When I checked this morning, I had received two more messages, supposedly from the WWWD web site, assuring me that my info had not been hacked. I don't know if the second two are as phony as the first two. I watch my credit card statement pretty closely so I'm not worried, just wanted to give you all a heads' up. Thanks.........

I got two of each kind of notice, also. That's not fun, but I do keep a very close watch on all my cc information so that's all I can do right now, I guess.

I received a notification telling me that someone had been sending out notices about the user information being lost and to ignore it.

They seem to be on top of a problem of someone trying to get information from its customers. They are obviously trying to let their customers know not to reply to the email asking for their information.

The email I got was in proper English and stated that they had emails from customers asking if they had sent out an email to say that their database had been hacked (not the exact words) and was lost. They were saying to ignore the email as their server was fine and they did not send out the email. Someone was trying to spoof their customers.

I went to see if I had kept the email to copy it, but I had deleted it. Since it stated they had not sent out the original email - which I did not get - I didn't pay any attention to it. I went to the web page to see if they had any information and I get an error.

I got one as well. Sent it to WWWD folks and will let them take care of it from there.

However, just a note on credit cards: My bank (the issuer) sent me a letter advising me that my CC number had been "compromised". That means that some CC ring had my credit card number on the list. I asked them to cancel the old number and send me a new card and PIN number. No problem on the CC bill, but what a scare!

In March they posted on the website about a take over.

Fending Off Take Over

March 4, 2004 — While the attack against WWWD hasn't been nearly as dramatic as yesterday's Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, it has certainly been troubling. The recent virus gang wars have made any internet's business a nightmare.

While all of our computers are clean, protected by both firewalls and state-of-the-art virus protection and our host tells us that our security has not been breached, virus-carrying e-mails from "administration" at whatwouldwaltdo.com and the like have begun circulating.

The only addresses that WWWD uses are "CityHall","Refunds" and two addresses containg our family name, Keaney. Any other variation is counterfeit or "spoofed." All of the e-mails boxes scattered throughout our website have received infected e-mail. This means that software is being used to crawl through websites looking for e-mail links.

We are currently receiving over 5,000 e-mails a day (some 40,000 last week, alone) through either spam or computers infected with the current wave of viruses. Legitimate inquiries and complaints from guests are getting buried. This avalanche is no respecter of persons. We have found e-mails from Deb Wills even Roy Disney buried in this mess.

We are reconfiguring our filters to try to cope. We ask your cooperation in getting legitimate e-mail through the enhanced protection:

They have posted since that date but nothing else about hackers.
I found this by clicking on Google's cached copy of the web page

I checked out their web page and this was posted on the main page:

Hackers Attack
Although we have employed the best security measures at our disposal, following an initial clean bill of health, we are sad to announce that our website was attacked by a team of hackers on August 5, 2004. We did not learn of the attack or the level of damage until August 30, 2004. The incident was promptly reported to the FBI's Cyber Crimes Division.

This means that any credit card used between August 5 and August 29, 2004 may have been passed to the hackers because of secret software installed by the hackers.

The good news is that we do not keep records of credit card numbers, so anyone ordering prior to August 5, 2004 should be safe from credit card charges. However, all Guests' names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses may have been copied by the hackers.

We have provided information and will continue to cooperate with the FBI in the investigation of this matter. We are very sorry for the worry that this presents to you.

The hackers had so fouled and contaminated the website that it will be weeks to rebuild the website. We appreciate your patience.

We were talking about something like this at work the other day and how people who create viruses and those that hack, could use that ability toward different means. Obviously they are intelligent, but malicious people. To use the intelligence God gave you to destroy and undermine peoples trust.

It really makes you wonder about some people.
