I drove by a resturant around McIntosh, FL (in north central FL) that was advertising goat meat on the menu. I didn't stop by because it looked closed, but has anyone tried this delicacy? How does it taste?

I would guess it taste like chicken

Nope. It smells gamey. My SIL eats gyros and she says it's an aquired taste. I don't even like cheese made with goats milk.

No-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o...I never ha-a-a-a-a-ve.......

Have eaten moose though. Can't say that I was impressed with moosemeat. :p

I had a friend that was from Nigeria...

She made this fabulous Goat Stew that smelled fantastic, and tasted wonderful!

Goat is a tougher meat than say chicken, but I don't remember it being gamey like pheasent, or even kangaroo... yes I've had kangaroo!

(What can I say? I have eaten all types of international cuisine!)

I thought gyros were made with Lamb not goat! (At least all the gyros I have had were lamb based)

I don't think you can cook goat like grilled, but since it is tougher it needs to be slow cooked or made into a stew/soup. .. so it can simmer for a long time.. to make it less tough.

You're adventourous Barry! Take a chance!

Ewwww...sounds kinda gross but then again I've never eaten it. I know I don't like goat cheese so I think I wouldn't like goat meat.

Sure- that's cabrito!

Pretty common in Tex-Mex country.

Come visit Texas, Barry. I'll introduce you to authentic Tex-Mex!

Yup, curry goat and jerk goat. I love carribean food and goat is pretty common there. Now, lamb I just can't get into unless it's grilled, otherwise it tastes soapy to me.

I've eaten Escargot at Epcot's Chef de France, so it's time for goat meat!

I didn't think much of escargot, BTW. I would have rather eaten a salad as an appetizer, IMHO.

I actually like escargot! Yes, if you have eaten that, you can eat goat.

You can do it. Although I'm not sure if the goat that I ate was stewed because of the cut (maybe some cuts are less tough than others).

We usually slow cook it on the grill/smoker and serve it "pulled" or shredded with bbq sauce. Makes a great sandwich.

<font color=navy> We went to a fiesta in Spain, and my cousins cooked a goat - I think they barbecued it, not sure. It was delicious, though. It wasn't tough. That could be because it was a kid.

Some of my favorite cheese is a mixture of cow, goat, and sheeps cheese -- yum yum. :sunny:

Can't say I have, but my kids used to drink Goats milk:D

Ewwww. Very gamey. I have a funny/sad goat story. When we were kids we used to have goats for milk. In order to get the milk you have to breed the goat and then, of course you have baby goats, which are very cute. You can't keep these babies every year so you have to sell them. But nobody really wants male goats. If they aren't neutered their smell affects the milk, and if they are what would you do with them. We always listed our babies for sale in the paper and somebody would buy them. Once my mother saw the purchaser put the baby boy into their trunk and she was very upset. Then she found out what people were doing with the male babies. Certain nationalities (greek and mexican I believe) always have goat for Easter dinner. Then we really hated selling these male babies.

My bf loves the goat curry at our local Indian restaurant. He said its almost like pot roast.

Ewww. One of my best friends is from Jamaica and she eats it all the time. I tried it once, one mouth full and it was yucky! ::yes::

She also uses fish heads (red snapper) to make a fish broth for her babies. I'm not going to try that though. :crazy2:

But she makes the best coconut rice and beans and red snapper with vinegar and onions! Yummy!!!

another vote for gamey. i didn't like it and i like lots of strange foods.
