Has anyone driven from Pittsburgh, PA?

We live about 45 miles southeast from Pittsburgh, but we chose to fly for our trip last September. I went onto www.mapquest.com to research the mileage, driving time, etc. From where we live at (Connellsville), the driving time was about 17 hours each way, with the mileage being around 940 miles. If you are closer to Pittsburgh than we are, add around 30 to 60 minutes to the time since you have a further way to go south. So, if you leave around 4 or 5 am you could technically be there by 10 pm, not counting time for gassing up, eating, potty breaks, etc. which will of course vary by family and the age of any children. So, I figure best case scenario, with minimal stops, and eating at least 1 meal in the car, you could be there by about midnight. Personally, that sounded pretty awful to me, which was why we decided to fly. I have a 12 year old son, but I think that anyone who would make that trip with little ones is pretty darned brave.

We live kinda near Pittsburg;) From Akron, OH it takes about 20 hours to drive to WDW. I have not driven it in 6 or 7 years but we typically drove straight thru to get there and stopped overnight on the way home. For years we stopped in Charlotte NC because my uncle lived there but after he moved back to Ohio we stopped over after about 12 - 16 hours of driving. It really depended on how tired all the drivers were and where there was a cheap hotel.

I really dislike driving long distances after many many many trips to Florida (we have family there) stuck in a car for what seemed like forever and we have flown the past several years.

Like sherry7 did I suggest going to MapQuest and see what they tell you. It will give you a good idea of mileage and times.

mickeylovers,

I am driving to WDW in June (the DW and DD won't fly, DS and I would).

My intention was: To drive straight through (overnight). I had hoped that the DW, DD, and DS would sleep enroute. I'd be tired when we got there, but figured that once I saw the "promised land" (please no flaming on religious references...) I'd be grinning from ear-to-ear and ready to go.

However, DW said NO.

If you go to: http://www.roomsavers.com/roomsaver, select the state that you want to stop in and enter the route that you are taking (95 in my case) they'll show you the hotels along the interstate, at what exit number and the room rate is. They also provide discount coupons...
