Has anyone done a "split stay" not at Disney?

I'm booking a getaway for the family and I found that if I book 2 nights and 1 night instead of all 3 nights, I save $100. I'm not sure why? Same room, same booking rate (using Hilton Honors rate and not pre-paying).

Will this cause any issues? Like Disney, if I mention the other reservation, will they try to keep me in the same room? Has anyone done this for a non-Disney hotel?

This is an Embassy Suites BTW.

TIA!

Often when I book through SPG and a rate increases mid-trip or a room isn't available, I will book the available nights (refundable rate) and then call in to see if they could extend the reservation at the same rate. I would say this works more often than not, but isn't 100% foolproof.

As for a split stay, they may keep you in the same room, but there isn't a guarantee, so if you do use 2 booking, be prepared to move if you must.

Thanks for your feedback. Since it's Hilton and I think I can choose a room on the app the day before check-in, maybe I'll be able to do that (if they can't merge the reservations).

I've done this other places than Orlando. It was at a Holiday Inn in New Jersey. I explained the situation checking in and they said I could stay in the same room, and when the second stay started to come down, so they would make sure keys would work. I did this, but alas after check out time despite doing everything they said, we were locked out of our room. The easy fix was to go down to the desk again where they apologized and rekeyed our keys.

Overall although not hassle free I thought the savings was worth the inconvenience. This was almost identical to your situation -- two nights booked -- needed a third -- doing a one night reservation instead of changing to three nights saved us about $100.

I will just assume the worst (inconvenience, which isn't awful) and hope for the best!

Thanks for your info!

We have done this in Vegas many times. You can call ahead of time and ask them to link the reservations. I can't gaurentee Hilton works the same way but it is worth a shot.

I did this at a La Quinta recently when I had one free night from points, and we had to go to the desk to check in for the second reservation and get our key cards reactivated, but we were able to stay in the same room.
