Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

Quick question: If you have more than one MB, can you use all of them during one trip (switch them out and wear different ones on different days) does everything stay connected--room, tix, MM, etc.?

Yes you can wear a different band every day of your trip and it will work as long as it is linked to your MDE account.

Yes, but when you check into the hotel, you have to have the front desk " wake them up". I had three different magic bands in the last trip. Got to the room, found out only the one i tapped at check in would open the door. After walking all the way back ( it seems much farther after a day of work, then flying in at night), they were able to enable all of them, but each one has to be tapped to the sensor.

We did not have that experience on our last trip...they all worked without any intervention.

I just decorated all of our bands! I cant wait to see how they hold up... i have to use a combo of nail polish and paint because I didn't have all the colors i needed... Still need to seal them with clear but i have a few days left to do that before we need to pack :P

Are you certain you had them all activated through your MDE account?
We had five bands each in September, and none of them had to be "woken up" to make them work.

If they are not activated through your MDE account, they will have to be activated at the desk.

When we left home, I made sure ours were all active.
Once we checked in, we went to the room and stood at the door testing each one.
They all worked fine .

About the base coat questions. I tried 2 brands, 1 made the band crack the other is perfect.

The first I tried was Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat because it was all I could find and didn't think it would have much affect. Wrong, it made it crack when bent. I put 2 coats of the OPI base coat on (described below) and it seemed to have fixed my mistake.

The second I tried was OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, it has a slight pink color to the liquid but it is perfect! I can bend the bands with no problems even after 4 coats of it (really wanted to make sure they were protected).

The OPI was roughly $9 and I bought it at CVS.

My trip is fast approaching so I can give a report on how they both fair after 12 days of abuse. :)

I'm starting to be filled with doubt about my creative ability to paint the bands in any way that anyone would want to wear them in public. Thinking of going with Justin (from Etsy).

He has said I can have the bands shipped directly to him and he will hand deliver them to our hotel.

His prices seem reasonable. He seems trustworthy.

And yet....

My concern is that the bands not be used. So...what are the steps I need to protect us?

Has anyone else had Justin paint their bands? (I thought there were a few of you...). How have you handled it?

Thanks!

Is the base coat really necessary? Planning to use a white Sharpie paint pen for the Mickey head edging and outer lines, then black and white for polka dots.

Anyone use e6000 or gem-tac to adhere gems? I was thinking possibly black gems and white pearls.

Also, how are the duct tape ones holding up? Thinking this may be a good option if I screw the band up, lol.

Does this work on bands with the outer Grey removed or do you need that Ridge to hide your tape edging?

I've had this need to be done sometimes too. It's hit and miss on how the MBs will work - or not.

I want to use clear glitter nail polish and temporary tattoos. Which should go down first? Should I paint the nail polish on first, then apply the tattoo over it (and then clear base coat over everything)? Or should I do base coat, then tattoo, then glitter polish as the top coat (with or without more base coat after that)? Thanks!!

I don't think it would make too much of a difference but just to give a smoother surface for the tattoos I'd do base coat, temp tattoos, glitter coat and then top it all with another coat or two of base coat.

I used the e6000 to adhere gems and it kept everything on just fine although I didn't swim. The first band I used too much though and it squished out under the gems. Oops!

I've used the duct tape on 2 of mine and it has held up fine.....with that being said....I'm not a swimmer and have not gotten them wet at all.

I used e6000 to apply small swarvoski crystals to mine and it worked fine. Or at least they feel very strongly attached (I haven't worn my band yet...trip is in a couple weeks). However, as a previous poster said, be careful not to use too much of the glue. I had to spend a while carefully scraping and pulling excess glue away. :)

Stitch Inspired, DS... I loved his idea to cut out chunks of the band like Stitch's ears.
Magician Mickey Inspired, Mine... I happen to be a hobbyist magician, so I'm a big fan of Magician Mickey in Town Square

We've had SOOOO much fun with this thread.
Round 1 with our older bands. We learned a lot through our "practice bands."
First, on the Minnie themed one, we used a nail polish top coat that didn't hold up well. Lots of cracks.

We bought Americana DuraClear gloss varnish from Michaels that njpyro recommended. We've put one coat of the gloss varnish on Stitch band and it's holding up GREAT.

We also learned that acrylic glossy model paint does not hold up as a basic premium acrylic. Not to mention the glossy stuff showed brush marks worse than the basic acrylic. Although this could be my poor painting skills.

Still thinking about adding to the Magician Mickey band. Maybe some glitter coming from the magic wand over the top hat or some gold filigree(my DW just taught me this word).
Also feel like the Stitch band could use a little something extra. Ideas are welcomed.

I plan on decorating our magic bands and am going to start with a nail polish base coat, then apply temporary tattoos and then apply a varnish to seal and provide a glossy look.
What type of brush do you use to apply the base coat?
What type of brush do you use to apply the varnish ?

Am really looking or a smooth look, so was considering using a spray varnish on top. For anyone who has used the spray varnish, how did the magic bands hold up?
