Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

Did I mess up big time?? I just slapped plain acrylic paint down straight on my MB without any kind of base coat. Can anyone tell me if they've done this and how your bands held up if that's the case. I do plan on sealing the paint when I'm done.

That's exactly what i did. They have held up great. I have a photo in the last page or so.

I use the acrylic paint without using a base coat and it works great. My band held up well, too, on our last trip. I put top coat and glitter nail polish on top of the paint. :)

That's what I did last time, and ALL of my acrylic paint flaked off. Quickly. :(

I was so excited to have a creative project and thought I'd do the bands by hand too, but time is a luxury sometimes :rolleyes1 Anyway, I searched to see what I could find and discovered this:

http://www.magicyourband.com/

I'm actually glad I found it because the idea of being able to change the look of the band and not have a permanent decoration on it appeals to me, as we have a few of them now.

It was so easy to do. I did make one of them on Photoscape and add it as a single image to the site as there is a limit on how many images you can add per band. Anyone else tried these?

Here's what I have done:

I can't wait for them to arrive :cool1::yay:

I had my daughter put hers on. This is the pink with the gray removed. I used a fine grit sandpaper to remove the barbs from the edges after the gray was removed.

Thank you soooo much! This was very helpful.

Here are pictures of my finished band. I decided to just go with simple bling because I don't have an artistic bone in my body. :) But I'm really pleased with how it turned out and it really sparkles in the sun! Now I just hope all the crystals will stay on, but I'll be taking my glue and extras just in case!

Has anyone tried the nail polish? How long did it last before it started chipping off the band?

I used Nail polish & stickers. The polish didn't chip off, it cracked in a few places by the end of a 8 day trip. My mb held up well with the stickers but my DD's didn't. But she went swimming with it. I didn't get in the water.

Ok, so I'm so impatiently waiting for our MBs to come in (not til Nov.). I decided to try make my old iphone case into a Minnie case. I'm not sure how long it will last & certainly not pretty like the MBs I've seen on this forum, but I thought I'd share it with ya'll.

I love the work I've seen here ... I'm not doing anything like what you guys are doing, but I love looking at all the amazing creativity!

I have a gray band, and I'm trying to turn it light purple (think lilac).

Here's my question:
I've read through most of this thread, and it seems like most people recommend doing a base coat before applying any nail polish.
I'm not a big nail polish person (other than the occasional manicure), so I don't own a base coat. I went out and bought nail polish for the purpose of decorating my MB (Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme, if that makes a difference), but could not find a base coat. Can I do nail polish without a base coat? Will it chip or come off? Should I be looking elsewhere for a base coat or can I get away with just using a few coats of nail polish without the base coat?

Any guidance would be much appreciated. My trip is not so far away, so I would like to get this done this week if at all possible - so I need to know if I should be running around looking for base coat!

[Meanwhile, it occurred to me after I got home from my shopping trip that I should have just bought acrylic paint because I already have a matte medium (left over from an old art class) to mix it with that would make it look not so shiny. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.]

I haven't done my yet, but I'm surprised you can't find base coat. I'd think anywhere that has nail polish should carry base coat - did you ask for it? It looks just like clear nail polish but says base coat.

Of course, it may depend on where you live.

I was pretty surprised by it too ... they had a lot of top coat, but no base coat.
I'll try a few other stores and hopefully I can find it, but I'm hoping it will still work even if I can't find base coat.

I had a really hard time finding base coat too. I tried everything from Walmart and Target to the Dollar Store. I ended up finding it at Ulta. The cost wasn't too bad. It was $6 for the bottle and I coated our bands so much that I used almost an entire bottle on 6 bands.

I could only find base coat at walgreen, it took forever to find it.... it was also 9$ a bottle.... so i skipped it :/

Wow. Who knew? I got two bottles from a friend who had some extra, so I didn't actually look for it. We'll have 7 bands (8 if you count the practice band I got from ebay) - 2 each for me and my DH and and 1 each for DS and 2 nieces. Hopefully that will be enough.

BTW, I just checked Amazon and they have it in a range of prices with some Prime eligible.

I used acrylic paint pens for the blue, black, and (a way too thick one for the) gold. The rest of the colors were old dried up paints that I added water too, and miraculously brought back to life! My eyes are not what they used to be, so I wore reading glasses on top of my prescription bifocals - and I still missed some holidays on Mickey's face! I wouldn't have mixed the themes by painting Mickey's face on my son's band, but he wanted both Mickeys painted as well as the Genie. If I had a lighted magnifier, they would have come out better, but with my bad eyes, this was the best I could do. Lol.

Oh well, it won't let me post the photos because I don't have enough posts.

I haven't posted on DIS in ages, but this is my MagicBand from our trip for Harambe Nights in August.

I'm a HUGE Lion King fan, and I had to have a TLK band for the event. I got a lot of compliments on it, and even had two girls chase me down at Epcot to tell me she loved it and saw it on Instagram. She dragged me off to show it to her mom too lol.

I started with a red band, and then I did two coats of Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat, let it dry overnight, and then painted the design with acrylic paint. I let that dry overnight and then did the gold glitter polish and let it dry overnight. The next evening, I added two coats of the same base/top coat, letting it dry completely between the coats. There was no cracking in the paint at all during the trip, and it still looks good two months later. :)

Absolutely wonderful. This is so different. You did an excellent job!

I want to use clear glitter nail polish and temporary tattoos. Which should go down first? Should I paint the nail polish on first, then apply the tattoo over it (and then clear base coat over everything)? Or should I do base coat, then tattoo, then glitter polish as the top coat (with or without more base coat after that)?

Thanks!!

Do you have an Avon rep in your area? I order my base coats from Avon. Not for magic bands, but my daughter does her nails several times a week. She has an obsession with nail art and it isn't expensive.
