Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

There are tons of options for customizing your MagicBands, from paint and Sharpie to the custom vinyl decals we do. If you're doing something yourself you should steer clear of putting anything metal or foil-backed on or around the Mickey head in the middle of the band as this can cause them to stop working. Some folks have had success with Sharpie but be aware that Sharpie will wear off and rubs on on contact with sunscreen.

Love this thread!

I see some very well done outlines of the center Mickey. What's the best method to get a clean line? Did you just use a thin brush with multiple layers?

Some people said that they brushed nail polish or paint into the groove, then cleaned off the excess. I am not sure if everyone waits until it dries or not, but I do remember one person who used nail polish mentioning waiting for it to dry, then cleaning the edges with nail polish remover on a q tip. If you were using acrylic, you could do the same thing with rubbing alcohol or water, but you may want to make sure that you don't have it too wet or some of the paint in the groove might soften and lift.

My daughter really wants a Marie from the Aristocats band. I was thinking of the Magic your Band site. Are there any copyright rules they need to follow or can you put pretty much anything on it? How do they hold up? Do they stay stuck on the band well? Thanks!

Here's ours...my mom gets all of the credit for painting them! I just found the designs online. We just need to seal them with a base coat and then they will be all set for our trip in 13 days! Her next project is a pair of painted canvas tennis shoes for me!

UPDATE: Okay, so these aren't Magic Bands, but I mentioned my mom's next project was decorating shoes for me and she finished and they are just too cute not to share!!!

These look great. How did you mom make the perfect white circles on the Minnie band? I would like to do that on mine. Thanks

I've done similar dots by dipping the end of a small artists paintbrush into the nail polish and dotting with that.

I have pics of my Tink inspired band - need the best way to upload the pics - I get the image size is too large.

If anyone else needed an easy way to post pics - I used the app Pic Collage and posted from my phone.

I use tinypic.com to upload, and usually choose the website/email size. It's big enough to see, but if the details get lost I might go for the message board size, which is still a reasonable size to post.

Before reading this thread I decorated my magic band using sharpies.:sad2: What do you all suggest for coating it so it will hold-up at the park? modpodge? clear nail polish?

I did read the first 20 so pages of this tread, but I got overwelmed and decided to just ask. Sorry if this has already been answered.

I hope it can be saved. I'm already a little attached to it.

:thanks: I found similar designs online and she adapted them a bit. The Minnie one is mine, Olaf belongs to my mom, and Goofy is my dad's!

As someone else mentioned, she used the end of a paintbrush for the dots on the band. The little dots in the bow were done with a toothpick. The dots on Minnie's bow/skirt on my shoes were done with a toothpick that she snipped the very end off of with scissors. You just have to make sure you have enough, but not too much paint on whatever you use and set it down and pick it straight up otherwise it will drag and won't come out a circle. Good luck!!!

Ours were done with acrylic paint, but everything I have seen recommends clear nail polish, but make sure you get a BASE coat, not a top coat. Both might crack a little, but advice from others seems to show that base coat is more flexible. I hope it works out!

Love this thread! Can't wait for our MBs to come in so I can decorate them...if only I could convince the boys to let me decorate theirs as well...:rolleyes1

Thanks! Good to know about the base coat.

How did the acrylic paint hold up? Acrylic paints seams to hold up pretty well from what I read. Maybe I will try an acylic sealer.

We don't leave until the 19th, so they haven't faced the parks yet, but it seems like they are sealed good. I know when my mom was painting she could easily wipe it off it was still wet or scrap it off with her fingernail if she made a mistake. As you mentioned, it seems like the acrylic stays on well. I have also seen posts about using an acrylic sealer. The $0.98 base coat was just a lot easier to find and can be used for other purposes. I have also see people say that they used Modge Podge, which I have used for other projects, but I'm not sure that would work well on them. Here's hoping that they stay looking pretty during our trip!!!

There's been lots of talk about sharpies smearing when applying a top coat. I think I'd buy a spray on sealer - what some have been using to seal the acrylic paints - so that you aren't potentially smearing it with the brush.
