Has anyone booked a DVC stay with DP for only part of the stay?

I just booked OKW for 5 nights in Jan. I asked MS about adding the DP for part of the trip. She said that you can only do that if you split your stay. I thought I read on here that people were able to add DP for part of your stay without having to check/in and out??

Well that didnt work for me. We had to do it for our entire trip. And I leave on Tuesday and the rest of my family leaves on Friday and they still have to pay for my dining plan for those 3 days Im gone!

We booked the DP for two separate days of our next trip and had to split our stay for each of them. Even though the stays are separated, they are linked together and are part of the same reservation so there won't be any additional check ins/outs required.

Having DDP for part of your trip is a new thing for DVC....I am not sure when it started, or takes effect but you may have booked, or started your trip before then. Or you may be able to call back and change it.

The change went into effect on 10/14.

I just booked it today. :confused3

Do the changes start with 2011 trips? I was really excited to read about the ability to add DDP to only to part of a stay but I didn't read the fine print!---Kathy

Any trip can be changed, even those for the remainder of 2010.

Okay say I wait until Jan. 15th to add dining and my trip was booked today, can they add it to say 2 or 3 of our days without them LOSING my 5 night already booked trip? Do they have to release your days and then rebook them again? I would not want to take that chance since our trip starts on the 21st? I realize that people are saying you can have x amt. days on the plan and some not on the plan but is it a BIG TO DO to book it that way without losing one of your days in the rebooking?

See I am confused because I booked my Jan. 2011 trip today and the MS cast member told me that you can't do that for booked trip unless you split your stay at two different resorts or book two ressies at same resort and check in and check out. :confused3

Sounds like the MS cast member you talked to was a little mixed up. (Which with this being new is understandable) Technically it's two different ressies but what others have reported is that they are linked in a way where you shouldn't have to check out. I would call back and see if you could get someone at MS who might have a clearer picture of how it works.

I think I will. I would hate to lose the ressie. We are not sure if we are going to do the DP or not but if we did..it would probably be for 3 days.

I actually added the dining plan at the beginning of this month and then I had to drop a day off of our reservation so I called today and changed the reservation and then was told since the system upgrade.. you now have to pay for your dining plan in full before your trip. You can not pay when you check in anymore.

So technically the DDP was not officially on our reservation until today when we paid in full.

I was able to change my reservation to have the regular dining plan for the first 5 nights and then a "new" resevation with the deluxe plan for my last night for our upcoming Thanksgiving trip. I was warned that I would have to get new room keys and might have to change rooms-which hopefully, won't happen-or at least I'm not telling my DH that this might happen.:rotfl: In three weeks-I'll know how well this will work :cool1:

I just got back from a split DDP stay (first 2 then off the last 4) The front desk did a great job fighting the computer system to keep me in the same room (I think MS confused the system passing the DDP stay in my name and the non portion under DW) I did have to get new room keys for the non portion (next year they might be able to do it on one key?)
And of course for the split party sizes everyone's credits must be used during each part of the trip...

I am thinking this Jan. trip might not be the TRIP to try this new thing on. Maybe I will just ride it out and see how others report over the next 6 to 9 months and try it again on a future trip.

I was reading this post with interest - I would LOVE to get the dining plan for just a portion of my stay, but, IS there a "new" thing? The people who are familiar with this can you tell us where you read about it? Is there some verbiage out there that says you don't need to do a split stay or is it still the same old policy of only being able to do it with split stays? Thanks!
