I have never flew before and we will be flying out of Asheville NC in October. The only direct flight is on a 50 passenger jet.
I am really terrified of the thought of flying but being on something that small really scares me :earseek: .
So tell me that they are not that bad.
We will be to MCO in 1hr 40 min instead of a 9 hr drive and the way gas prices are rising we will not be spending alot more because my Dsis is taking us to the airport. It is like we would have 2 extra days at Disney, the flights lands and 7:45am and will depart at 7:10pm.

So please make me feel better about flying for the first time in a tiny little jet :confused3

They're not that bad.

It's probably a Canadair Regional Jet. Definitely not roomy, but all the ones I've been on have been comfortable and fairly quiet.

I once flew on a regional jet (an Embraer) from PIT to Chicago O'Hare. Very nice flight. At the time, the jet was brand new; the pilot told me it had only 10 hours on it.

I like the regional jets. They cruise at a slightly faster speed (c. 540 mph). The seats are slightly smaller, but not as small as the prop-driven commuters.

It reminded me of a flying bus. Some have described planes as busses in the sky (Airbus...), and the regional jets are as close as it gets. Most tour busses hold 45 people, so these are fairly similar in size.

We are flying from PIT to ATL on a 70 passenger regional jet in June. We then board a 767 to MCO. Talk about a big change...

They are not bad. I flew on a 34 seat prop last month! Now that made me nervous! I have to do it again next month (PIT/ABE). The thought of a 300 mile drive alone makes me more nervous than flying on a tiny plane.

I used to fly from San Antonio to Butte, MT quite a bit - the flight from Salt Lake City to Butte was on one of those little jets... I actually liked it better than the big plane. I thought it actually had more leg room than the big one that flew between San Antonio and Salt Lake.. :confused3

It was always a pleasant flight! :flower:

I was just on an Embraer in June...I felt like a rock star boarding on the field... :smooth: It was absolutely smooth and cool! Bring a book, a cd player, I promise it will be fine!

I have flown on them dozen of times. Not a problem at all. Just watch the size of your carryon. Some are too big to go on the plane with you, but they will store it in a special place under the plane, and it will be at "plane side" for you to pick up when you get off. Have a wonderful first flight. It's really quite enjoyable. :goodvibes

You guys are making me feel alot better about flying for the first time :grouphug: .
This is a Embraer ERJ-145,dont know if that makes any sense or not.

Keep the posts coming,I am going to need all the help I can get.

Would you take anything for nerves or bonine?

I;ve flown the exact route you've flown on an embraer and love it. It is a very smooth ride. I found the side with the 2 seats to have more leg room than the one seat side. Very easy to board, and the luggage will beat you to the carosel. I prefer these to the larger 737s, etc. And even though your flying time lists 1hour and 40 minute-that is actually gate to gate time; you;re really only in the air about 1 hr 20 minutes

So you have left out of Asheville? It is only 1hr 20min?That makes it even better,I think I may like this :teeth:

I've flown these several times. As stated earlier, it does sometimes feel like you're on a motorcoach. One bonus for me is that most of these have just two seats on either side; I've flown on a few that had a row of two, and then single seats across the aisle. I LOVE the single seats! You get the window AND the aisle! Even though the plane is smaller, you feel less smooshed :crowded: Watch the head room though!

The first time I flew on one of the ERJs I was nervous about it but since then I've always been happy when I see that we will be on that type of aircraft. They are generally very new and nice inside, and the ride is smooth and quiet. They do make kind of a different noise than larger aircraft--kind of a high-pitched buzzing--but it's not bothersome at all. Have fun!

I actually prefer the regional jets to the big boys. Fewer people on board means quicker boarding and quicker deplaning.

Nothing scary about it. :cool1:

One cool thing about the ERJ-145s (and the even smaller -135s and -140s) is that the left-side is the A seats are both a window and an asile seat!

Those regional jets are very comfortable flights. To me, a 50 passenger plane isn't small. Should seem some of the regional airlines here 10 passenger props, and that's flying over the ocean between islands. So, a 50 passenger jet is smooth and comfy by comparison. :)

I've flown on these several times and had no problem (especially since it is such a short flight). If you want feedback on ANY airline's fleet and specific tips for selecting good seats on an aircraft, go to www.seatguru.com. Oh, keep in mind that sometimes these smaller jets usually do not have as much overhead storage as larger ones so your carry ons might be more limited.

The regional jets are nice. I just frew from Cle to Stl on one and that is about 90 min flight. Not alot of room, but nice jets. Site towards the tail section.

I'm so glad to hear all the good reports about the regional jets. My son will be flying back and forth from college on a regional jet (out of Pittsburgh to Detroit) and I was a little concerned about it. You have made me feel better about flying on these jets.

Thanks!

I've flown several times on the Canadair regional jets and they really aren't that small and very comfortable. They're not at all like the old props. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how nice they are.

Also, as ccw says go to seatguru and you should be able to see the seat configuration of that size plane. Also, if it's Delta you're flying they used to have the seat configuration of all their flights by clicking on the flight number I believe. It's been awhile since I've been on their website so I'm not sure on that, but, I think there may be a question mark or something near the flight # to click for more information. I think USAirways has something similar also to see the configuration of the equipment.
