Has anybody heard...

In some areas (like where I live) the schools are used as polling places so the children don't have school. So she may have taken her children in with her so they could see how you vote.

The video specifically states that she took a child out of school for an Obama rally last Wednesday. Many schools are closed nationwide today, including my child's school.

You see this type of stuff every day? Wow!

yes i do...if you must know I drive older people and people who cant see well enough to drive to the health dept and store if they need to go a few days a week and the welfare office is at the health dept and while lots of people really need the help you should see all the people that come in driving brand new cars (yeh I am sure they ALL borrow a friends) and talking on blackberrys ect....and yes bragging about what they can get from the state! I have heard some call it a PAYCHECK....yes a paycheck! :scared1: young girls and older women! One girl telling another girl (a total stranger) that she didnt want her man to marry her because she wouldnt get her paycheck!

It is sick...I think if familys need help fine but this? NO WAY and we CAN judge that.

...The lady in front of me scamming food stamps does not really need to worry about paying mortagage anyway. Yes i said scamming, when you are holding a 500.00 handbag and getting welfare your scamming...

that was uncalled for-how do you know the price of her bag, did you see the receipt? what brand was it, a coach can be as little as $50 depending on size and whether or not she bought it at an outlet off season, maybe it was a christmas/birthday gift.

i work in the handbag world. maybe she does too, maybe she gets a fantastic discount like i do.

maybe she borrowed from a family member. i'm currently carrying a bag that was $700, i'm borrowing it from my mother who is in obama's higher tax bracket.

i can also spot a fake in less than a minute, a bad fake in the garment district can be as little as $15, a decent fake is about $50 and up. she may have been carrying a fake. do you know the ways to spot a fake?

although we all do it and sometimes can't help it, we should never judge strangers and their circumstances. you can't possible know someones life story based on a moment behind them in the grocery store.

as far as the original topic i thought the woman felt like the economy would change and that life would get a bit easier as far as gas prices and her mortgage were concerned. maybe she owned a business and the poor economy has affected it negatively, maybe she works in a store with bonuses that are based on sales. times are tough and people are cutting back. factories are laying of workers and many just don't know how the bills will get paid.

i'm hoping for a rebound in the economy and a prosperous US with obama as our next president

ETA: i saw your subsequent post about her perfect nails and blackberry and although the blackberry may not be the best choice for her and possible circumstances i would still not judge. she may have truly budgeted for that phone and her nails could be self done, or a barter she has with a manicurist. i have a friend who does hair and she says people offer a barter all the time. right now she is getting a break on her acupuncture...during tax time she bartered with an accountant.

hello??? Did you not read the whole thing? she was BRAGGING about scamming! oh and it was NOT a fake...I also can spot a fake, but hey her nails were fake does that count? lol ;)

i quoted exactly what i had read in regards to the woman in the grocery store, you said you know she was scamming because of the cost of the handbag she was carrying. you never mentioned she was bragging about scamming food stamps in the grocery store line. if that is the case i would have been disgusted as well and probably would have said something.

i am as liberal as it gets, i believe in helping people who need it and hate the few who take advantage because those few seem to always end up being the poster examples of why we shouldn't help those in tough times.

She didn't say she wouldn't have to pay her mortgage. She said she wouldn't have to WORRY about paying her mortgage. There is a big difference there. Maybe she thinks things will ease enough that it will be easier for her to make ends meet. People see what they want to see in these things.

This is exactly what she meant. It is unbelievable the way people try and twist around what she said.

Perhaps the fact that you did not mention her nails, blackberry or bragging until people challenged your assumptions based on her purse, caused people to be a bit skeptical. I'm not saying this is true of you, but I have noticed that people always seem to come up with a lot more supporting details once they are called on a story. This tends to put a bit of a negative spin on their tale.

I guess I am in the minority. I don't usually notice details about people that tell me anything about their economic status. I'm a glass half full type of person. I normally give everyone the benefit of the doubt. In fact, you pretty much have to throw it in my face before I will look down on someone. IMHO, the world would be a lot better place if people would just assume the best in others.

well I HAVE heard that many times over the past few times....standing in lines BUYING my food while the person in front of be brags about how much more she will be getting in her check each month after a (her words not mine) brother is POTUS! I guess she thinks obama is her brother lol no really it is crazy....I dont care what color he is, I vote republican if he wins oh well but people cant say there are not people out there who think they will be on the gravy train just because obama is in office...there are plenty BUT I really dont think it will make it better for them thats the funny thing...The lady in front of me scamming food stamps does not really need to worry about paying mortagage anyway.Yes i said scamming, when you are holding a 500.00 handbag and getting welfare your scamming...

ok read it again...yes I did mention about the bragging....you can see this right?

I guess I'm in my own little world (or reading the front covers of all the smut magazines at the checkout :teeth: ) because I never notice what anyone else is buying, or how they're paying. :confused3

:thumbsup2 Yep, thats me! I am too concerned with what is going on with me and my little buggy of groceries to worry about what someone else is buying or how they are dressed.

well when your in line behind 20 people at walmart when they have 2 lines out of 20 open you get a little bored...lol

Once again, where does she say that her gas and mortgage will be paid for by the government?

:confused3

This morning I heard a news reporter interviewing a woman who had just voted. The Lady was so excited (that she had just voted) that she was almost out of breath. The news reporter asked her why she was so excited and the woman said "I'm ready for change" and the reporter asked her what was going to change. The woman responded, "I won't have to pay my mortgage any more or pay for gas for my car"!!!!! :scared1:
I've also heard people say that they are going to be rich after the election. Do people really believe this? Has anybody else heard people say things like this?
Please no ugly responses. I'm just asking if anybody has also heard this and where do they get it from?

I think I saw her...........

ok read it again...yes I did mention about the bragging....you can see this right?

You just don't seem to get it. Again, you are assuming the worst, because she thinks she is getting some kind of financial increase because of a Presidential pick. That could have very well been a girlfriend of mine that just lost her job a few weeks ago at GM. She applied for EVERY state assistance program out there. Since she realized it was highly unlikely she could make the kind of money she did at GM she decided to go back to school full time in January and finish her degree. She is two semesters short. My point is that stranger feels optimistic about Obama helping the financial crisis we are in. As she bragged about her "check" (which I'm sorry I just don't believe a stranger would have with another stranger) what "check" are you assuming she is referring to. A welfare check, her unemployment check, a social security check, or her paycheck. You just don't know. I hope you know that a person can go to work EVERY DAY and still get food stamps.

I'm usually the first person to point out the stupid things people say () but I don't see how what she said was so bad. She didn't say she expected the government to pay for her mortgage and gas; she said if Obama was elected, she wouldn't have to worry about it. It took it as she has hope that the economy will stabilize and people won't have to worry about losing their homes or the extreme gas prices. But hey, twisting people's words isn't a new thing.

My wife works for our local school district in the office and does not get paid much but thats okay she does it to pay for our daughters expenses in college. A woman she works with who also doesn't make much money is married to a guy that works for the city. He doesn't make much either. They live above theri means and she constantly complains about money. They blame their problems on the government and more specifically George Bush. Now while I certainly agree that GWB has not done anywhere near a good job in office the reality is this individual families fortunes will not turn based on who sits in the oval office. She spews absolute hate for Bush while praising Obama as the second coming. Since it's a school and my DW leans Republican she keeps her mouth shut because it's a highly Democratic environment. She is friends with this lady so she has tried to point out on several occasions that maybe her financial problems are more related to her spending habits and her families earnings. The lady will have nothing to do with that. It's all because of GWB and when Obama wins all her financial problems will magically disappear. Problem is she will still be making the same amount of money as will her husband, and she will still spend above her means. In otherwords, nothing will change for her personal situation.

I guess that's why the outcome of the election doesn't "scare" me. Because while I may pay more taxes, or less taxes, or not be able to buy the new gun I want or buy all I want for less, or blah, blah, blah. My condition will realistically not change all that much in the grand scheme of things. I still have my family, my own version of my moral compass, my friends and my life.

Some people are so desperate for change that they can pin far to much hope on something like an election.

This confuses me even more. How does a postal worker know which customers are in the lower tax brackets? Do they show them their tax returns or W-2's before buying stamps? ;)

You can't possibly be serious....

lets take it slooowww she called her WELFARE check her paycheck! quote : why should I get a job when I can get a PAYCHECK FROM HERE....if your friends are like that lady then ....sorry....I guess you didnt GET IT and yes she was telling that to a stranger, another women there to apply for help...the other women asked if she worked at all and that is the response.I am sorry if you dont like it but yes some people do feel that way.

Of course I am. She said her relative works at the post office, so I don't take that to mean he's a mail carrier, who would see the neighborhood and housing in which his customer live. How does a post office employee know the income tax brackets of the people coming in to buy stamps or mail a package?

Yeah, I guess even an inside postal worker wouldn't know the economically disadvantaged areas in his zip code...... Please.
