Has a resort ever upgraded you without telling you (not for free)?

Well, we are leaving Friday for AKL!
We have a standard room booked at a rate of $119 plus tax.

Monday, I faxed them and requested a room near the pool and food court. I did not say that I wanted a water or pool view. I just meant a standard room closer to that area, rather than further.


So, last night I call to confirm my ressies and Ps's,etc. and the CM tells me that I have a pool view room at the rate of 140 something.

So, did the hotel upgrade me and charge me, or did the hotel upgrade me and not charge me (the CM took a long time figuring out the rate and getting back to me).

I had him change it back to standard and my original rate of $119.

Anybody have any idea what happened here?

$119 x 11% tax comes up to $132.09/night. If you were quoted something close to this, then you were still being charged the standard rate. If he quoted you $140 or more a night, then I think they uograded you and may have charged you for a pool view room. I would contact AKL directly and see if they have assigned your room as of yet. If so, see if it is a standard or pool view and at what rate. If standard, I would confirm the requests that you had originally sent to them and see what they have to say.

yes, he gave me the rate of 132.09 for the standard (when I changed it back). He originally said that I had a pool view room, with a rate of 140 something. Is it okay to call AKL directly? I don't want to be a bother.

By the way, I have my confirmation with my standard view room booked with a total ofr 396.00. Wouldn't they honor this?

Okay.... looking at my confirmation.... is this possible?

That they upgraded me to pool view (free) and he was reading off the 140 something that I had paid for my deposit (my original ressie was for $129 plus tax= 140 something).

Now.... if that was the case.....
then.... since I asked him to "change me to standard at $119" , that the hotel itself would still give me the pool view?

That request could have been taken as a request for a pool view.
The standard rooms are , for the most part, at the front of the resort, no where near the pool or food court.
They would not honor your printout for an upgraded room, they will honor your printout or ressie for what you requested.
It is still busy season there, so, I would not bank on an upgrade, although, stranger things have happened.
Did you change rates, ie: your mention of an original reservation?
Call back and read the number from your reservation at the 119.00 rate.

Thanks for the advice!!! I would love a free upgrade (who wouldn't?), but really am expecting to get what I paid for. I just can't wait to get to AKL!!!
