Harumph! Others comment on VEP

This reminds me of my post from a few months back...that people do have these negative (and FALSE!) perceptions of DVC members and the DVC concept as snobby and elitism at its worst. I guess you can't please everyone! I wouldn't give the nay-sayers a second thought!! DVC resorts?? BRING THEM ON!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well, when I first heard about DVC, saw the prices, and had no idea what they were talking about with "points" I also thought it was a concept for the rich & famous. Finally, in 1993 I just went over to see how the other half lived...same way I like to tour new home and condo developments. Who knew I'd be signing on the dotted line? ;) Ignorance (stubborness?) may be causing some people to miss out on a wonderful alternative to staying in moderates every year.

I was a bit surprised by the comments, especially the "elitist" part. I guess it stems from ignorance more than anything.
I have no comment on BCV or the newest VEP. I bought the majority of my points at BWV, it's where I spend most of my time when I stay in Orlando. I am very happy with my purchase. I like having the advantage of the 11 month window to book what I want.
I like the fact that there are other DVC choices out there, it gives us more options. I don't see myself purchasing at VEP, although I am sure it will be beautiful. I almost bought VWL, but in the end I am waiting for the right BWV resale package to come through.
I have no problem with DVC expanding because I can't see what the disadvantages would be to the other members. I honestly don't feel that the possible higher point charts are going to affect me since I have the 11 month window. I am glad I bought so many points years ago because I would not want to be face with trying to buy them now, or at the future VEP.

Look, we are elitist. Intelligent people have a right to be.;)

And me sitting here in my DVC T-Shirt! Maybe I should hide it when I go outside so no one knows.....I don't want people to think I'm an elitist!:D

Okay guys in defense of Quentin, I don' t think he meant it the way it came out.

He's young, working his way through college and still striving towards the things that we all have and can take for granted.

I really don't think that he meant it to be as judgemental as it sounded.

<<He's young, working his way through college and still striving towards the things that we all have and can take for granted. >>

I graduate in December...

On the subject of higher point charts:
I REALLY don't think the points will be higher than BWV & WLV. While I do suspect BCV might be higher than BWV/WLV, I suspect that VEP will fall somewhere between OKW and BWV...

That being said, I'm still of the belief that BCV and VEP will be part of DVC II and will open at $100/point, and the exchange rate will be 2-to-1. (2 DVC I points for 1 DVC II point.) But I could also be WRONG... ;)

My other thought is about the Inn building... I'm guessing it will be like Vero's Inn rooms--not the triangular OKW-esque studios. That's why I'm suspecting rooms will be almost exactly like Vero's...

I didn't even pay attention to who had made the comment. My response is certainly not to Quentin personally but just to those who in general don't really understand DVC. Cause I was one of them!

Ripleysmom: I don't know if I necessarily agree with Quentin's comments. In the nicest way of course! ;) However, I must say that I am in school and young (is 26 young?) as well. And I would never take one year of my 40 years with DVC for granted. I didn't understand DVC either until I took the time to learn more and I know that I am very glad that I did.

Ann,

We just bought in over at VWL, and have not yet been on our first trip home, so I am definitely new at this. And, before I say anything, I would one day like to purchase a BW add-on myself. But if you already have your existing points at BW, wouldn't it be better to add on somewhere else? Initially I would have thought no, because you would want to take longer vacations at BW than you can now, and an add-on at BW would have made total sense to me. But with banking/borrowing, if you bought an add-on at VWL, you could always bank that year's VWL points, borrow next year's BWV points, still get a longer BW vacation than you could afford now, but every couple of years, you could take a well planned out trip to VWL as a change of scenery.
I don't mean this as even slightly confrontational, I am still in the process of trying to learn all of the inns and outs of point manipulation, trip planning, etc.
All I mean is this: Sure, you love the Boardwalk area and would want to stay there 80% or more of the time, but would you really want to stay there 100% of the time? And wouldn't it be nice to have the 11 month privileges somewhere else just every once in a while just for variety's sake?
Again, I really don't know what I'm talking about yet, still learning all about DVC.

Thanks for listening,

Jon :) :)

Doesn't bother me much to be perceived as elitist. When it comes to my DVC I'm just proud enough not to care about that! :) I feel that I'm just a little bit more entitled to the magic than "everyone else" is, and well.... I guess that's what being elitist is all about! Right?

Jon,
We bought BWV in 96 when it opened. After we got home we thought about how often we would go and decided that might as well add on more points. We called our guide and he said I could not add-on at the BW because it was not for sale yet in NY ( same thing happened when we called about VWL in March, but that's another story, hehe). He suggested buying at OKW. We did. Although I understand many people love OKW, it really isn't for me. We stayed there a few times in the beginning, but we found ourselves counting the days until we would move to the BW. We now cross our fingers at the 7 month window, at times we have gone on the BW waitlist, only once did it not come through, and so we spent some time at OKW that year.
We had called on VWL back in March. NY of course, was dragging their feet and we could not buy unless we went down to Disney. We will be at Disney in November. If they don't raise the prices again, we will probably stop in the DVC office. ( I do like buying directly from Disney.)I would like to stay at VWL before I purchase, just so I don't repeat my first mistake. Please don't think that I hate OKW, I think it's a very nice resort, just not MY type of resort. My thoughts are that I don't need the extra points, I want them, so I will wait until the right package/price comes up. BWV still seems to be hot, the properties don't seem to list for long, and many are selling for the asking price.
Congratulations on your purchase. We have stayed at WL ( hotel) and we thought it was beautiful. I especially like the decorations that they put up for Christmas! I also love the breakfast sandwiches!

I don't mind being called an elitist, but I do have 1 question:

Can I bring my polo pony to BWV?

When we go home to OKW next month, I hope to get a room near the canal. I like to sit on the balcony and watch the common people from the other resorts going back and forth to DD.
Please excuse me, I must pack the Grey Poupon.

I don't think there are stables at BWV for your pony, but feel free to drive up in your Ferrari and be sure to valet park. I will make sure that they save a space for you next to my Lamborghini.... ;)
