I didn't bother to read through every post, but...
I didn't read Twilight, and because of the hype that's been thrown in my face (courtesy of the girls in my math and spanish classes), I don't plan on it. My bias leans way in the Harry Potter side.
Personally, I think Harry Potter got / gets more hype than Twilight. I think the HP series targets a wider fanbase as opposed to Twilight. HP can be read by everyone, and so can Twilight, but I think it's geared towards females in our generation.
JK Rowling has kept the Harry Potter series alive and thriving for around 9 years or so. Twilight is fairly new. Rowling had huge gaps in her releases of the books, where as, correct me if I'm wrong, but Meyer releases Twilight books at a faster rate.
Twilight's magic is all about, correct me if I'm wrong again, the essence of love. The magic in Harry Potter is about magic.
Twlight's magic if purely the magic of love I guess.
But I find Harry Potter's main subject is love, so the magic in the book is not only magic, but how love and hate can affect magic.
