Harry Potter Protest

I have a brother who would probably love to participate in this book "cutting" stuff.

CENSORSHIP at its worst, pure and simple.

At least Harry will be in good company ("The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain, "Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger, etc.)

My question is, if they are cutting up their books, why did they buy them in the first place???

Is it just the Evil Emperor, with his natural scepticism, or does anyone else thing somebody may be trying to sell their own books on Harry Potter's coat tails?

A muggle is considered to be a boring, blinded and biased human who doesn’t believe in the world of witches or who despises it as evil.

Okay - if they're going to use terms from the book they should at least get them right!

I'm a Christian - and I LOVE Harry Potter and can't WAIT to see the movie! To paraphrase my favorite character - Ron Weasley - The really OUGHT to get their priorities straight!

Yeah, what she said. There has never been any mystery about what the books were about.

Our pastor has used positive references to the Harry Potter stories to illustrate a point he was making on more than one occassion. Guess all us Methodists are doomed now too.

Why don't they protest Santa Clause too? Doesn't he use magic? My kids have all the Potter books and the movie, and the only prevailing theme i've ever noticed is to do the right thing and stay true to your friends. Pretty evil thoughts there.

Oh pu-leeezzeee!!

While people have the right to avoid buying the books or letting their kids read them if they disaprove, this is all about the minister getting himself some cheap publicity and won't accomplish a thing. .

As I recall, back in the day some preachers tried this kind of stunt to get people to stop buying Elvis and Beatle's records. . doesn't seem like that worked out very well for them. . . :p

What a tool. . .

I just HAD to reply to this one! I live in a town in New Mexico that a while back made news all across the country because a "pastor" was going to hold a "Harry Potter" book burning.

This is sooooooo scary.

A "man of God" has decided to "judge".

ALL of our police force was there because they feared violence.

It was an ugly moment in our town's history.

The ministry of The Jesus Party will host an Anti-Harry Potter Conference in the theatre room at the Ramada Inn at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.

Actually, a number of these folks would feel right at home with the DIS RIGHTEOUS:rolleyes:    ...........

Anyone know how far it is from Lewiston, ME to Salem, MA? I bet it's not far.

Don't these people have anything better to do???

The resounding theme of all the Harry Potter books is good will always triumph over evil. Isn't that a pretty good message to send to our kids?

Besides - it's FICTION. Why do people have to over analyze everything???

My MIL would go for this. She won't even let the kids play anything Harry Potter in her house. It's the devils work all that witchcraft and wizardry!

Yeah, remember that line about love being the strongest magic of all.

Pretty dark, evil, scary stuff - isn't it??

Actually, there are quite a few DISers who disagree with Harry. I remember when the last movie came out that there were quite a few who said they would not let their child read it because of the sorcery and such in it.

I SALIVATE over the posts of the DIS RIGHTEOUS!!!!!!!

I gotta say though- These folks can burn anything of their own that they wish. I don't care what they burn as long as it isn't a case of insurance fraud, lol. It's America folks, land of the free, and they aren't harming anyone else with their actions that I can see, either directly or indirectly. They have the right to act on their religious beliefs and I support that right. Anyway that's my ever so humble opinion.
