Harry Potter Complete Book Spoiler Thread

DD always defended him. I couldn't find a good reason why he did this. Harry mentioned that it had something to do with Snape feeling guilty about Harry's parents dying after he told LV about the prophecy he overheard. That just doesn't wash ... Snape hated James and Lily, so why would he care?
Snape has a good reason to feel guilty for their deaths (especially Harry's father's). He apparantly loved Lily, but he owed his life to Harry's father. While they were students, Sirius had set up a "joke" that involved SS following Lupin into the shrieking shack - when he got there, he would have encountered Lupin as a werewolf. Harry's father came after him and saved him - which means SS owes his life to Harry's father. There is some sort of close magical connection between wizards who have saved each other's lives - we know that because DD told Harry that Harry was connected with that sort of magic after Harry saved Peter Pettigrew's life. We don't know much about it, other than what DD told Harry.

When SS had heard the first part of the prophesy and told LV about it, he did not know who it referred to. When he found out about Harry's parent's deaths, he realized that he had been responsible for their deaths. DD said that SS had come to him after their deaths and expressed his regret for having been responsible. I think part of his regret was love for Lily and part was because of his connection to Harry's father. I think that is a very good reason for DD to trust him.

Doesnt anyone know who RAB is? I think it stands for Remus and Black because they were mad about Lv killing Lilly and James potter so they tried to find a horcuxe to destory so that they were one step closer to killing Lv but Suris Black died before he told harry about it and Remus Lupin did not think harry was ready for that kind of info

The general assumption is that RAB is Regulus Black, Sirius' (supposedly) deceased brother.

I agree with this assumption becuase Harry, Sirius, Hermione, and Ron found a broken locket in The Black House in The Order of the Phoenix. This is a piece of evidence I believe many people take into consideration upon pondering who the identity of R.A.B. could possibly be. Also, Sirius stated that his brother Regulus had some conflict with Voldemort and that he wanted to kill him himself. With these two aspects in mind we can assume that Regulus Black is a worthy candidate.

We can also read into the identity of Voldemort's follower Avery. Avery was with him from the begining while in school. But on HPL it says that there may be two Averys. Perhaps Avery is Regulus Black's middle name and he assumed the new identity to hide himself or to make a deal with voldemort. This is assuming Regulus Black is still alive, of course.

If he is dead (or alive alike) we must determine where the locket thrown away in The Order of the Phoenix is now, and if it has been destroyed because it is said to be broken and unable to open.

Perhaps Kreacher hoarded it away with his other treasures under the boiler at Grimmauld Place.

I hope so, because Harry could just then command him to give it to him. :thumbsup2

Does anybody know why Lucius Malfoy walks with a cane? Does he need a cane for some reason? I'm wondering if that cane is a horcrux. It would make sense that Voldemort would trust a horcrux to Lucius since Lucius is one of Voldemort's most faithful servants.
Good theory!!! I wonder if in any of the books, does it mention Lucius using a cane? Not that it matters b/c the horcrux could be anything and anywhere! Doesn't necessarily have to be something they mentioned in the book, right!? Just wondering if the cane was only used as a movie prop to make Lucius seem more of an "aristocrat" or if it's mentioned in the book.

I have not doublechecked (or triplechecked) in the books, but someone else asked this and I think it came up on one of the Harry Potter forums. The answer I have seen is no, the cane is not mentioned in the books and I don't remember any mentiion of it in the books myself.

Thanks for the input! I didn't recall a cane myself and, even though I've read those books a few times over, you never know what small detail you might've missed or can't recall!

It's interesting to consider *what* might be a horcrux! When I first read the theory, I thought "just b/c it's in the movie doesn't mean anything" but then I though "well, why not?" You never know w/JKR, right!? I guess we'll have to wait until next summer to find out!!

When the last book came out, I was re-reading the 3rd book to DD and then read the 4th book, knowing all the stuff that you find out in the last book (DD is disabled and can't read them herself). You do read differently when you know things, but who knows what looks like a little detail that might be important later.

This is a very interesting theory and one I hadn't heard before.

The other possibility regarding the locket found at Grimmauld Place is that Mundungus Fletcher could have sold it off with all the items he stole. I'm certain that locket is one of the horcruxes though. Finding it now, however, may not be that easy for Harry.

I was thinking that too. I think Mundungus Fletcher will cut a deal to get charges dropped for the locket. It has just the right air of Irony...

Thanks.
Yes, she has enjoyed them. I'm trying to decide if I should just break down and get the CDs of the 5th book because it would be much easier than actually reading all of it to her myself!

To the others - I also agree that locket must have some significance, especially since it can't be opened. Whether it actually is a horcrux or just has some magic connected to it that we don't know about (like those nifty transfer cabinets), I'm sure it will be in the last book somehow.

Its almost sad to see the series come to an end - dd 9 and I were just talking about this yesterday!! I just sincerely hope that JK Rowling doesnt do the same thing that Louisa May Alcott did!! (LMA hearing the general consensus of her Little Woman, took the books in a different direction for excitement and to surprise the audience!!)

Anyway, if you havent been to the Harry Potter Lexicon, plan on spending a few hours there, they really catalouge everything!! EVERYTHING - the time lines are incredible!!

::yes::
JK Rowling has said she even goes there to check when she needs to check a fact about something.

The CD's are great! :thumbsup2 Jim Dale reads them and does an incredible job! We've listened to them on road trips in the past. However, nothing beats reading to your child, regardless of their age!!!!

We bought the audiobooks for books 4 and 5 to listen to while we drove to WDW last summer. Whoof - they are so long they got us not only to FL and back, but also kept me amused while I painted the living room and master bedroom after arriving home! I enjoy them a lot.

On reading to my child: my HP-obsessed DS (8) has me reading the books on a constant basis! It used to be that we'd read some CS Lewis, then switch to Susan Cooper, then something else; but for almost a year, all he wants is Harry Potter - we read HBP in the summer, then DS asked to start the series over, so we've been back through all of them. He still wanted to read them again, so now we're almost halfway through POA. He picks up on so much, and I don't mind reading them so often because he has wonderful insights or remembers seemingly insignificant moments in previous books that impact later ones. Not to mention I love snuggling down with him each night and sharing this incredible world.

I bought the audio CDs for Book 6 and loved them so much that I bought Book 5 too! But then someone broke into my garage and took some of the CDs for Book 5 that I had in the side pocket of the car. My DD's bike was stolen too but I was more concerned about the HP CDs than anything! The policeman kept wanting details on the bike but I kept going back to the CDs! Nothing else was stolen other than the bike and CDs and although I was glad that I didn't lose anything else, I was still so ticked that they took the HP CDs. I think that they mistook them for music CDs.

If the locket in Sirius' house is the horcrux, I guess we'll find out later how the locket got from 12 Grimmald Place to the cave.

Re Lucius' cane, didn't he keep his wand in the walking stick in the movie? So it's not really a cane but a fancy place for his wand?
