Went out for lunch, Snape giving Harry the memories. "Look at me!" I've been haunted by that since finishing Book 7. My take on this scene is that Snape's last breath is looking into Lily's eyes.

That's exactly what I thought too. I was so glad to see that Snape was really doing all that to protect Harry & he was working with Dumbledore. I liked the character from the beginning but I wasn't sure if it was because I like Alan Rickman so much or from JK Rowling's storytelling.

Maybe a combination? A great actor and a great part.

I agree. I certainly hope the screenwriters will keep the memory of Dumbledore's conversation with Snape:

You are right. I think that I have always liked snape cuz i felt that there was something we werent getting about him that would make him knda clear, u know what i mean. Like if i had known at the beg, what was said at the end, it woudlnt have been as good however, knowing the end now, when I look at the movies, (and i have had this ghastly obsession to watch all the movies various times in a riw lately..lol), i can see where I think that alan rickman knew about the ending.
There was an interview somewhere that said that he only took the role after wanting to find out more and that he was the only person character that rowling gave more of what was going to happen too, and i htink if you go back and look, you can see where he is playing hispart for hte ending.
ONe example is in the first movie, granted these are my opinions, soooo..lol.., anyway when harry is waiting to get sorted, he loks at snape and snape looks at thim and his scar hurts(we know now that quireel had lord v) but the look on snape's face when he first sees harry, i think it was the look that made him realize that he had his mothers eyes, being that that was the first time he saw him. Before I paid no attention to that and i thought that maybe it was cuz he hated him, but after reading the ending, i can see subtle acting things were he was playing the part for the ending all along.
Its very clever.

I like that idea... and then ending with "look at me". Ahhh, how tender...

I am so glad that Snape was a good guy in the end. I always felt he would be, I knew he was a good guy! The depth that his character was developed was amazing.

I also liked how Luscious and Narcissa were developed and how they learned that following Voldemort wasn't in their best interest! I would love to have read more about what happened to them, and how they continued in the wizzarding world.

I agree about Snape. I think he was so interesting because until the very end, you never really knew where his loyalties lay, and what motivated him. He sure looked like a bad guy, and there was no doubt that he hated Harry . . . but why did Dumbledore trust him so unconditionally? Of course, now we know, and I do think his storyline was one of the best parts of the Harry Potter series.

I also think Dumbledore became much more interesting in the last book. He was more than a kindly, doddering old man. He too, was tempted by power, had regrets, made some big mistakes, and did some not so nice things. And now we know his story too, and it all makes sense, doesn't it?

When I have the time, I'd like to go back and start from Book 1 again, and look for any hints that JK Rowling left earlier about the ultimate fate of both Snape and Dumbledore that I missed the first time. I think it will be really interesting to see things that may not have registered with me initially, but that I see in a different light now.

I'm listening to DH on CD right now. Jim Dale does a marvelous job with the male voices, not so much with the female ones. But it's still fantastic.

Today's Tears:

Today I got to just a block away from work when, listening to DH on cd, the tears came again. This time was when(as just mentioned in this thread yesterday) Snape is angered and appalled that Harry has been "kept alive" all these years so that he could "die at the right moment". Dumbledore queries whether Snape has actually come to care about Harry.

"For HIM???!!! EXPECTO PATRONUS!" and the silver doe emerges. Sniff.
"Severus, after all these years?"
"Always."

now, how am I going to drive safely whilst bawling uncontrollably on the way home tonight (expecting the Resurrection Stone scene)?

I haven't had time to read all this thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned or if its totally just a rumor. A friend of mine was told by somebody else that there are two versions of the latest HP book, one in the US and one overseas. She said the US version is the childrens book and the one in Europe is the adult version and it includes material about a more intimate relationship between some of the characters. This sounds like it can't be true to me but I know someone on here will know!

your rumor/facts are just a little mixed up. In the UK, a children's and adults version have each been released; I KNOW this has been done with at least the Sorcerer's Stone, I SUSPECT it has been done with all.

I don't think there is much, if any difference between the UK adult and US (adult by default) version (perhaps vocabulary? although DH used much more British vernacular than the others, I thought) . Hmm, I'll try a little googling and let you know what I find!

eta: the most consistent answer I found on the net is that the only difference between the versions is the cover art. I have a friend in London who works for Bloomsbury publishing (they publish HP), I'll ask her to verify!
