Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

This is correct. I was a wolf. Harry kept thinking it was a dog for Sirius...he thought she was sad over Sirius dying. Later in the book, when they find out that she was really in love with Lupin, it dawns on Harry that her patronus was a wolf and NOT a dog.

Excellent detail! Thanks! :thumbsup2

For everyone who missed her interview this morning on the today show, it is available on the today show website.

(I missed it, so I was happy it was there).

Sorry -- no time to read this entire thread (at this point it would take as long as the book!)...but I did just see the interview with Jo on the Today Show. It was FULL of spoilers, so I was sorry for anyone who was watching and hadn't finished reading yet.

The person who got a reprieve was Mr. Weasly, who was supposed to die in book 5.

She said that Harry and Ron revolutionized the Auror office, and Hermione was high up in the Office of Magical Law Enforcement. No more on Ginny or Luna. McGonagall was NOT head mistress (she was too old.)

ETA: She also said that she is planning on writing an Encyclopedia on HP, but no time soon (and no promises.) Also, she'll write more books, but not on the Wizarding world.

I was just about to post this as I just saw the interview on the internet. Isn't there to be more of the interview shown tomorrow? If so, hopefully more of the questions about other characters will be covered.

I thought she wrote the last chapter, basically how the series ended, not the epilogue years ago. I think she added the epilogue as the series wore on and saw the fans speculating on the future lives of the characters and to put the series to rest.

On the Today Show this morning, she said she had the last 1/3 of Deathly Hallows written quite awhile ago and it basically remained unchanged (although she did have to add Mr. Weasley as he was supposed to die in book 5) - she didn't specify whether the last 1/3 included the epilogue.

My DH brought up an interesting point about the epilogue. We've talked about how the writing style changed from book 1 to book 7, right? It seemed to get more mature and Harry and his friends got more mature. DH's theory is that in the epilogue the focus has returned to the younger generation, so the writing style returned to a younger style. So he felt it was symbolic of the whole circle of life thing. I kind of like that thought.

Like I mentioned in a previous post in regards to the epilogue, I believe this was the "last chapter" that she has talked about all along. The last word was supposed to be "scar" but JKR says she changed that little bit while completing this book.

Heres a line from the interview that tickled me a bit.

"It would have been humanly impossible to answer every single question that comes up," she told NBC. "Because, I'm dealing with a level of obsession in some of my fans that will not rest until they know the middle names of Harry's great, great grandparents."

:rotfl:

Here's a question for you (sorry if this has been answered - I didn't read through all 38 pages!) James and Lily died in 1981. Harry is 17. Why the time difference between now and when the story would supposedly be taking place? I always assumed the story was sort of "real-time". According to Ms. Rowling, this book is taking place 10 years ago. I don't remember any other references to the year in prior books. Does anyone else? Does anyone know why she did this?

The year had already been locked in place by Nearly Headless Nick's 500th death day party in 1992. So the story takes place over seven years, regardless of how much time as elapsed between books.

Interesting thought. I agree.

 The sad thing is, she is right. :scared1:

yeah but she's right....i want to know their names....

I think, (need to reread) that he said at the end he wanted to put the wand back (I am assuming in the grave with DD body) and we would still be the master of it.) If he died of natural causes then, the power of the wand would die with him.

Is this what others thought?

I haven't read every single post so I apologize if this has been discussed already, but at the end I thought Harry puts the wand behind the picture of Dumbledore...in the same place the sword was hidden before Snape found a way to get it to Harry. And I htink you are right that the power of the wand dies with him when he dies of natural causes.

I still don't think the wand it's self was overly-powerful.

The wand makes you unbeatable, but if a wizard or witch beats you, they gain control of it? Sounds like a natural progression of the powers of the users, not the wand its self.

I DO belive it had powers as one of the Deathly Hallows, but I don't think it made the user more powerful otherwise.

I assume it will go back to Dumbledore's tomb (which will need to be rebuilt.) That is where Voldemort went to get it, so that is where "putting it back" should be. Also, it does say that it's power will be broken as long as he dies a natural death.

page 749 (US regular version)
"I'm putting the Elder Wand," he told Dumbledore, who was watching him with enormous affection and admiration, "back where it came from. It can stay there. If I die a natural death like Ignotus, its power will be broken, won't it? The previous master will never have been defeated. That'll be the end of it."
Dumbledore nodded. They smile at each other.

I think the wand was going to be placed back in the grave with Dumbledore where it came from before Voldemort took it. I've been rereading the book, but I can't do it at night. I kept having these crazy Harry Potter/WDW dreams that were absolutely odd. (I visualize my happy place WDW to help me calm my mind and fall asleep) I dreamed one night that Harry,Ginny, Ron and Hermione had a double wedding ceremony at the castle and that the battle occured after the vows. Hermione and Ginny were doing spells with their wedding dresses hiked up.......neat, but too weird.

My DD 8, loves the book but can't quite read it because it's soo big, so I've been paraphrasing it to her. And between that and her questions, I'm jumping back and forth between books explaining things. I'm suprisingly more knowledgable than I thought.

someone remind me.... when did Sirius give Harry the mirror and why? And when did it break?

Sirius gave Harry the mirror in OotP so that he could contact him if he needs him. The mirror was broken after being left in the bottom of his trunk for over a year. Harry cuts himself on it in the beginning to Deathly Hallows.

Was it broken by neglect? I thought Harry broke it in a rage after Sirius died. (at least that is what my HP obsessed 15 year old niece told me. I am taking her word for it.) I don't remember it.
