HARMONIOUS SEPTEMBER 29, 2021

Final Note from me tonight:

Harmonious while it started off feeling like it'll connect to Epcot by being a 'World Showcase' of Disney Music didn't progress / transition into anything more. Felt like a neat lightshow with music playing, nothing more. Was like a watered down version of World of Color yet had chance of better music and display but didn't take advantage of it.

Epcot Forever told a better story, but lacked the light show appeal. Felt more like a staple than Harmonious by being connected to the park even without the Flair.

If Harmonious came first without the flair, and Epcot Forever second with this display, I think people would have enjoyed it more.

Those aren't new sadly. Illuminations had them and I think Epcot Forever had that moment too if I recall (at least pre covid when I went?)
Yeah, the perimeter fireworks were in Epcot Forever too. Cool effect, but not new at all.

Just watched it. For me those tired sappy Broadway songs should stay in the MK with Happily Ever After (yawn). I will take Illuminations any day over the new show. Also IMHO Disney ruined the look of the lagoon by placing all of the equipment out there. I’m sure in the end most will love it and with the money spent on building this show it will be around a long time. Again this is just my two cents. Can’t wait to see all of the Disney YouTube influencers vlogging about how great it is.

Here is my constructive criticism. All the songs except Mulan are loud. The show is just loud. They don’t bring it down to let it breathe and get intimate. “Remember me” should’ve been just the guy singing and not changed the arrangement from the original because that song is so emotional and beautiful already. On top of that I’m not a fan when 3 different songs are being sung at the same time and the singers are screaming at the top of their lungs. That’s not beautiful to me. And I didn’t hear an original and emotional song that connected it all together (like wishes , reflections of earth or even happily ever after). I thought early on they teased an original soundtrack that would be amazing and emotional, what happened?

YES - the three different songs at once drove me up a wall! None of it matched up. They were going for what was "thematically similar" instead of what worked from a musical standpoint, then tried to compensate with a background trying to split the difference between two different keys. WHYYY? Or piling 2-3 different languages on top of one another in the same passage (the end of Mulan was the worst offender here). Also the fact that it was entirely pop-type singers who sang with no emotion, just loudness and runs. Part of what makes these songs work is the emotion of the song that fits with the place in the film - and since so many of the songs in this show are the "I Want" song, the emotion is yearning. There was no 'yearning' in the performances.

This will not keep me in the park. Just makes me wish they were opening Epcot earlier so we could make it a much earlier day all together. I switched our 2nd Hollywood studios day to an Epcot day because of Remy and new show but seriously thinking of switching it back now, considering all the construction going on as well. Just maybe go after 2 on one of our extra days or skip Epcot all together since some of our group is not sure about Remy with some of motion sickness reviews.

We just got back to OKW after watching in person. We loved it! The musical arrangements are great, and the fireworks are very 360 at the end - you feel like you’re in the middle of the show. A new favorite for us. I imagine it doesn’t play as well on livestream. Give it a chance in person before you decide.

I saw it in person. It’s not great. It’s the worst of the recent new shows @ WDW.

Based on all of these neg reviews, I'm glad that fireworks/light shows are at the bottom of my list of stuff to do at WDW! Ha. I guess the only downside to this being unpopular would be that I'd now have more people to battle trying to beat the crowds out at the end of the night.

I made dinner reservations for it in case they revamp it some, lol. I think it’s beautiful to look at but I’m not getting the Epcot feels I did with Illuminations, so far. It was a soft opening so I hope it improves? If Candlelight Processional dining becomes available for my trip, I’d rather do that, at this point.

We watched the live stream last night. My thoughts are just on the music as I know the lights/pyro would feel much different in person. I liked the start in different languages, tying it into world showcase and then it just kind of went downhill. There needs to be an original song...titled "harmonious" that has emotion, and unites the world. Even happily ever after had a catchy original song. Too much IP for Epcot, not enough world uniting songs that pull the heart strings. And that ending... definitely couldn't tell it was the end thru the Livestream until they said goodnight....and it doesn't leave you with a happy feeling like the end of "we go on." We loved Illuminations and this is not a fitting replacement for it in it's current form.
