Harassed by tag?

I am sick of being protected. We are protecting ourselves to death and now we're including our children. Time to protect the rule makers with some duct tape across their mouths. That game can be called duct duct tape tape.
:cheer2:

Four square is out, can't promote a social hierarchy.

And I loved four square. Of course playing in the street may not have been the brightest thing......:rotfl:
And, my son just loves Dodgeball. Are we just meanies or what?:rotfl2:
Kim

Unbelievable. Be prepared...dodge ball will be the next form of harrassment.

:scared1: When I student taught at the middle school, dodge ball was THE game to play -- and they played it like the movie Dodge Ball. It was so much fun to watch! Those kids really got into it.

I thought it was the circle circle dot dot now you got your cooties shot , that warded off cooties?

Talk about a walk down memory lane.:rotfl2:

What a bunch of idiots. :rotfl2:

Heaven forbid they used a bit of common sense when it came to running the schools these days!! :lmao:

What I don't understand is how people complain about the health of our children and the obesity in children, yet, they ban games like tag, where it is basically ALL running.

What happen to this being a FREE country?

The lawyers got involved.

My husband often talks about a game they played in his neighborhood on the handball court. (this was the Bronx) One guy would be it and have to curl up against the wall trying to be as tiny as possible. The next guy would throw a handball at you as hard as he could. If he hits you - you stay the guy- if he misses he becomes the guy at the wall. :rotfl2:

And thankfully we don't live there. My boys would be in big trouble. They love tag. I mean really love tag. Even my 2 year old plays - in fact he tagged me this morning- handed me a bunch of plastic turtles and slapped me and said TAG YOU'RE IT! :rotfl2:

And you know I remember playing Kick the Can- we were the recycling pioneers of our time!
edit to add it was probably a beer can too!

The problem is that one or two kids go home and whine to mommy and then mommy goes and whines to the principal.

When I was in school, my fifth grade teacher would take us out for the last 30 minutes of the day to play bombardament/dodgeball. Everyone played and you sucked it up if you got hit hard. In other grades I remember playing tag and red rover (where you would look for the weakest kid to crash through their arms) again, nobody complained.

In Jersey City they called that game "Suicide".

I personally hate red rover, it's a boring game except for all the kids breaking their arms. I really have known to many people who have gotten hurt during that game.

Tag however was one of my favorites growing up, and freeze tag was a regular activity during gym class. Dodge ball wasn't allowed, but we would just play that in our neighborhoods.

What about Monkey in the Middle? I'm guessing that's banned also.

When I was in elementary school all we did during recess was chase each other around. We are given dodge balls and basketballs to play with. There was a maze and hopscotch board panted onto the blacktop. There was also a huge wooden playground. We played endless games of keep off the rocks, who can swing the highest, and obstacle course. Sure you got a splinter or a scraped knee every once in a while but that's what made it all the more fun! You went to the nurse's office and were bandaged up, you went back to class and had a story to tell. I have great memories of grade school recess. My favorites are of huge games of mother may I.

some children complained they were chased against their will.

If any one of my 3 kids would have come home to me and told me that they were getting chased in tag and didn't want to be chased I'd say:

"THEN DON'T RUN!"

If you don't run, you can't be chased and if you can't be chased you aren't playing tag. Then I'd probably tell them to stop being a wuss unless they were actually getting hurt hurt.

We are most definitely raising a bunch of wussie kids. I am actually embarrassed to be part of this age group of parents! We were kids once and how we ever survived tag, dodgeball, rollerskating without 9 pounds of pads etc...is beyond me!

Oooohhhh....remember the old playgrounds? The ones with merry-go-rounds you could spin really really fast and shoot a friend a good 10 yards airborn when they let go? Or the monkey bars....I never see the old fashioned 40 foot high medal monkey bars any more.

You really don't understand how many schools have problems with tag, well let me tell you.. ONE - in Colorada Springs!!!!

Tackle football will be banned next....

I guess I should be thankful for my kid's school. They play tag, they even play football. Football was banned for about 3 weeks, but not because of the intensity. Just because the football kids were being cliquish and excluding others who wanted to play.

They actually painted 4 squares on the pavement for the kids. And gasp, the 5th grade has a lacrosse tournament, complete with sticks and hard rubber balls. The 3rd through 5th grades participate in an adventure course for two weeks with high wires, etc. The 5th grades go on a camping adventure for several days in the mountains- usually in the snow.

Not all schools are helping to raise wussies :teeth:

I'm gonna guess dodge ball is out and out assault -- not just harrassment.

I hated dodge ball. The boys would whip the balls so fast at our heads. I would have red welts on my legs. hated it. I don't think it should be banned, but i also don't think you should have to participate if you don't want to.

ETA: Actually I don't think it was dodge ball that we played. It was battleball. There were about 6-8 balls flying around at a time. HATED IT!

Loved tag though.

Weird thing is I live just north of Colorado Springs and there is ZIPPO coverage of this in the local newspaper. :confused3

I can see opting out if you don't want to play, but banning certain children's games for everyone seems ridiculous.
