January 4th
Well, it was time for a down day so we tried to have a lie in in the morning. The kids however decided 6:30 was getting up time so up I got. Plan for today was Blizzard Beach as the weather was predicting a beautiful 84. We left about 10:30 and were at Blizzard Beach about 10:40 thanks to the wonderful shortcut off 192 down Sherbeth Road. The parking lot only had about 20 cars so it was looking good for us.
Again I had underestimated the size of this park, its huge! I knew I wanted to settle near Tikes Peak for the kids but I hadn't realised that this was away from everything else. Anyway, we settled and the kids got to exploring. Beautiful clean warm water but a fairly rough bottom to the pool. The mini slides were great and my kids spent a good couple of hours going up and down with rafts and playing in the jumping water. I spent most of my time craning my neck around because this area is big in its own right and I could not see them all the time. Lifeguards were everywhere though so I could relax a little.
We decided to check out the lazy river as it was something we could all do together and it was great. It took about 45 minutes to get round and it was hard to keep the kids together as they kept floating off on their own current. I didn't really appreciate the icy water either (why are these bits in the shade? Brrr)
Lunch was a bbq pulled pork sandwich (yum) and then it was time for a bigger ride. Again, we had to take turns. Lyndsay and Alex tried the toboggan run which they really enjoyed while James, me , Cara and Dean went for the family raft ride. If I hadn't of had the kids I think i would have really enjoyed this one but I was paranoid about the roughness of the ride with them there. You really go up the side quite high and the potential tidal wave at the bottom threatened to drown Dean. They loved it, I was just glad to have everybody accounted for at the end.
After a bit more splashing time, it was time for the off. There is clearly so much more to this park than we saw with some outstanding rides, but the kids did limit us here and I think it is more for older ones. Tikes peak is a great area though and is perfect for mini sized thrills. I will be back.
Went home for a nap/ Tv break and thought about tonight. Rainforest Cafe it was to be. Cara was thrilled and we got there about 4:30 so we got a table no problem. The food was blah, service not outstanding and very overpriced. What a shame. The kids came out and saw the merry go round so a ride was next. Please, if you're gonna work on a kiddie ride, at least like children. This CM was so grumpy, I'm suprised Snow White didn't come and take him for his nap.
Anyway, it was lovely to walk around a little and absorb the lights. I have always liked Downtown Disney with the atmosphere, unlimited shopping, disney music, pin trading and pretty lights everywhere. bed was calling around 7pm (I know, how sad are we) so we got home to get the kids to bed. Blackjack called again and we settled down around 9:30pm.
See you soon,
Claire
