Hi we are planning a masked ball for october.Did anyone here ever attend the meal at the haunted mansion a few years back and if you did can you tell me what was on the menu.We are looking for actual food recipe and whatever they called it I know that theymade the meal sound goulish. Thanks in advance daveb

A DIS regular named Janet2k had a banquet at the movie set of the Haunted Mansion when it was at MGM a few years ago. She had a wonderful report (with lots of pictures) and great descriptions of all the food.
If you PM her, I'm pretty sure she kept links to her reviews because I have seen posts from her where she linked to her trip reports when people wanted info about some of the other meals she had during that trip.

Do they still have a Happy Haunts Ball? I've never heard of it. Do they do anything like that at Walt Disney World or just Disneyland? Sounds fun.

Happy Haunts Ball was at WDW for a few years, they stopped it and who knows if it will return.

Daveb, are you planning a masquerade ball for Walt Disney World or one for your hometown? If you are planning a private event in Walt Disney World, the Disney chefs should be able to provide you with everything you need. They have been extremely gracious with me over the past couple of years as I’ve planned my family's private events. Those events wouldn’t have been half as much fun without their expert help.

As to the Happy Haunts Ball, here is some info as I remember it…

I attended the first two (of three) Happy Haunts Balls in WDW. They were basically merchandise events. For the first event, it wasn’t anything fancy, just buffet dinner at a couple of locations in the MK. For the second event, Disney changed things up a bit and offered three tiers of tickets. The guests who had purchased the top tier enjoyed dinner inside the Haunted Mansion (I heard it was wonderful). For the other two tiers, the dinner varied. The second tier had a very fun dinner in one of the convention resorts on the night prior to the event, while the third tier only had a buffet dinner in the MK on the night of the actual event (the same buffet dinner that the other two tiers had also enjoyed that night).

I considered purchasing the top tier tickets so I could dine inside the Haunted Mansion, but I was in a wheelchair and it effected how I chose to spend my vacation. But as SueM in MN has so kindly mentioned (hi, Sue!), I wound up planning a unique event of my own – a dinner party on the ballroom set of the “Haunted Mansion” movie. It was my 19th wedding anniversary and I thought it would be a fun way to celebrate a wild & crazy marriage. I shared the story of my dinner party in a trip report here on the Dis: click here. I ~think~ I began describing the party on page 9.

There are also links in my trip report to photos of my event, including the food that was served. The Chef de Cuisine for the Disney-MGM Studios & Animal Kingdom theme parks was the man who had created my menu (sadly, he left Disney a month or so ago). Since the movie was based in Louisiana, he wanted my menu to reflect that region's flavors. If you read my entire trip report, you’ll see how the menu came about.

I should mention that the only request I had for dinner was that dessert be served in the lighted skulls. The Chef de Cuisine was happy to oblige my request. (I’m sure he would have had it on the menu even if I hadn’t requested it since it truly is the most unique dessert that Disney offers.) I kept the dessert a secret from my guests. You should have seen the stunned looks on their faces as the dessert was brought to the dinner table and placed before them. It was priceless.

The meal for my dinner party was beyond scrumptious. Disney’s chefs are well-known for the culinary magic that they can create in a kitchen. My stomach ~growls~ just thinking about the meal that was served at my party. Yum! But besides being delicious, the meal also had a lot of fun touches -- a salad that was served inside what looked like a crystal ball; an edible tombstone that adorned the main entree; a chocolate coffin that was covered in spun-sugar cobwebs and glowed with an eerie red light; etc. Everything was not only delicious but also uniquely presented.

If the photo links in my trip report are broken (which Yahoo has a nasty habit of doing to me, arg!), click here for my on-line photo album of the event. You’ll find lots of photos of the food that was served, including a few of the special dessert: click here.

I can’t remember much about the third Happy Haunts Ball that was held in October of 2004. I couldn’t attend it because my husband and I were celebrating 20 years of marriage with a Fairy Tale Weddings vow renewal that night. The Chef de Cuisine again had created another incredible menu for my dinner party. This time, though, my guests dined inside the Great Movie Ride. ( I wrote about the planning of that event in another trip report here on the Dis.)

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I haven’t been on the Dis much lately and I very rarely come over to the Theme Parks Board. It was by chance that I visited the board tonight and discovered your post. I hope I’ve at least helped a little bit.

No matter where your event will be held, be it at Disney World or at home, have fun planning.

Wow! What a great party Janet had. I hope to be able to recreate that dinner table. And I must now stock up on glowing red icecubes. When I get back from my WDW trip in June - I can start planning my Halloween party.

anyonehave any ideas a themed dish whether appetiser or main course any ideas thanks daveb

Hi daveb,
I have found some awesome Halloween food recipes that I have copied and put in a special Halloween party notebook. I found lots of them on a Disney website, no less. I don't have enought posts to be able to put URL's in my current posts, and I haven't figured out how to PM yet, but I'm going to try right here right now to give you some ideas.

There's a Disney Online web site called Family Fun (there is also a magazine). In this website, since it is not now Halloween season, do a search for Halloween and you will find party ideas, decorating ideas and "Terrible Treats" recipes. I have recipes for fun stuff like, Goblin Grins, Skeleton Crudite, Worms on a Bun, Monster Brains in Skulls to Die For, Monster Paws, Finger Foods, etc.

Also, at the website for Better Homes and Gardens (BHG)search their Holidays tab for Halloween and get great ideas on recipes that are a little more grown up.

And HGTV website and the Food Network website also have great recipes. My favorites are Werewolf Hands and White Chocolate Eyeballs.

I hope this helps. If you find any good websites, keep my posted.

Bon Appetite.

marthastewart.com has some appetizer ideas. Click on Martha Stewart Living (in the menu on the left-hand side of the site). Then click on Holidays and go to Halloween.

Gladys, the dinner table was really lovely, especially in low-light conditions: click here. I have to laugh every time I think of that table. It is amazing what Disney can do with something as simple and childish as a glowing ice cube, eh? They are truly masters at their craft: click here. ;)

Daveb, thanks for the clarification. Your masked ball will be wonderful, I'm sure of it, especially since you are putting so much thought into it. How fun!

I found the following menu on the ‘net. It was for Disneyland’s “Haunted Mansion Holiday” event in 2003. The dinner was held inside the Blue Bayou Restaurant. The Cast Members who created the dinner menu obviously had a lot of fun with “The Nightmare Before Christmas” theme.

The Boo Bayou Presents
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" Dinner
October 2, 2003

Preset Corpse
Clown-with-the-Tear-Away-Bread, Creature-Under-the-Bed Cheese with Un-Savory Garlic and Poker-Faced Pumpkin Seed Spread

Forget puttin' on that poker face, we know you must be starvin'! There's no need to turn pale with hunger with this wicked assortment of goodies. Just "tear-away" a temptin' taste of these bootiful breads and chilling cheeses, and your tummy pangs will fold like a pair of lazy-eyed Jacks.

Second Corpse
Sally's Salad

Concocted with love and lefovers from Sally's miraculous kitchen, this bewitching mixture is just what the lovelorn ordered: Broken Hearts of Romaine, I'm Nobody's Baby Frisee, White-As-A-Sheet Asparagus, Current-ly Single Tomatoes, Autumn-We-Be-Berry-Good-Together Vinaigrette, and a mini Pumpkin Spice "Love" Loaf, for extra zing, served with Pumpkin King Butter-Me-Up. Dig in! Each bite awaits your gnashing teeth with open charms!

Third Corpse
"Entree du Oogie"
Gamblin' Game Hens & All-Bets-Are-Off Beef Tenderloin Filet

Oogie's roulette wheel's been roastin' free-range squawkers just for you! Yessir, they've been twirlin', whirlin' and cheatin' death 'till they came to a dead stop. Then Oogie rolled 'em like marked dice in reduced rare Porto and Scab-ernet sauce, paired 'em up with Smushroom Potatoes, and declared this dish a "full house" with Spinach Pureek on Yellowy Sun Burst and Cha-toe Buttered Scarrots. On top of that, he's been grilling the Beef Tenderloin all night long (but the beef refuses to answer any more insane questions).

Dessert, Of Corpse
Take a gamble and eat up. We're not tellin' you what it is!

I hope that helps. If I can find the dinner menu from one of WDW's events, I'll be sure to post it here. I remember seeing it a few years ago.
