Happy about alcohol policy!!

Hate to burst your bubble, but until it is a dry ship, there is always the possibility of people drinking too much.

Also, while people drink on the ship only a small number get bumbling stumbling drunk, and I have yet to witness rowdy behavior on board. So wasn't a booze cruise before, and still won't be a booze cruise now.

Personally it won't affect me. I've never really understood drinking in front of my child. This is a bit different but we went to WDW before our cruise last month and it was sad to see parents lined up at the resort's bar with kids in tow sitting there all bored while their parents drank. Not much of a family vacation especially when WDW has so much to offer for the kids.

We just got back from our first cruise ever and it was on the Fantasy and fell in love with our trip that we already have two more booked! Does it stink that I can not bring my Rum with me like I did this past trip? Yes and no... I brought on a bottle and I hardly got through it because I kept buying the drinks on the boat! Lol!! It would be nice to have the option to bring on a bottle of hard liquor or bigger sized craft beers but it is the way it is. Will this be a deal breaker of our future trips? Not at all unless they begin to charge extra for the kids club and at the same time charge for a drink package and yet the cost of the trips go up! That is different in my opinion!

The suspension of taking things to guest services for free of charge was a nice thing to have but again because this has stopped we will stop taking DCL trips?

Now we must strategically book tastings. 1:00 martinis then 3:00 mixology. Who's coming with me?

Well I have been on 15 DCL cruises. I would say Disney is one of the more sober cruises to take. It was never a booze cruise. I think the option was nice. Since the ship bars close so early compared to the other cruise lines. Walk around the ship at 1:00 am and it is very very quiet. I only drank Smirnoff ice coolers ( which are now banned) and maybe would have 2 during the whole trip. The only thing I do not like about the announcement is it should have been done before paid in full dates of people. It would have just been common courtesy. Bottom line is many will still sneak booze in now. I would never do that but many will. I find it kind of strange you would call it a booze cruise never having been on a DCL cruise.

am I the only person who is happy about this policy. I am going on a Disney cruise for my kids not a booze cruise. There are plenty of those around and much cheaper.

But you don't seem to get that everyone isn't you. You not caring that they are taking something from other people might bite you later when they take something away from you. Do you drink soda? What if I hoped they start charging for it?

And some people like both; they like some alcohol and they like their families.

Or like me, they want to bring their craft beer on board, which is bottled in 22oz bottles, not 12. This is a problem with the new policy. And I can't go tell my fave breweries to change the bottle for me.

Not much of a family vacation if the adults can't have an adult beverage if they wish to. And I've never once seen a bored kid at a bar. MY kid at a bar is chomping at the bit to get out, as it's not legal in WA for kids to be right *at* the bar, and it freaks him out that in FL it's OK. Other kids are playing, spinning on the chairs, having a grand time. Never seen a bored one.

In 3 cruises I have seen one overly drunk person and that was at 1 am in the bar and the bartenders cut him off, gave him water and took care of the situation with no incidence. This will in no way change the amount of alcohol being consumed in public areas. it will effect me being able to enjoy a Beer on my Veranda at night while looking out at the ocean. The person who started this thread stated she didn't sign up for a booze cruise? What do you think are in those drink of the day trays that are pushed on you all day while you sit at the pool? Some have also said people have gotten out of hand after 2 am with alcohol they brought on board. I can go on the Disney cruise site right now and order Beer for my room, expensive Beer but still the same alcohol. They changed nothing but the amount of money they can make.

I love the people who put Disney on a pedestal. I have been to Epcot during the Food and Wind festival multiple times and love it but there are days where it is not much different than the Vegas strip (as far as drinking goes), how many people go there to drink around the world?

I'm not incredibly upset about the change because I spend most of my time in the Bars in the evening, I usually leave Beer when I get off but it was a great perk.

I completely agree that these changes (not just the alcohol change) DCL is making should allow someone to opt out of their cruise even if past PIF date.

As with any change a park, cruise, whatever makes some people are happy and some are not. I just happen to be one of the happy ones on this one.

Really?! I don't drink but find this new rule change unfair to those that are PIF for upcoming cruises. We have sailed on 5 cruises for a total of over 50 nights and not witnessed one person out of control drunk. My kid has survived just fine with the old policy in place and really the bottom line is DCL wants to make money of those who drink and they will continue to drink just at an added cost.

My wife and I aren't big drinkers - a glass of wine maybe once a week - so we really don't care about this policy change. However, I am curious - what about this makes you actively "happy"? Have you had a bad experience with drunk people on a cruise before?

I don't see the issue with Disney trying to make more money they are a business and as I said above I think those that the policy affects should be able to opt out even if past paid in full date

Oh, yeah this is going to be a good one.

Just because Disney is not limiting what you can bring on board to drink yourself is not going to stop people who want to get drunk from doing so.
