Hannah Montana/t1 diabetes misinformation--Disney pulled the episode!

Yep! And I can personally testify that giving birth to triplets is NOTHING like Phoebe on Friends!:lmao: Ya know, one would think that people would know that, but I have actually had people tell me that they saw that Friends episode where Phoebe had her babies and so they knew what it was like for us. Ummmm...ok, sure you do. ;)

As legalsea said, people shouldn't expect to get medical information from a sitcom (and at least the medical dramas usually have an advisor, to make the stuff half-way right...but not always...) but as the above post illustrates, it's amazing how people will take what they see on TV as gospel truth, even if it's presented in a way that's meant to be FUNNY and not educational. I fear that some kids would watch Hannah Montanta and assume that the information was absolutely correct, and I wouldn't put it past some adults to do it too. Awareness is great - misinformation, not so much.

Yay for Disney - but it's too bad they couldn't have done even the most basic research before filming the ep, though. Maybe they could do another one, with the correct info sometime...

With all the promoting of the episode I'm sure that there will be people wondering what's going on with Oliver when no show airs that night. I do hope that Disney refilms the episode with the corrections or at least airs it as is with a PSA to address this issue. Viewers deserve to receive an episode that deals with real life situations, and it would be best if it is kept in mind for future episodes instead of being forgotten about.

BTW I had no clue that it was diabetes. I was thinking that it was cancer which is the usual route. Not that it'sa bad route (as I had a friend diagnosd with cancer while in elementary school), but it gets overused. So it is nice to hear that something else was being addressed.

I had gestational diabetes with two of my kids. One day I was talking to a woman who lived with her diabetic sister. This woman was shocked when I told her it was carbs NOT sugar that needed to be regulated. She and her sister had no clue why she couldn't keep her numbers in range. Apparently they thought nothing of having a huge plate of pasta but wouldn't touch a tiny slice of cake. Scary, where was that poor woman's nutritionist?

While in the hospital right after diagnosis, I can still remember my shock when the endo told me we could "make up" any carbs ds did not eat with chocolate pudding! I said, "but he's diabetic! He can't have pudding!" The endo said, "yes he can. For the most part, a carb is a carb--whether it is pasta or pudding."
