Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

Glad you're feeling better, I hope another week of rest is enough to do the trick! It's so hard to take days off but it sounds like it's the right thing for you right now!

Sooooo when's your next pool party?! ;) And I'm loving the (Thing 1 and Thing 2) x 2 picture!

Happy that your knee is feeling better! I hope that continues!!

I think it's super cool that you are pace leaders and actually that you run in a running group at all! I need to figure out how to find one close to me.

I loved the picture of Tigger with your daughter so much!! Adorable! And the one with Thing 1 and Thing 2 is so cute! I love looking back on old character photos of my kids!

Feeling very envious of your pool!

The snake sounds pretty scary - even if it was a baby! I've come across a couple of harmless black snakes while out running/walking - ick!

So glad your knee is better!

Also yay for opening the pool. We haven't opened ours yet as its not quite warm enough in Wisconsin yet.

Thank you! Slow progress but at least progress. I'm not sure it's warm enough here either, but my kids will swim in it long before I will. The cold doesn't seem to bother them as much as it does me.

I'm already going stir crazy wanting to run and it's only been 10 days. HA! I know you had to have been going nuts as long as you had to take off. My Thing 1 and Thing 2 were no match for the real Things.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I would have stuck with running like I have if not for our running group. We enjoy it so much and being pace leaders makes it even better.

That shot of Tigger with Sophie has to be one (if not my most) treasured Disney picture. I can't look at it without smiling.

I can't wait for the warmth to kick in and spend some weekends lazing out by the pool. It's a great luxury. Like you, I see garter snakes and black snakes fairly frequently, but not something like this one. I could be totally wrong about it being a rattler, but I googled pictures after we got home (because we all know that Google is the answer to all things) and I still think that may be right. Yikes!!

Speaking of snakes, we saw this when running the marathon one year at Disney.

He was in the Wide World of Sports area working his way along this fence. Right about eye level. EEK!!!

OFFICIALLY IN FOR GOOFY 2.0
WOOHOO!!! Chris and I are officially registered for Goofy. I'm so excited to run this challenge again. I missed marathon weekend so much when we skipped it this year, so super stoked to be going back in January. I can't wait to get my hands on the half-marathon Donald anniversary medal and another Mickey and Goofy to add to my collection. Even though Goofy likely won't sell out for months, I still felt compelled to be online right at noon to get registered. I had Chris and I signed up by 12:08, I think. Now I feel like I can start my planning in earnest. Goofy 2017, here we come!!!

YAAAAASSSSSS GOOFY!!! :yay:

I totally know what you mean - you're right that Goofy won't sell out for awhile, but last week I was ON IT and had my registration done within minutes. runDisney has us trained. :rotfl2:

Yay Goofy!

As you know I'm doing Dopey so I can't wait either! I'm super excited for that Donald Half as well.

I wasn't able to register myself but my mom did and I was texting her things like 15 minutes until registration! 10 minutes! 5! It's go time! She thinks I'm crazy but she's signed up for the 5K so we should have a lot of fun that week.

It really is ridiculous. And then I sat there stalking the Active site to see when the other races might sell out. I do see now that the half, 10K and 5K are all gone but the marathon and challenges are still open. I really thought Dopey would go before now.

Yay Goofy!

I'm excited that you are running Dopey. You are going to do great. Hey! You should start a training journal too. ;) That's hilarious that you were texting your mom like that. If she is going to run a race, she needs to understand the fever that overtakes us when it's REGISTRATION DAY!!!!!

Thanks! I was thinking about the training journal but then I was thinking about just doing that within my pre-trip report since I want to do one of those too. I agree that my mom needs to understand the craziness that is registration day.

Congrats on your registration of Goofy! If I hadn't already told DH I wasn't doing another Disney race until next year's Disneyland half (boohoo!), I would have been all over that. I just can't wait to do the January races!

OMG that snake picture during the Disney marathon is crazy!! It looks cool how its wrapped through the fence- but creepy!

Thank you! You really need to experience marathon weekend. It's pretty amazing.

Yeah, that snake was seriously crazy. Shudder.

TRAINING WEEK 4/24 - 4/30
Back in the saddle (sorta)

Well, still not a lot to talk about this week as I'm continuing to work on rehabilitating my knee, but some new information at least...
Sunday 4/24 - Wednesday 4/27 - Nothing but rest, baby.
Thursday 4/28 - Went for a three mile walk with Chris and a couple of other running pals. Toward the end of the walk my knee was starting to get a little sore, but basically it was fine. We took it nice and easy. I went for a massage Thursday night after work and ask her to try and work on the knee. She massaged and stretched it a bit and it felt really good.
Most of the pain is gone, but now it's very stiff and when I sit for a long time and then get up initially, there is some pain and considerable stiffness that takes some time to work out. The massage though did seem to help some and over the next few days I noticed the knee felt better. I think I'm going to try and get in for another massage next week.
Friday 4/29 - Rested again. Friday night we were invited to a fundraising event for the Boys and Girls club. Kurt Warner, former quarterback for the Rams and Cardinals, was there to speak. We had a really fun night.
Saturday 4/30 - First group run for our Galloway group. WOOHOO! I went along, but decided that the little two mile introductory run was one I should still skip. It was a bummer, but I just think I wasn't ready and our group leader wanted us to push toward the faster end of our target pace so we made sure people are really in the right group. We had a great turnout overall and our little Fuchsia group grew some with new faces. YAY!!

Here's where I'll ramble about intervals, so feel free to skip if you aren't interested. Our group has 8 pace groups in it and are set up like so...

BLUE - :90/:30 average pace of 9:30-10:00 m/m
FUCHSIA - :90/:30 average pace of 10:30-11:00 m/m
PINK - :60/:30 average pace of 11:00-11:30 m/m
GREEN - :60/:30 average pace of 12:00 - 12:30 m/m
PURPLE - :30/:30 average pace of 12:30 - 13:00 m/m
LAVENDER - :30/:30 average pace of 13:00 - 13:30 m/m
YELLOW - :30/:30 average pace of 13:30 - 14:00 m/m (Edit - Yellow is too hard to read on here :) )
ORANGE - :30/:40 average pace of 14:00 - 14:30 m/m
MANGO - WALKING GROUP Various paces

We probably had around 100-125 people for this kick-off which was great. I think there were about 12 or so in our Fuchsia group. Really excited to get started again!!

After the group run we headed down to Bentonville Arkansas to see our friend get promoted to General! It was a great ceremony with a fun party afterwards. Really had a great weekend!!

Sunday was back at home and did some work around the house and outside. My knee was feeling pretty good, so I told Chris I wanted to try to go for a short run doing :30/:30 intervals and nice and easy for a couple of miles to see how the knee felt. I picked up a compression sleeve for my knee and though I'd try that as well.

Haunted Slim SparkleSkirt and my injured knee were ready to go!
image_zpsc1dhb2qj.jpeg

We went to our local trail which is nice and flat around 8 PM and headed out. At first I was pretty uncomfortable, but decided that was partly because I had the sleeve too tight. Once I loosened that up, it felt a bit better. Some discomfort for sure, but no serious pain. About 1 mile in I got some tightness under my kneecap that kind of came and went. So, we finished the 2 miles doing the :30/:30 intervals with an overall pace of 12:32. So, not too bad really. My knee was a bit sore that evening when I went to bed, but this morning it felt about like it had before the run. It's still stiff and sore, but most of the pain is gone. I'm thinking I'll try to get another massage in this week and then try to run on Tuesday and Thursday again with some shorter intervals and slower pace to see how I fare. I think maybe I'll do :30/:30 again tomorrow and then :60/:30 on Thursday if all goes well on Tuesday. Then maybe I'll run with the Green group possibly on Saturday for the group run and see how I fare. Wish me luck!!!

Let's wrap things up with an RDP...

Only the best ride in all of Disney as far as I'm concerned!!!!

Quick update:

Went for a 3 mile run this morning doing :30/:30 intervals. Overall pace was a 12:14, so improved from the 2 mile run on Sunday. I didn't wear the knee brace this morning either. I felt actually really good until about the last quarter mile when the knee started to ache a bit. I finished out, but now that I'm at work, it's starting to bother me a bit. I might be pushing things too quickly to get back, but I'll see how it feels as the day progresses. Still, it felt so good to get out there and run again.

In other news, my InknBurn mermaid capris arrived yesterday. I'm so happy. Haven't tried them on yet, but they look beautiful. I told Chris that he could wrap them up and the kids can "give" them to me for Mother's Day. :)

Ugh, injuries are the worst! :( Glad that you could get out for a 3-miler, but that stinks that it's bugging you at work.

But at least you can be a pretty, pretty mermaid! :) I'm wondering if they're going to do anything tomorrow for May the 4th...:scratchin

Ha! I was just thinking about May the 4th possibilities as I was walking in this morning. I saw yesterday on the Facebook group that someone who sounded official said the April fools hoodies were going to start shipping this week!!!

Yes on the hoodies - Megan (InB co-owner) said that in one of the Facebook groups! She also said the track suits were taking longer than expected...I ordered one with my hoodie, so I won't get mine for awhile. And there's no way I'll be able to hold out not looking at hoodie pictures!

They haven't said anything about May the 4th...we'll see!!

Glad your knee is improving!

Ugh- snakes! Makes me think Indiana Jones! That picture you posted later with the snake in the fence during the marathon is freaky! Another reason I don't think full time Florida living would be for me.

Do you ever use your pool for cross training? Just curious!

Over 100 people- wow! How exciting that your group is growing! Too bad you couldn't get out there with them for the group run but better to wait it out until you'll be able to enjoy it. Exciting you think you'll be able to jump in with one of the other groups and work your way up soon!

Impatiently waiting for my shipping notice. :)

Mostly we just use the pool for relaxing although I do swim laps sometimes. I had some shoulder problems last summer that are much better now, so I'm hoping to add in some lap swimming this summer again more consistently.
