Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

I had some catching up to do on the journal reading today.

Snakes! Why'd it have to be snakes! Ack...I'd run so fast you'd think I was an olympian if I saw one on the path. And that pic of the snake at Disney...nope nope nope. This weekend my daughter was playing in my Uncle's backyard and he was gardening and she said they saw a snake. I thought she was being imaginative but he confirmed they actually did and they are all over. I immediately was like...ummm let's go play sidewalk chalk far away from any grass. I'm a big baby.

That pool looks amazing!

GOOFY! Congrats on getting registered and look forward to your reports.

I would like to steal your haunted mansion skirt. Just an FYI if you find it missing.

I hope you keep having knee improvement. Having a sore/stiff appendage is no fun, especially when you have "fun" training to look forward to. Also the "mango" group makes me want to go find a mango sorbet...so thank you for that.

Sorry, I totally missed replying to this in my INKnBURN obsessed haze. Snakes!! *shudder* I try to tell myself that they are very beneficial creatures, but still...YIPES!!

GOOFY!!! Thanks. I'm so excited.

That haunted mansion skirt remains one of my favorites.

You ladies KILL me. I totally caved ordered the mystery tank because y'all are getting my hopes up! #welcometotheclub :thanks:

Mwahahahahaha!! Welcome to the club indeed.

Hey ZellyB! I just had to share with you that my hoodie shipped today! :yay:

Mine's on it's way too. I know it's at our local FedEx shipping spot, but not sure it got out on today's run. Much quicker than the last few items I've purchased and had shipped via USPS. Can't wait!!!!

TRAINING WEEK 5/1-5/7
Nearly Normal

After taking quite a bit of rest time, I decided this week to start trying to ease back into a normal running routine and see how the knee held up...Verdict? Not bad. Not bad at all...
Sunday 5/1 - 2 mile easy run doing :30/:30 intervals. I mentioned this above and tried doing it with a knee brace, but honestly, I think the brace almost made things worse since I couldn't really bend my knee very well.
Monday 5/2 - Rest day. If all goes well this week, I'm planning to start back up with the circuit training next week again. I don't want to get too far out of that habit since I was really starting to enjoy it and seeing some progress.
Tuesday 5/3 - 3 mile run doing :30/:30. This run felt pretty good. It felt pretty easy too. I could maybe get used to that :30/:30 thing. :rolleyes1 Although I said as much to Chris as we were driving home and he said, "I love you, honey, but I'm not running :30/:30 with you all the time." HA! The knee was a bit sore going up the last hill, but otherwise pretty okay. Pace ended up at 12:14 which I thought was pretty good for running a :30/:30.
Wednesday - 5/4 - Rest day again.
Thursday - 5/5 - 3 mile run again this time doing :60/:30. Again, this run felt good. I'm always a bit aware of my knee, but there's no real pain to speak of. Just stiff and sore. Pace during the run felt good and I was feeling pretty strong. Overall pace of 11:00.

I went back for another massage today as well and she really worked the knee over a lot as well as doing some gentle stretching. I worried at first I'd done too much because it was pretty sore that night, but by the next day I was fine again.
Friday 5/6 - Rest day. Spent a lot of time trying to decide what to do for the group run and whether I should go ahead and run with our Fuchsia group at :90/:30 or do a week with the Pink group at :60/:30. Early on, our group leader wants us to run toward the faster end of our pace range to be sure people are really choosing the right group, so I was unsure how comfortable I would be setting that pace. Finally decided to just make a game-day decision.
Saturday 5/7 - Galloway group run set for 3 miles. Chris had gotten up early to go for a run because he is still needing more miles to train for his 50K in June. I felt good getting up and around and had to drop one of my daughters off for a school trip, so I got to the park and felt sound and the knee was okay, so I decided to run with Fuchsia. It was a good run although I did feel some fatigue at the end. Overall the pace felt good and my knee felt fine.

10:36 overall pace so right where we needed to be. I was glad to know my conditioning hadn't suffered too much from taking time off. I also decided to try doing some KT tape on my knee to see if that helped since the brace was not a winner. I taped the inside of my knee since that is really where most of the discomfort centers, although I think the origin is a tight tendon in the back of my knee. Anyway, I do think the tape helped a bit, so I'll probably continue to do that for awhile longer. Mostly I was just happy to get a good run in at a normal pace and feel pretty good afterwards.

Best part for last...I wore my mermaid capris and I got sooooooo many complements. I love them. Selfie shot with them, but you can barely see them because I'm a big #selfiefail at trying to get my clothing into these pictures. :rotfl2:

After we got home and had some breakfast we headed to the grocery store and picked up my bedding flowers for out by the pool. Along with some flowers for inside for Mother's Day.

Sunday 5/8 - HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!! - Spent a beautiful morning out planting my flowers. :cloud9:

In the evening we all went together to see the new live-action Jungle Book movie. Jungle Book is not one of my more favored Disney animated films, but I thoroughly enjoyed this live-action version. It was so pretty and actually quite engrossing and exciting. Highly recommend it if you haven't seen it yet.

That's all that's fit to print for now. Happy Monday, all!!!

So glad that you are feeling better! How is Chris doing with his injury?

You are ROCKING those capris! I got so many compliments on mine as well this weekend! I almost felt guilty telling people they were sold out!

Thanks! Chris is about the same. :( He's still trying to decide if he just learns to live with it or if he should go talk to an orthopedic surgeon.

Everyone in our Galloway group was loving my mermaid capris! I also had to tell a few of them they were sold out already. I'm glad I jumped on them when I did.

I love the flowers that you planted-- so happy its finally time to plant fun things in the yard! :)
And I am one of the suckers feeling sad that I took too long to order those mermaid capris. They are seriously gorgeous!!!
Your pace is looking seriously great btw!

Another week in the book! Glad you're still feeling good about your recovery/progress. LOVE those mermaid capris- have mine picked out for my run today :)

Happy Mother's day!! Pretty flowers :)

I'm always so happy to get flowers planted. Of course, in August when I'm tired of watering everything, I'll question why I planted them in the first place. ;) I'm sorry you missed out on the mermaid capris. :( I really love mine. And, thanks about the pace. Trying to get a bit faster, but we'll see how it goes.

Woohoo for mermaid capris!!

TRAINING WEEK 5/8-5/14

Sunday 5/8 - Rest day! Mother's Day!!
Monday 5/9 - Finally got back to doing the nautilus training. It went fine although I did drop the weights back some on a couple of the leg machines rather than pushing my knee too hard. I also walked a bit on the treadmill while waiting for Chris to finish up. Got about a mile in. When I got home from work, I had a package from INKnBURN on my counter. YAY!! My April Fool's Day mystery hoodie - BB8. So happy with it!!

Tuesday 5/10 - 4 mile run back at our normal :90/:30 interval. I did the KT tape again on my knee and that does seem to help a bit. A good run overall. I fatigued some at the end of it, but that's okay. My knee felt ok. It still doesn't ever feel quite normal, but at least it's pretty pain free. Pace was 10:57.
Unfortunately Chris had been complaining of not feeling well, so he stayed home, by late that night it was obvious he was really sick. He had a temperature and was complaining his throat hurt. I quick glanced in his mouth and I was pretty sure it was strep throat. :( He had a pretty miserable night.
Wednesday - 5/11 - No strength training today since Chris was so sick. He went to the doctor and got confirmation on the strep throat. At least antibiotics can help hurry recovery.
Thursday - 5/12 - We planned on a 4 mile run again, but felt like rest for Chris was in order. Plus, it was raining, so an unplanned rest day again.

Friday - 5/13 - Happy?? Friday the 13th. Rest day again. Chris was starting to feel better and went back to work, but he was still pretty exhausted. Poor guy. Best of all though, my oldest son, Drake, graduated from high school!! YAY!!! We had some family come in to help celebrate.

Saturday 5/14 - Galloway group run and we did 4 miles again pushing our pace a bit. We started out a little quick, so had to slow it up a bit later. Mile 3 of this route goes up a loooooong steady hill and we had a headwind, so that made it easy to slow down. We finished up with a 10:34 pace, so right where we needed to be. We had a graduation party for Drake at our house that afternoon with about 25-30 family members. It was a nice time although we had to rush off for a spring choir concert for our daughter, Sophie, that afternoon as well. This time of year is hectic!!!

So, had some bumps in the road with getting back to a normal schedule as I had hoped, but still getting there!

Glad you had a decent week. Congrats to your son! I don't graduate until June 11th. Awesome you got the BB-8 sweatshirt!

Glad to hear that the knee is feeling better - I hope that Chris is fully recovered soon!

Yay for Drake graduating! That is exciting! And look at you in your BB-8 hoodie, isn't it awesome? Yay!!

We get out of school pretty early around here! Congrats to you on the upcoming graduation.

Chris is much better now. Almost back to normal. We are so excited to have Drake graduated and on his way to college this fall. It got cold here again this weekend (what the heck, May?) so I do have an excuse to wear it at least. :)

Loving BB8!! I got mine Wednesday--I may have to turn our AC down so I can wear it though, summer has arrived in the south!

Congrats to Drake.....and to you and Chris! Graduation is such a great time!
I hope Chris' throat feels better, and your knee too! Loving your Training report!

Hooray for a good week! Bummer on the sickness though, but it sounds like it's on the upswing now. Where is your son going to college?

YAY for BB8!!! I'll keep that AC trick in mind for later this summer when I feel the need to get my BB8 on.

Luckily everyone seems to be doing better now. My son is going to a local community college to start. He'll probably end up transferring to Missouri State in a year or two, but he got some scholarship money for the community college, so it's basically free. Hard to beat that tuition rate. :)

Totally agree, can't beat almost free college. What's he going to study?
