Hanging clothes outside your room??

At Riverside last week I noticed a lot of people using the railing outside their room as a clothesline. I don't mean just towels. People were hanging shorts, shirts, and bathing suits on them.

One person actually had some kind of rope rigged up between two rooms. It stretched from the corner of one window, across the two doors and hooked on the opposite window. Every day when we got off the bus and were heading to our room, we had to look at this laundry line full of clothes. It kind of brought the feel of the whole place down a bit. Maybe they didn't realize that there is a clothesline in the bathroom. I didn't enjoy having to look at this every day.

Someone used the railing outside of my window to hang their towels to dry one day. So when I looked out my window to my nice garden view, it was blocked by someone elses towels. Those I moved right away.

What is your opinion on this matter??

It really isnt the end of the World when you see clothes hanging outside of POR. I don't understand why you would feel "It kind of brought the feel of the whole place down a bit." I mean I could see if it rained those days and they were drying out their clothes. And there was no room in the Bathroom and they didnt want the room to smell. I personally dont think of it as a problem. I actually would think in my head if they had something nice out there I would take it. Only though if it was really good. Dont worry about it.

I don't mind the occasional towel..but would find what the OP is describing as incredibly tacky.

It would make the resort look run down and unkept to have laundry hanging around the balcony railing and on makeshift lines... The resorts provide a line in the tub for this. (not to mention laundry facilities with DRYERS)

There must be rules for this at the resorts..?

>>^..^<<

Last December at GF, we saw one balcony rail covered with laundry, and I'm not talking about swimsuits. We saw jeans and shirts. My DH and I looked at each other and shrugged. Two days later DH went to do laundry and only one dryer was working. DH put all the wet clothing into that machine. An hour later, they were still wet. Fed up, he brought the still damp clothing back to hour room. We spread them out on every flat surface except the floor. ( We were spared of using the balcony as the evening air was damp. ) I wonder what the mousekeeper thought when she came to turn down the bed. Sometimes you can't help but be tacky.:)

Have to agree this is tacky. Very Green Acres. I'm sure this happens in other resorts but sort of fitting if you think about Riverside/Dixie Landings. (No offense meant to Southerns as I am one--don't burn me anyone)

When we go it's usually too humid outside for anything to dry.

Thats what I thought too. It was humid last week. They would be better off hanging them inside.

At BCV last month, we saw many folks hang their towels, swimsuits, and shorts on their balconies. I have to say that it did make me a little crazy. The building and grounds are so pretty that it was a drag to look at that. Plus, I can't even imagine how long it must have taken the stuff to dry it was SO hot and humid!

Dh puts virtually none of his clothes in the dryer - it all gets hung up to dry - he hates when stuff shrinks! so if we were ever at disney long enough to have to do laundry - the shower lin wouldn't be roomy enough (its fine for swim suits)- I just try to look at it as an energy conservation thing - and not tacky

I'd say it's bad enough when people leave their wet towels, clothing, etc on their balcony, but when they leave them on the common walk area, that's even tackier. The moderates and values don't have private balconies for their rooms, so doing this would look terrible. If you want to conserve energy, do it in your own room.

I do not like the idea of people hanging their clothes outside of their rooms regardless of resort...just takes away from the quality of any place

Thanks

This is my not so humble opinion. The resorts are for everyone's enjoyment. They are basically kept clean and in good tidy order. Disney provided clothes lines in the bathrooms and dryers in the laundry rooms. Use them (I don't particularly care if there not cheap or not). I don't personally enjoy watching your laundry dry or making the local area look more like a project instead of a vacation destination. I can understand if the dryers are broken and like the post above, dry them in your room and make your complaints known to management to have them handled. If I had saw someone tie a line up to dry there clothes in the public walkway, someone would've found there line cut and quiet possibly there clothes would've been placed in different places for them to find. Let's see if they would do that again. You wanted opinions so you got it.

I would not like the idea of bugs climbing all over my laundry neither, if left to dry on the railings. I would not like to put on a pair of white shorts covered in Bug Poop and end up looking like a dalmation!

When we were in the room and had clothes that were still damp after being in the dryer for an hour:rolleyes:  we would put the Air Con on cool and place themn on top of that weighted down. Only when we were in the room though in case it was dangerous or anything. This year we dont have that problem as we have rented a 2 bed villa at OKW :smooth: :D I hated the laundry trips on previous vacations:mad: :p

You're absolutely right Yecats. The resort is for everyone, it's not the personal residence of each guest. I definitely think it takes away from the appearance of a resort to see laundry hanging on people's balconies. Imagine if everyone did it!

I wonder if Disney doesn't have a rule against hanging personal items outside one's room as many hotels do. I find it extremely tacky and offensive and agree with the Green Acres comment.

I will place my bathingsuits outside to dry, they never seem to dry in the bathroom. I do place them on the chairs of the balcony, NEVER over the railings. I'm afraid they'll fall down or blow away if I placed them there.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority on this thread. Hanging clothes/towels on a railing or balcony at a resort is very tacky. Acutally this habit of others is one of my pet peeves and I usually do not care how people carry on with their lives. I hate to see this at home, so I definitley do not want to see this on vacation. This does decrease the beauty of a resort or home. JMO!

I remember reading on a board (might have been the old AOL Disney Boards years ago) about a family who had put their stuff over a railing to dry and it disappeared.

That said, count me in with the incredibly tacky group. With Florida humidity there's no way it would dry better/faster outdoors than inside over the tub.

I am almost positive that at least one of the resorts has something in the information you get at check-in saying that hanging out clothes isn't allowed.

ducklite;
count me in with the incredibly tacky group
I'm certain that some folks on the DB have already done that. :p
