Hanging clothes outside your room??

Peggy

How could you compare people standing on a balcony to someone rigging up a clothesline on a balcony:confused:

I expect to see people while on vacation. People do not detract from scenery.

Underwear and socks hanging from a balcony do detract from scenery at least for me.

I agree that this shouldn't be done. I sometimes leave my bathing suit on my own balcony on the chair to dry; no one can see it there. I love it when I am taking pictures of the resort and people's laundry is in it!!!

ROTFLOL!!! Reading these posts makes me think that WDW resorts look like some third-world slum with visions of hundreds of clotheslines strung from building to building, all filled with shirts, towels, undergarments and swimwear.

I cannot remember a single time where I noticed this or if I did, it didn't make any impression on me, nor did it have one iota of impact on my vacation or my enjoyment of the resort, the theming, the landscaping, etc.

If it truly is an issue, maybe a talk with a CM or the manager on duty at the resort would be more appropriate than complaining about it after the fact. If it's not something that rises to the level of a manager on duty complaint, then maybe it's not such a big issue after all.

I can honestly say I've never seen anything hanging from any balcony or public area. I've stayed at the CBR, WL, and Poly. I have been known to hang my bathsuit on the back of a balcony chair but no one sees it. Other then that I make use of the line in the tub or go to the laundry at the hotel.

The resorts are for everyone's enjoyment. They are basically kept clean and in good tidy order. Disney provided clothes lines in the bathrooms and dryers in the laundry rooms. Use them (I don't particularly care if there not cheap or not). I don't personally enjoy watching your laundry dry or making the local area look more like a project instead of a vacation destination.

I COMPLETELY AGREE!

When we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel/Orlando, we were bummed that they did not have balconys, but DH decided that ultimately, it kept the resort looking its nicest.

That said, I bring along old plastic hangers for our swimsuits and hang them on the slats of the plastic chairs - we see them - other guests don't. I still think they dry better outside, but the big rule of thumb is to bring them in before you go to bed!

This Aug. will be our first stay as DVC members, and I will not be happy if I have to look at someones Hanes! Natt

I stayed at the Beach Club last year, and I saw towels and clothes hanging from a few of the balconies. It was an eyesore which really made an elegant resort look cheap. Somebody might say, how can a few clothes on a rail make a whole resort look cheap? It did. It reminded me of when I see peeling paint in some Disney areas; it's just not in keeping with the look I love and expect from Disney.
Someone said, "don't worry about it" and "life is too short". I agree. I don't worry about it. But when I see it, my thought isn't "how lovely", it's "how tacky". Then it's forgotten while I have a Disney time...until it hits me in the eyes again!

Who cares if the bathing suits don't dry all the way. Don't you put them back on to get in the pool anyway?

What's even more confusing are the towels hanging on the railings. What's that all about? Doesn't the resort provide you with more towels if you need them? I don't even bring towels on vacation - we have too many other things to pack and drag along.

If your clothes get wet in a rain storm - dry them in the laundry facilities when you get the chance. In the meantime - keep them out of others view. I don't want to see other people "airing their dirty laundry".

Natt is right - just look at the apartment buildings in your town/city... the ones with balconies you get people putting bikes and freezers and all kinds of junk out there... the buildings with all windows, no balconies are so much classier looking :)

I guess the "balcony police" can sleep well at night knowing that they'll never have to see towels, swimwear, clothes or (GASP!) underwear flying in the breeze from Cinderella's Castle! :smooth: That's about the only place at WDW where I might get peeved at seeing something like this. Otherwise, I practice MYOB -- those people paid just as much or maybe more than I did to enjoy WDW. What they do in their room/balcony is really none of my business. ;)

You might not have to look at someone's Hanes, but you will probably see towels and suits hanging from balconies to dry. This has been discussed before on the DVC boards and someone came up with calling it "studio trash".

I totally agree that hanging towels, suits and other articles of clothing from the balcony detracts from the overall beauty of the resort. When we were at WL over July 4th, it seemed like there was laundry from at least 50% of the balconies. It just looks trashy. I also don't think a lot of people know about the laundry line in the bathroom. I had suits hanging from ours and my SIL saw it and said, "I always wondered what the silver thing was".

In the half-dozen or so trips that I've taken to the "world" - several at Dixie Landings - I can say that I've been to see this type of behaviour at only one place - the All Stars.

And, to be honest, I thought it looked tacky ! I couldn't help but think when I saw all the laundry over the rails "Bubba is alive and well !"

We never felt the need to hang anything outside. Maybe we just planned ahead a little better than most - we usually had enough towels and swimwear that what we needed to wear was dry by the time we needed it. Besides, though the temp may be lower inside, the items would usually dry out well enough for our purposes because of the lower humidity that the a/c provides.

Of course, maybe the towels over the rails aren't there to dry. They could be using them to hold their preferred "spot" at the railing. ;)

I agree that what you do in your own room is YOB to a certain degree (loud continuous noise at 2:00 a.m. would then be my business) but that is the true problem, these people aren't bringing in there rooms. However, what you do in a public area (such as hanging towels and clothes on a public railing) now becomes a public issue. At that point everyone has a right to their point of view. Remember I paid good money too stay in a fantastic resort that didn't look like a slum area.

We checked into the WL on July 29th, and had a pool view from the 7th floor. The first thing I noticed and my kids commented on was the amount of laundry hanging over people's balconies. I briefly thought that it looked really tacky, and that taking a pic from the balcony to show the 'nice' view was not worth the bother.

That said,, a few days later, I encountered 'the laundry line',, I mean, holy crap,,you would think a nice place like this can surely provide a more extensive laundry room wouldn't you? At least one for each wing. We had to hike a very long way, just to discover that there was a very long wait just to wash clothes in the very inadequate laundry room. There were alot of unhappy people in there. I suppose that people eventually tire of the waits, and end up hand washing their undies or something.

After the close encounter with the laundry line, I was much more forgiving of the 'clothelines' out on the balcony.

But I didn't succumb :p

It sounds like WDW needs to invest in some industrial size dryers. If I had a load in for an hour and it was still wet, I'd hang it wherever I could to dry. Yes, I know it looks tacky, but they'd provide decent laundry facilities if they were concerned about my Hanes hanging from their balconies.

One time in S.C. we watched in total amazement as this woman strung a rope between two trees. She hung out an entire weeks worth of clothing (with clothespins) for a family of 3. This was at a beautiful Time Share resort where there were full washers and dryers in every unit. I think they were up there 5 minutes before someone complained and she had to take them down. We just laughed because it was so bizzare. I felt kind of sorry for her because I don't think she really understood why she couldn't do it.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. But when Im on vacation I really dont care what other people do, I dont spend much time in my room and when Im outside I dont spend much time looking at what other people are doing.

Towels and stuff hanging outside on a balcony with swim suits is pretty common at any vacation spot.

Life is too short to get hung up on the little things, you should be enjoying your vacation and not worrying about other people, its just clothing, now if it was empty beer cans and trash they were laying out all over the place, then be concerned.

Just my opinion.

It is my opinion, too. The same people who get annoyed by everything else other people do get annoyed by this. No big surprises here. It seems as though worrying about what other people do is how some people enjoy their vacations.

Let me know where your staying next time and I'll come hang my underwear on your railing:p

I don't think any one here said they were annoyed or even worried . I asked for opinions on the topic, not opinions on the people who reply.

It seems as though worrying about what other people post is how some people enjoy these boards. No big surprises here:smooth:

I guess I can see why people are getting annoyed by this, if your paying the money for a nice resort you would want it to look nice, and not have to see peoples things when your walking outside. I just dont understand why people are getting so mad about something so stupid! It's not really a big deal when your walking and you see peoples towels and bathing suite on the balcony. WHO CARES!! Let them do what they want to do!

Just my opinion! :smooth:

ROFL craz4sdsny! :p

It amazes me how DIS'ers will post one post after the other explaining why they don't care about something ~ if they don't care ~ why bother posting??
