Handicapped Rooms at the Contemporary

My mother scored a great deal at the Contemporary through SOG for the 4th of July. She rents an ECV from one of the local places (Walker, etc) and usually drives to the parks. Since we'll be on the monorail, we're looking forward to taking it and leaving the car at "home" most of the time ;).

Does anyone know where the handicapped rooms are in the North Tower? I head about room 7188, but it's under the laundry and my mother would hate that because of the noise. I think she would like a room as close to Towers as possible. She uses an ECV at the parks, but would probably want to walk while at the resort. She can walk, but painfully and not very far and not very fast.

Thanks everyone!

I don't knnow the answer, but I know we have DISers who have stayed there.

I just had to post to say HI to someone from my home town!:D

I've stayed in a handicapped room in the south garden wing. I don't know if the buildings are mirror images of each other, but our room was closer to the tower side entrance than to the other one. We didn't need the handicapped room, but we made a one-night, same-day ressie, and that's what they had. We enjoyed it because it was just DH and I, so we liked have a king sized bed. The room was very spacious, so I don't think there will be any problems getting around in there. The bathroom was all in one room (instead of the sink being outside the toilet/shower area), which really made the bathroom much bigger.

Does your DM need all/any of the accommodations that an H/P room has like roll-in shower, raised toilet etc or do you think you need one because of the ECV? If she doesn't need any of the H/P accommodations then a regular room should work out okay for the ECV.

I would agree with Nanajo1. The rooms in the Contemporary are about the largest on property. I have never had any problem with th ECV in a standard room there. Unless she has need for the walk-in/roll-in shower (can't use a tub) and has to use grab bars you will be better off with a standard room.

She doesn't need a roll-in shower, but she does need grab bars on the tub. Her knees are shot and has problems climbing in and out of the tub. SOG suggested that she call Disney and add her requests to the current reservation, so that's what we'll do!

Thanks for all the help everyone. I'll make sure to report when we get back :).

I know Im in th minority here but I HATED my north tower room!! HATED I TELL YOU!!! The room was small had a MASSIVE table in the middle of it and I couldnt even go on my balcony to feed the brds because there was a HUGE bump in the floor....almost as big as the bridge inclines at PO/DL...I will never in my wildest days ever reccomend the contemp to anyone.... *shudder*
