Apparently TSA is allowing one clear zip lock bag with travel sized liquids - toothpaste, deo etc.

Don't know if the UK has updated it's stuff yet, but it's just in time for me!

Remember that, at least at the moment, this only applies to flights within the US and leaving the US... Flights leaving the UK do not currently allow liquids in hand luggage.

Confused now....

I also heard that you'd be able to take liquids as long they were bought in the departure lounge. Any truth in this?

When I flew back from NY last week I wasn't allowed any liquids and we were searched when I boarded. When in the departure lounge, I bought a drink and they told me they would remove the lid and I wouldn't be allowed it on the flight. Everything else had to be checked into my luggage and I was asked at the fast drop baggage desk about it and advised to transfer anything I may have.

Further confirmation re no liquids on UK to US flights - BBC.

I wonder if the BAA will now consider lifting the no drinks or toiletries on US flights now that the TSA have lifted theirs.

It looks like we need to know the BAA rules for flying out and the TSA ones for flying home!

BAA: BAA

TSA: http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/9-25_updated_passenger_guidance.shtm

Its not BAA who make the rules it is the Department for Transport as they cover all airports in the UK, whereas BAA only own about 5 of the airports.
