Hi

Dh and I are off to New York for 3 nights in March. I know its 6 months away, but I am a control freak when it comes to planning.

Dh and I would love to take a small suitcase or a medium/large holdall each as hand luggage. As soon as we arrive JFK we want to literally jump on the air train and head over to NYC and not have to wait for the luggage to come though.

We are flying with Virgin. Does anyone know if this can be done? Or should I look to check the luggage in and buy a medium suitcase instead? Has anyone done this? :confused3

Thanks.

I don't know about any other UK airport, but when we flew out from Gatwick 3-weeks ago, it didn't matter who you flew with. Basically, before going through to Passport Control and the Security Hall, they made everyone join this long line. Mid-way through the queue, there was a check-point and an airport staff member there with their little wooden box that went with the new hand luggage restrictions. They tested your hand luggage there and then. If you have two, one had to go inside the other, and it HAD to fit in the box. If it didn't, you were sent out of the line and told to check it in a hold luggage.

Now, this was 3-weeks ago, so I'm not sure how strict that still is. But if it is still like that, there's no way you could take what you want from the UK. Coming back from the US is a different matter, esp coming back from Orlando!

Not at the moment, no. But who knows by March (or even October)!

Yes people DO travel with hand luggage only, but probablt depends how long you are going for and whether you are a light packer and/or have to have EVERYTHING plus the kitchen sink with you...?

The only thing that you can do is chill for a while.. ANYTHING can happen between now and March.

Hi

Thanks for the advice. Well my dh will be okay he is a light packer. As for me no. It will be 2 pair of shoes, hair straightners, hair products etc...

Perhaps it will have to be checked in. Oh well. I would rather a safe flight and wait for my luggage. It was just a thought.

Only 6 months to go till NYC. Cant wait

Id be tempted to wait a while and see what happens - they have already relaxed the rules a bit - they may relax them more!

Oh my you are a brave woman if you can fit everything for a three night trip into hand luggage (restrictions or not!)

I'm a light traveller but I don't think I could squeeze it all in even then :teeth:

Hi

I was hoping to pinch some of Bruces space as well :rotfl:

Looks like it will be checked in luggage. Which is a pain. MCO took so long. Hopefully JFK will be much quicker.
