How do you tell the folks who has been laying on the hammocks swinging for about a good half hour that you want your turn? Or do you stand there and just keep waiting and so to give them hints that you want to to also try the hammocks? I don't want to be rude, but at the same time, there's other people I'm sure who want to also relax on the hammock. I don't know how much longer were they planning to stay there, an hour or two or three?

I didn't see too many hammocks around. How many are there? I think CBR has more hammocks than Poly. Thanks!

I view hammocks like beach chairs, if someone is in there, I think they can stay for as long as they would like. We stayed at the Poly in April, and went out early in the evening to make sure we got a hammock for the fireworks. That is just my opinion, but I wouldn't expect someone to get out just because I wanted to get in a hammock there. Plus, I could tell that LOTS of non-guests were showing up on the Poly beach to see the fireworks even though there are clearly signs saying the facilities are for guests only...kind of bugged me when we paid $467/night...

I understand what you mean, Telly. During our Polynesian trips usually there is a hammock free. However, one night a girl was on it for at least 2 hours. When she finally got off she left her book and sunglasses on it, basically "reserving" it for later use (she was in a LV room right behind it). It does annoy me, but I don't see anything that can be done. I'm on vacation and the last thing I want to do is go ask someone if they will move off the hammock. I think the Polynesian should put up some more hammocks, and monitor the beach more closely for non-resort guests.

This annoys me too. I think (for the pool area anyway) they should have a wristband system like at the YC/BC resorts and Universal resorts. It works great.

There isn't a time limit so if they are occupied you are out of luck until someone leaves. I don't see it as something where you should worry about giving someone else a turn. It's just like any other space at the resorts. Of course, I wouldn't leave my stuff there either to "reserve" the space.

This is how I visualize it. Three swings in the park. All taken. Same kids have been swinging and swinging... and swinging for hours and hours. Then your child just stands there and watch. :( Just thinking about it makes me really sad.

It's not the same as the pool chair... there's plenty or enough for the Poly guests (just have to share- one or two chairs per family just to put your towels and belongings on) to go around. Hammocks are very very limited. I think there's only about 5.

There's a kid in all of us. And sometimes we pout and say "not fair". I wish they can be a little bit more concience that there maybe folks neary by who would like to try swinging on the hammock.

I know.. life isn't fair.

I agree, isn't that what hammocks are for - just laying around and being lazy?

True.. there's no rule of time limit on the hammocks. I guess I will stay there for as long as I want and if I have to go use the restroom or just a QUICK dip in the pool, or grab a bite to bring with me, I will leave my towel and my belongings there until I get back. Hmmm... I suppose I need to head out there early early in the morning. If not, maybe I'll just go out there late and stay there overnight! :) Has anyone seen anyone stay over night at the hammock?

So either buy your own swingset. Or better yet, encourage your child to find something else fun to do. When you go to a public place with limited resources, you have to be a bit flexable.

There is too much to do at WDW/Polynesian without standing around tapping your foot waiting for someone to leave their hammock. ::yes::

There is no set time limit however hammocks are for people not towels or books. I'd have no problem giving a CM stuff left on a hammock to be put in "lost and found" or even just putting it on the ground.

You might, politely, ask once how long the guest was planning on using the hammock. Really just so you know if it pays to wait. I don't see why the person is under any obligation to get up for you.

Ask the person what section of the resort their room is in. Try not to strangle them if they say Dalmations.

Wow.
A bit taken aback by that question. I suppose if you really wanted to be pushier than standing there for 1/2 hour and gawking; you could ask a CSM to check for room keys.

Personally, I would never consider asking someone to move anything for my own benefit. I can just see the look on someone's face if I asked them to move off a bench for me

You just made me laugh... sorry. :teeth: I know huh! Tapping my foot and looking so impatient and breathing hard. Funny! :p No, I won't be doing that.. and waste my time waiting, no. I know there's so much to do at the Poly.

Well... I wish I could bring my own swing from home so my child can swing at the park, but that would be impossible.

Sooo... I can leave my stuff on the hammocks to use the bathroom, it's not like I am done swinging. And it's not like I am using #2. And I guess other folks would have to wait until I am done with the hammocks. Just like if you have to get something to eat or use the bathroom, you don't take your stuff with you, you leave it at the pool chair cause you know you will be coming right back, right? Just like you guys said they don't have to give it up for me just because I am waiting and I guess it goes both ways.. I won't give it up for them.. Is that cool?

Don't be upset if another guest either turns your stuff over to lost and found or decides it's garbage left by another guest and throws it out for you. The person in the hammock when you come back may just tell you the stuff was gone when they got there.

It works both ways, many of us will do the same thing if stuff is left at a pool chaise for any length of time.

Sorry most of us don't agree that guests should have to get off the hammock for you.

:rotfl2: You guys are making me laugh! I promise I will be nice! I am a nice person. I promise I won't be gawking at them and start throwing tantrum. But if that was an outsider (off-site guests) then they better start ducking! :duck: :rotfl2: JK!

Is it my turn yet... is it? :hourglass :yo-yo: :bored: JK!

Lighten up folks.. it's just a question! NO one is going to or should or have to do anything for me. Just like I won't get up for your either if I was the first one on the hammock since you guys say that there is no time limit and everyone seems to agree on this one. Okay guys?

Smile!! I think you guys have answered my question. Thanks so much for everyone's replys!! :)

Awww.. Thanks Aisling! princess: You're so sweet! :flower2: :flower: I just didn't want this to turn into a debate or an ugly fight. I got my answers from them and that's all I need. And I appreciate their time to reply. Anything more that what I need to hear is when I am done with the thread. :)

Yikes...you were there at a pretty busy time if I remember correctly. We lucked out and there was seldom anyone in the few hammocks the Polyesian has. I really can't think of a 'graceful' way to motivate someone to move along, so to speak.

Fantasia, you updated your family photo! You guys look great. Was that during the Polynesian stay or POFQ stay?

Hi Gary! This was actually taken from my very latest trip July 17-21. We stayed at POFQ. I was going to do another split again with Poly, but I decided to stay with POFQ.

I was at the Poly and POFQ on June 29- July 3. Here is the pix at the Polynesian with Lady Lipoa! She is really awesome! And she remembered me when we saw her again at O'hana.
