Halloween Cruisers 2002 Where are you?

We took parcels to the Post Office, put up our Christmas tree and decorated it Saturday. Then in the evening we went to a party of friends from church.

Today after church we worked on our Christmas letter and figured out how many we need to mail and how many we can send by e-mail. A trip to a couple stores showed us that there is no Christmas paper left that we like, so now we have to find a picture to put on it as we print it out.

Since we got home we have wrapped some presents to mail tomorrow and checked the e-mail.

Our snow is melting but it is still cold.

We are moved, settled and loving our new house and city. It snowed last week and I'm not sure if the kids were as excited as I was! We all came home from work/school and played outside - I'm just a big kid

We have two friends booked with us for next year - November 1st and I have my countdown timer going (at home, need to update the one here). They both have 5 yr old girls and 3 yr old boys so I'm sure we'll have a ball with them. I think all of our pictures helped convince them too!

I need to catch up on this thread, but I just wanted to say a quick hello and I'll check in more often now that I know where you are!

Debby

:) WELCOME BACK DEBBY!! :)
I sent PMs to everyone when our old thread was closed by Webmaster Michelle and I started this one, but I am not sure everyone got them.

The people we have not heard from are:
Lorraine, cbartos, jonglau and Starry-chan. Wish I had e-mail addresses for them.

Glad to hear you are doing so well in your new home and town! Keep us posted on your holidays and the kids. I love the pictures on your post! Do you have a site with cruise pictures posted???

Jan :earsgirl:

Hey Debby! Those new pictures are so ADORABLE! :D

Everything is pretty much normal here. Jan, can you believe it, we still haven't found out what part we are getting. The guy I have a crush on thought knows that he'll be "the angel of light" and it will be hysterical seeing him in a robe *cough* dress *cough*, feathery wings and a glitter halo. :p I think I'll either be an angel or a "trumpeter". At least, they have the best costumes. Easy to put on, easy to take off.

School gets out in 10 days! I can hardly wait. Only 8 days until Lord of the Rings. I can't wait for that either.

We're redecorating our entire house. So far we have repainted the bathrooms, and I'm working on posting up like five million celebrity pictures in my room. We put new tile in yesterday and we get new carpet on friday. The furniture will get here next week. A new couch, recliner (sp?), table, and chairs. Finally we get to put up our christmas decorations. Thank the Lord!

Emma - we have our final choir performance of the year on Friday. Let's put it this way, we have had one practice for it so far. Oh, and what does "wasail" mean? It's in one of our songs and our director says that it is a british word.

wasail?! Never heard of it Im afraid! We had our second performance this afternoon, it was a church serivce for the housebound that we'd been asked to sing at. Yesterday morning was a rehersal for the school's Christmas concert which is tomorrow night and yesterday evening we had a concert at another church but it wasnt a service or anything. We then have one on the 22nd to finish it all off! Phew!

Wassail is a Christmas punch--probably like spiced cider, spiced ale (beer) or spiced wine but if anyone has a better explanation, let us all know.

It also means to go carroling or to drink a toast to someone, especially at Christmas time.

There is a Christmas song--"Here we come a wassailing..." That would mean carroling from house to house and maybe getting some punch and a chance to warm up at each place. It is a British tradition from a long time ago.

Anyone know when it started?

Have a nice day all,
Jan :earsgirl:

Oh I know that song! I think Im going carol singing with some friends at some point, if I can face the cold that is!

Oh good, that's what I thought it meant. Cause I grew up knowing it "Here we go a caroling..."

Does anyone know the song "Mary Did You Know?" sung by Reba McEntire? Well anyway that's the song that my two friends and I are singing in the concert on Friday. Too bad our city is so big, we don't really have a place to go caroling.

Jan - You know about my mom's business? Well we were paid to hand out free light up nondisney wands to people at the very merry xmas party. Fifteen minutes after we started we were escorted off MK property. I guess they don't allow you to hand those things out. They were being really rude about it. The day we went it was raining and everything was cancelled, the parade, the shows, and everyone thought we ere disney. You should've seen the children's faces light up and DISNEY gets the credit for it!

I know what part in the xmas program I get. I'm going to be a village person. The costumes are pieces of fabric so we have to put something together ourselves. We keep saying how we should go as THE village people, you know, wear fireman hats and walk down the aisle singing the YMCA. Now that would be funny!

It all started off relativly normal, maths was boring but hey, what's new?!

Then I had physics, we had a supply teacher cos our regular one was doing something else. He gave us 2 sheets with information on to stick into our books and that was it for the lesson! So me and my friends (or which there were 7 of round one desk) decided to play this game where some1 goes through the alphabet and the letter they stop on (some1 shouts stop) you have to write down a boys name, girls name, band, flower, pretty much anything you like that begins with that letter. That was fun.

Drama was third, we were carrying on from last lesson where our rendition of "biddy biddy bang bang" had gone slightly wrong. We ended up doing a play about phsycopath elves eating their christmas dinner (of dancing fruits!)

French was the funniest of them all! We had to learn how to say things like I do the hoovering, I do the washing up etc. Its really boring so miss got us into groups and we had to sing or rap the phrases. All of our group is in choir so we put the french to prayer for africa which we sang last year! We went to practise on the corridor and ended up with the caretakers, our choir conductor, our french teacher, 2 deputy headteachers and various other french teachers for an audience! Of course Gareth who is also in choir but not in our french group happened to stand earwigging at the door. He managed to offend Kathryn (all of us actually but Kathryn took it personally) by telling us that it could have been better and was a semi tone too low. That in mind, there could be fireworks tonight...

English was boring so Im not gonna write about that. Tonight is the school's Christmas concert, im looking forward to that and fingers crossed it will go well!

Nice to hear about your school events RORY and EMMA. Classes do get "unusual" before a holiday.

RORY: Too bad that the light sticks were not well accepted by the powers that be. I wonder why.
I know MARY DID YOU KNOW and love it! I get goose bumps from that song. :)
Could you just go carroling in your own neighborhood? That is what we always did. We would go to some houses near the church so we kids could walk or they would drive us to someone's neighborhood and we'd walk through it.
One year they drove us house to house to the homes of elderly people who were unable to get to church. You should have seen the smiles on their faces when they came to the door to listen. Some gave us something to eat and drink. Unfortunately they did not know we were coming so some people were not home but we caroled to their Christmas wreath and left a Christmas card that said we had been there.
The YMCA thing is funny, and if you changed it to JESUS it would fit the theme, but would it fit the mood of the event.....???

EMMA: Do you supposed Gareth was so picky about your French singing BECAUSE he was not included?

Where do you suppose JESSICA is? Does she know about this thread?

Have a super day,
Jan :earsgirl:

I think he most probably was but it's not our fault, he isnt in our french class.

Today in biology miss was disecting a pig, it was interesting but oh so disgusting!

Oh, the concert went really well, just one more for us on the 22nd. That's gonna be great!

Glad your concert went well Emma! Our's is tomorrow.

Jan - That's funny because we came up with all new lyrics to our new song the "JE. S. U. S." It was really funny. Today was our first rehearsal. Hears going for it...

It all started out when we got there. We pretty much sat there for twenty minutes while the little kids sang. Then Mark, The angel of light, the guy I have a crush on had to go up and say his lines. Man he is really shy too. His mom told us all these stories. (she's my tv production teacher) they were hysterical. Well anyway and then he just stood there with his arms crossed and a Look on his face. It was actually really funny, well anyway and then about an hour later we (the villagers) finally got to go on the nativity scene. We then found out that we had to kneel, with our backs to the audience. Then little kids with candles come and they stand infront of us, with their front to the audience. So my friend who is also a villager says, "Sure, we wait an entire five years to be in this thing and these little kids who have to wait longer then we did get bigger parts then we do. What the hell is wrong with this picture!" But it is true. It's always us who are forgotten. We have to make our own costumes because the ones at school are hideous. We are the last to go on, beside the little kids, and even then we had to remind our teachers that we were there. Our teacher forgot to think of a place for us to go, hence we get stuck with our backs to teh audience. Won't they be surprised when we flip of our robes, now wearing jeans and start singing the JE. S. U. S. !!!

I have an extremely small neighborhood where people would shoot you if you start singing. Two of my friends are pretty much the same. And another lives in a private community where she would get kicked out if we go around singing. Nah, caroling wasn't meant for Orlando.

Ah, finally, let's see, Jessica is having a really hard time at school. She has lots of homework and she doesn't have time to go on the computer. I haven't talked to her for ages! Not since the cruise actually...

I sure hope we hear from some of the others on our cruise, but in the meantime, we three are having a nice chat! :) Right Emma and Rory?

Emma: Glad your concerts went so well. Dissection is interesting. A lot to learn about how bodies work, but messy.

Rory: Sorry to hear Jessica is overloaded. If she gets in touch with you, tell her about our thread here. I sent her a PM telling her where to find us, but it has not been picked up.
What was it that Mark's Mom told you that was so funny?
Are you really going to do the village people song? At the final performance or at a rehersal? I will be interested to hear how that all comes out.
Do you think that a local nursing home would be interested in having a group of you from school or church come over to carrol the patients there? I bet they would. You could call and ask the activities director or anyone at all and they could tell you who has to give permission. Those people get pretty lonely!

Have a great day,
Jan :earsgirl:

Indeed, it means I hardly have to send any emails but I also get hardly any in reply!

I made petit fours today in catering, it was so much fun! Only one more week till I break up for Xmas.

I wrote all my cards last night and forgot to take them to school this morning!

My friend managed to hurt her back on the trampoline today, she had to go home so I think Ill ring later and see how she is. Bless!

Jan- Oh yes, we are having a lovely chat!!! Our concert went well, but the microphone wasn't on when we sang Mary Did You Know. I guess we really didn't know.

Mark (I call him Jim with my friends, don't ask) was always very shy until 2nd grade. He never even talked. Well the teacher asked him a question once and he didn't answer. He just stayed quiet the entire time. Finally she got fed up and gave him a "detention" (timeout for 2 minutes) when he got home he couldn't stop talking about it. It was just funny to think of him as a little kid, it's still brings tears of laughter to my eyes.

No, I think my teachers would go frantic if we started doing that. Our pageant is in five (technically four) days and they would go CRAZY! If we did it during the one performance then they would kill us. I mean KILL us. I think we would get suspended. Our pageant is always so important for some reason.

I would do that thing with the nursing homes, but there are only three of us who like to sing. Patricia's mom is eight and a half months pregnant so she can't go anywhere. Daniela's cousin just arrived from Venezuela and she hasn't seen her for three years and Mariana, her cousin, doesn't like to sing. Sorry, but I guess not this year :(

EMMA - Sorry about your friend, hope she feels better. Don't forget the cards again! I always forget them and then it's too late! hehehe.

Hey everyone how are you!

It's been a while since I've posted, but I have been so busy here I can't even think straight.

I have one more week of work and then two weeks off for the holidays. YEA:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We have had some wicked weather here lately. Really bad rain storms. Yesterday we were on a tornado watch at school for the entire day. And around 1:30 in the afternoon a tornado touched down about 2 miles from our school. How scarey is that!!!!

But besides that, we finally got our tree up and decorated and have hung all of our outside lights. We usually have that done at thanksgiving time, but because we were up in Virginia, we just have not had the chance until this week.

I think I am just about done with my shopping. Now all I have to do is wrap and bake.:)

We got our cruise documents for our January trip. I can't even think about that until after the holidays. But I know my boys are excited. They have not sailed since January 2001.

EMMA: I have watched my extended version of LOTR about 5 times now. I can't wait until the two Towers is released next week. We were going to go see it on Wednesday when it opens, but my cousin wants to go with us and he is working nights until Saturday. SOOOO I have to wait until Saturday.
 Oh well.

That is all of my news for now.

Dena:earsgirl:

I have to wait till Saturday too, at least my friend will have a chance to censor it for me and let me know how many tissues im gonna need!

What's the extended version like? I have it but I havent got round to watching it yet, maybe that's how I'll fill my friday afternoon!

School Play auditions are tomorrow and Tuesday, dont know which ones Im going to yet, or what the play even is!

The weather here has been really cold this last week, hopefully it wont be so bad next week cos I have no school trousers (they keep shrinking) and I have to make do with a skirt and thick tights.

Ive done all my Christmas shopping but I have to wrap them all. We still need to put our tree up too. My english teacher wants our essays in for Wed, does he not realise we have better things to do?!

Another cruise! Wow! You are soooo lucky!

EMMA - Oh yeah, tissues. Too bad we didn't have them when we saw Tuck Everlasting! I can't wait to see it. I have a couple of friends who are skipping school on Wed, the day before the play to see it. You can;t really blame them though! I can't wait to see all those hot guys again!

Our school has one play a year (other then the xmas pageant and the easter pageant) this year we are doing an original about a school...putting on Romeo and Juliet. The girl who plays Juliet is really dorky and Romeo is really popluar. Of course they start to fall in love during the play. I want to play teh girl who plays Juliet because I still think 'Jim' should play Romeo. Again with the Just Immaginations! Doh!

JAN AND ANYONE ELSE WHO IS WONDERING WHAT THE HECK I'M TALKING ABOUT: "just Immaginations" is a story I wrote about me and my friends. The entire thing is a true story. If you want go to http://www.fanfiction.net and click on the find button. Then type in Scottish Dream have the browser set on pen name. There shoudl only be one of them with the number three next to them. that's me. GO ahead and click on that and you got me!

JAN - I made my costume today. It looks really nice.

We are back from our weekend get-away. We just went two hours away to our timeshare where we used some bonus time. We got in some golf--they only have 5 holes so we played the "whole" course and miniature golf. They have a full 18 holes or that, but the last one eats your ball and we were using our own balls, not theirs, so we played only 17 holes. We took a LONG walk, watched SPY KIDS, did some reading and slept late. NICE.

DENA: Enjoy that January Cruise! Glad to hear you are OK and not bothered by that tornado and that the Christmas tasks are proceeding smoothly.
We saw LOTR when our sons were here for Thanksgiving. Our older son owns it. I wish he had brought the extra discs as I would like to see the "making of" parts and find out how they made the Hobbits look little.

EMMA: How is your friend who hurt her back?
What happened with the pantomimes you and friends were going to do for your Mother's facility?
Did you remember to take in the cards?
Seems like petit fours would be hard to make. Are they?

RORY: Maybe another year you and friends can sing at a nursing home. Or maybe you and friends can go to one for a volunteer activity some other time in the year. Does your school require some volunteer time?
Do you think the people could hear MARY DID YOU KNOW ok?
When Jim was little and told his mother about the detention, was he upset? I envision a little fellow who was very upset.

Have a nice day,
Jan :earsgirl:
