Hello all - we just got back from a short vacation yesterday and had a chance to go on a dog sled ride. Has anyone ever done that? It was a blast and those dogs are incredible. Here is a picture of LaRue and DD4 (Soon to be DD5) getting ready for their ride

lurking...lurking ...nah, time to "come out" so to speak..

Hi :wave2: - Darlene here, my DH and DD8 will be cruising with all of you!!!! We are so excited - this is our first Dis cruise - we cruised RCI three times, the last in '98 just after DD turned 1. We have been vacationing in "the World" every year since 2000 (except for skippng 2001). We will be in Cat 10 - cabin 2147 - all the way aft, I believe. Even though we will be waaayyyy down at the end - I am still considering doing a ton of door signs!!!! We are second seating, wait listed for first, although I am considering just staying with late either way. We are flying in a day early and flying out a day later so we can visit the Space Center. Still have to decide on places to stay for that.

If you don't mind my putting in my two cents so soon: I love the idea of the wristbands!!!! My DD loves the idea of the trick-or-treating!!! My favoritte is the first door sign - although the last one is running a close second - I have a thing for "tada" Mickeys!!! Haven't made up my mind about t-shirts.....

We were hoping to sail with some friends of ours, but they decided at the last minute to go with Royal Caribbean - so it would be nice to make some friends!!!!! :sunny:

:wizard:

Welcome aboard!

WEll... after reading your comments on the wrist bands I guess I'll switch from being a fence sitter to .... being a fence sitter but faced towards going along with the idea! I still have never worn one and would rather wear a nice t-shirt with a design I made (and the DIS majority approved). I guess there's no harm in having a shirt plus a band, eh?

And our whoole family will be in pirate attire, and in costumes, and full formal wear, and otherwise in resort attire. The usual oover the top nonsense that comes with overpacking for the Nth time on a trip like this! LOL! :lmao: In fact.... my halloween costumes were imported from Singapore just for the occasion!

At any rate - welcome to our scary little cruise!

Goofydrives.......VERY cool, a dog sled ride!! Did they have fun?

Captain....you do kinda look like Michael Jackson in that picture :scared: :lmao:

Princessh...I love the first sign. Very cute. When are we planning on tot? Sunday? I feel bad about ruining the "surprise" of the kids costumes before Tuesday's ship tot. I'll have to think about that one

AWOL...you are good about the 7-9 age group. I have dd 9 and ds 8.

Ginger, I know it must stink to go back to work. I feel for you. Let us be your sounding board. Working outside the home is stressful!

Welcome all you FORMER lurkers. We are so glad to have new friends to
have fun with.

My cousin Julia will be joining us. Anyone have a 16/17 year old girl cruising with them? Boys beware she is beautiful!!!

What do you mean you can only wear a T-shirt so much before it needs to be washed? You are just not wearing it correctly. If you wear it in the pool, I believe that counts as being washed. Same thing goes for the ocean. :thumbsup2

I guess I need to bring a good supply of lysol on the trip. You might want to bring some eye protection!

GoofyDrivesACar said:
 I only wear it now on special occasions, as I don't want anything to happen to it.

You're sure you were talking about the wristband? Semper ubi sub ubi ubique

What is that white stuff? The sand there sure looks funny! Where did you go to do that?

The wrist bands are a GREAT idea! They serve a very different purpose than the tshirts, and I think there is definitely a place on board for both. :) I think the wristbands should be orange. :)

I know it looks like sand, but it is actually white dirt :rotfl2: You can find it up north, ya know

Welcome to all the new folks.

I love the idea with the wristbands but also think we need the shirts for the first day.

As for the halloween signs.....I know why you are doing them and not me....very creative, I think any of them will work.

Everyone have a great day....must get back to work

Goofy.....can you give more details on the sled ride. That really sounds like a lot of fun.

Those dogs are beautiful! I bet that was a blast. Have you seen Eight Below yet?

We have not seen 8 below yet - however we are huge dog fans here. At this point we will probably just get the DVD when it comes out. :thumbsup2

And on the shirts... I actually was hoping for more than just simple T-shirts... as I wanted an option for something a little nicer (as an option for all). I have plenty of t-shirts with something on it. AND I view these sort of souveneers as having really lasting utility with some measure of taste. A wrist band is very convenient but has little utility after the cruise. A garment slightly better then a t-shirt will have more versetility and potential use.

I was thinking of maybe a baseball top (3/4 sleeves with color while the body was white with the silk screening). Or maybe a ??? what-ever... I'm open to suggestions from the t-shirt maker(s) or anyone else suggesting something. Heck, if there are 25 DIS families of 3 on this board (lurking and otherwise) then the bunch of us are spending about $100,000 for our collective voyage! I would like nice memories of our trip. Yeah I know we each drop anywhere from $1500 up to what-ever for the vacation... so the cost varies widely. Anyways... $2.25 for a wrist band is a given from my POV. Lets do it. :thumbsup2

For the wrist band language what do you think of..... Haunted "DIZNEY" cruise - OCT 28-4th... is that the correct date range? Or how about the Haunted Magic Cruise ~ Oct 2006; or what about The Scary 2006 Magic Cruise; or what about simply 2006 Halloween Sailing on the Magic? And what of The Magical Haunted DIzney Cruise of 2006 ? Any other ideas folks? :confused3

Well... that's my 2 bits.

Dave

We went to a resort on the Minnesota/Canadian border and they offered free dog sled rides with a stay. Unfortunately our free ride was only about 2 miles, but you could pay for a longer run. Another couple we met up there went on a two hour ride, which went deep into the woods, and they even stopped to rest the dogs and to have a lunch on the trail. The day we went was going to be the last day of the season, as the temps were getting much to warm for the dogs. The mushers told us that the dogs prefer the temp to be minus 5 or colder. The resort rents 30 dogs a season from a local trainer and they mix and match the dogs (boy/girl) to try to get the best teams. One thing that I found amazing was the most the of dogs were between the ages of 8 and 12 and they even had two that were 13 years old. These dogs were in awesome shape and really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. The resort we stayed as was really cool, as they had deer walking all around and the girls even had the deer eating of their hands. If you ever need to get away for awhile (or to go into hiding) that was the place.

I have not seen that movie yet, but I would like to. Did you see it? Do you recommend it? I am worried that it might not have a happy ending. :sad1:

Just checking in....

Welcome to all the new comers...

It is somewhat sad......but mostly a "feel good" movie, because of the ending. It's also very thrilling. You would really enjoy it after having just had the experience you did.

Buckifan...

.... would you recommend 8 below to a 5 year old who relished Star Wars and Narnia type flicks?

My six year old daughter loved it!

Goofy....thanks for the info. It sounds like something Steven and I would love. Fran and Kelly do not like the cold weather too much.

Not much planned for the weekend. Supposed to be really nice again. Mid 80's and nothing but sun. Just got the solar heater fixed so maybe the pool will heat up some by Sunday.

Have a great weekend

Dave

Hope everyone has been having a good week. Things have been busy around here! Timmy has his first baseball tournament this weekend! We are the host team, so hopefully the team will do well. Let's just hope the rain stays away! :sunny:
Have a good weekend! I will check in when I can!
