Hello All,
I am new here as well, and since Awol decided to call out certain lurkers, I decided I should come out of the shadows sooner, rather than later. I am really looking forward to this cruise and hopefully getting a chance to complete the pirate excursion in St Maarten, that we missed out on last time.

ROTFLMAO! I LOVE that screenname & avatar! That is TOO funny and wholly appropriate! :rotfl2: But, I'm glad you've come out of the closet!

Katie, you should have used 'PlutoIsAMute' for your screen name ;) But, I even liked your old one, so what do I know?

For everbody else:
A bunch of our Nov 12, '05 dis group had booked a pirate cruise on St. Maarten through Lord Sheffield's, but was cancelled because of some not-so-nice weather. With that left undone, it's the one thing we don't have to plan for this trip. There is a thread on Cruise Critic with nothing but glowing reviews.

Kritter:
I'm sorry to hear about your dad. We will all keep him, and you, in our thoughts.

First of all welcome....Can not wait to meet you...Do you have kids etc???

I am the other half of LaRue. We have two daughters, who will be 7 and 5 on the date we sail.

I thought you might like my name. LaRue (FairyDisMom) was giving me a hard time about it this morning, but I like it.

Well, I'm still trying to get caught up on the thread, but NOPE! It all seems pretty tame compared to some other threads I have read (Did you read the "Live" thread from the Nov. 19th "Turkey Cruise"? WOW!)

OK...now I'm curious...but I can't seem to find that thread. My computer here at work won't let me "search" for some reason (says searching has been disabled). Can somone post a link please?

Thanks,
Nancy :)

Oh my gosh jsut got done reading through their thread looks like and sounds like they ahda great time///Lets hope we canhave this great of a time....

Just doing my nightly check in, between loads of laundry. This is the ONLY night that Kelly does not have gymnastics.......so this is my night to "fluff and fold". Usually we don't get home from gym until 8:30ish. By the time we eat dinner, it is just too late to think about washing clothes.

Kritter...............I use to find the teacher icon in the box to the right of my reply. I never pasted it in my signature.......I just always added it to my name. It use to be on the bottom row of smilies. It's gone, and when I click on the "more" button, nothing happens. :confused3

Augh!
That stupid dryer buzzer went off! You know, you'ld think when you buy that big Whirlpool Duet washer/dryer combo....with all those fancy computer thing-y's in them......they could make a dryer that would at least FOLD the clothes!

Got to run before they wrinkle!

Here's another harty Greetin' for....

GoofyDrivesACAr, LaRue & fairyDisMom!

Since my last post I can hardly follow the volume of postings that have transpired. Of course, we've been traveling for a couple of days and not been on line as much.

So - how many folks so far have kids that are aged 3 and 5? Our daughters will be 2+11 months and 5+7 months at the time of sailing and we would like to entertain a few emails and photos swaps to get our kids involved early as well. On the our last DIS sailing we swapped emails in advance with the kids... and although us parents had to do the actual typing of words - our kids were so cute about tapping their messages out as they dictated the messages! Such a hoot! SO - if anyone wants to volunteer an early exchange of emails and possibly photos then please drop a private message and we'll swap email addresses or if you prefer than post a general acknowledgement here and possibly other families will step forward and send private messages to you as well.

And to GoofyDrivesACar and the LaRUE family do you folks plan on bringing formal wear - and are you bringing costumes? And what of Pirate outfits? I'll volunteer that my family will have some sort of formal wear + pirate outfits and halloween costumes for all! The pirate outfits are recycled from the last Magic sailng this past Sept - but I will add detail enhancements. I was considering a plastic parrot or maybe a blunderbus for myself and or the kids. My spouse will not carry a parrot on her shoulder (so she sez now - but theat may change in the next 9 months! ... Heh-hee-hee).

At any rate - it nice to see our merry little band grow. I fully expect it to reach porportions way out of scale to follow easily at some point. And before it gets out of hand - I want to volunteer to host & organize an "official DIS Ice Cream :mickeybar Speed Eating contest". From my POV this will be the 2nd annual event of this sort anywhere among the DIS community (that I know of). Plus I will volunteer my "trade-mark" award certificates complete with signatures from the captain of the Magic AND possibly a Disney Character or two like last time! These are NOT available anywhere else since I make them - and they are perfectly free! Do we have any early volunteers as competitors? We're gonna have two stages of participants - one for the youngsters and one for those who are decidely NOT youngsters. And we will be using Mickey Bars! ::yes:: Any takers yet?

OK... thats enuf for now....

Capt,
I would volunteer Dh to participate Captain..I will check with him first but an ice cream is an ice cream and a mickey one to boot...I am sure he will not pass that up....

When for your last cruise did they set up a separte web site for everyone to register???Do we need to think about that???

Also general ? Is pirate night going to fall on halloween night?? for all of you past cruisers thought you could figure that one out....
got to go to bed...
kristin

One more thing before I go off to bed...For all of you expierenced cruisers??
What is the one thing that youwould telll a first timer to make sure they bring//
jen already told me the over the door shoe hanger thing...so you can not use that one ...already taken...Jen you are off the hook unless you can come up with another one for me.....

TWO things I would recommend 1st time DIS folks to bring....

.... (1st) one or two of the electric relif bands to guard against sea-sickness. Especially if anyone in the party is vulnerable to motion sickness. and (2nd) a short 6 foot extension cord with a multi-outlet tip.

Each cabin has only 2 outlets from what I recollect - and that is often insufficent if you carry any electronics or electrical devices. We have about a dozen different do-dads (2 digital cameras, rechargible batteries for my flash, the camcorder, 2 cell phones, a digital viewer for my photos, the notebook comuter, and a nite light + some other stuff I can't recall now).

And on the sea bands.... we've found these really work for us... and we generrally dislike the chemical alternatives. Reason being is they often take a few hours (Ior days) to achieve results - plus there are side effects - and hence are of NO HELP after onset of seasickness. Whereas the relief bands take effect within a few minutes even after onset and produce no physical side effects. Except - you should be careful when handing any electronic equipment while wearing a seaband that is cranked up to high level. I once short circuited a microdrive mass storage device while wearing one. I lost a few hundred photos - and fortunately, I had a backup storage card.

At any rate - the relief bands are especially invaluable as a day or two lost to sea sickness is a huge loss considering the cost of the vacation, eh? And if you buy the relief band from a place like the Sharper Image then you can RETURN it if you don't use it OR if you do use it but find it was not effective enough for your expectations. We have 3 bands and we carry spare batteries to boot! On our first Disny cruise our table mates' were having a terrible first evening at sea and we loaned them our seabands and it made their 2nd day at sea perfectly tolerable - thus saving a day and some of the nite before. AND on our last sailng it was really rough on the last day at sea - and the sea bands made the sailng tolerable - even though we were still uncomfortable - it would have been terrible without the bands.

That's our two bits of advice for 1st time folks....

And Kitter... your spouse is now on our list as ONE competitor for the 2nd annual Micky ice cream speed eating contest! Better get him to start practicing on his speed eating routine pretty soon! :goodvibes

Re: Seasickness
Do you ever watch Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel? If you can catch this episode. It is interesting:

Episode 43: Seasickness — Kill or Cure
The whole team takes on the challenge of finding the holy grail of the sea, i.e., an effective remedy for mal de mer, in this episode. From electric shock therapy to homeopathic tongue tinglers, can the MythBusters find a cure to this frequently regurgitated problem? Returning to shore, Adam and Jamie hit the road in a fuel efficiency special. They seek to answer the age-old question: Does driving with your pickup's tailgate down save gas and, hence, money?
The only 2 remedies that worked on them were ginger & an over-the-counter medicine and that made them loopy. If I thought there was chance I was going to be seasick, I would start taking ginger and throw on the seabands. And I would hold the bonine & dramamine close by in reserve. I was okay on our cruise (although I had to drink a lot of beer to walk straight), so I don't imagine I'll have any trouble next time.

On our last cruise, Katie and the girls brought formal wear and I rented a tux. I am sure we will do something similar this time as well, however I am not sure if I will rent a tux again, or bring a suit. We haven't decided what to do with the halloween costumes/pirate outfits yet, as I believe that pirate night falls on halloween this year. Usually our girls like to dress as princesses for halloween, so I am not sure how that is going to work.

Hello to all who have just joined in the thread, happy to e-meet you. :teeth:

Capt,
You can count a few of our family in, I'll check today on the exact number, but I thinkin,...maybe 5, I'll get the names and young'ns and not so young'ns ages if you need that too. Or if you choose to do a sign up let me know. This sounds really fun! WHO DOESN"T LOVE A MICKEY BAR???

Kritter,
one thing I recommend to 1st timers is to buy a water proof case,...(I can't think of the actual name, it is on a cord & can be worn around your neck or waist used for diving/swimming) but it will keep all of your I.D. and KTTW safe & dry PLUS it is great just to carry w/ you around the ship so you do not have to worry about pockets or purse.

We used clothes pins on the drapes to try to keep the early morning sun out of the room in hopes the little ones would sleep later. So depending on your type of room and which side of the ship you are on, that could be helpful.
