After reading your threads my wife is scared to do the holloween cruise, afraid she won't be able to sleep at night. So we transferred to the Sept 30th Cruise which seems like a little more subdued bunch of Diser's.

Hope we catch you again in the years to come

Awww......

.... we're not all that crazy!? :crazy2: OK... maybe I'm a little psychotic (bringing 2+ costumes for each of us not counting the monkey suits in black and white - still shopping for a nice black monkey suit though).

Of course, we might have a scary cruise too :hyper2: - and we have no control over that. My spouse and I have always regarded Halloween as a wierd sort of holiday occasion. ;) But - this being a Disney cruise we figured this would make it the LEAST scary of any Halloween event.... plus it would be an especially FUN opportunity to gather with a number of similar thinking fun loving DCL enthusiasts. :scared1:

On our last DCL sailing (sept labor day - our prior usual DCL date) we had some 104 individuals as I recollect. Of these perhaps 2 dozen left less than a half dozen posts. And we only had some 75 or so show up for the cruise meets.... consistent with the number of active thread participants. Plus a varying sub group of 50 joined in our private little side antics (the scavenger hunt, ice cream speed eating contest, custom T-shirt thing, and the pot luck of treats we gathered for our children). So - if you wanted to return to our sailng at a future date - then it would not be unreasonable to "lurk" on the thread - and or ship w/o mixing with the folks at the meet.

At any rate - your transfer is a sad little footnote to our little thread - and we know no matter which date you sail on - it will be a wonderful trip (as usual). So my spouse and I bid you a sad temporary farewell... and remeber that our gangway will always remain open to you should you decide the date of our sailng returns to favor for one reason or another.

:chat:

OK..... at any rate, I just wanted to add - I liked the two recipies posted and I hope to try one of them some time soon. I'll report on how it comes out when I do so. ::yes::

And KITTER... on Orbitz - note that there are a number of POWERFUL search matrixes availab le on Orbitz. One in paricular - is the +/- 2 day option combined with the expanded airport search stretching the search radius up to 80 miles from your primary airport. SO - you can in effect search for the lowest prices over a +/- 2 day span on the out and return legs from all airports within 80 miles of the primary point you designate. At one glance you can pick up if a certain unexpected date combination favors saving more. Sometimes there is little difference - sometimes NOT. :confused3

Otherwise searching 4 outbound and return dates against 2 or 3 (valid) region airports on each end could create about 36 different search combinations - and that would be pretty psychotic to run through all that to save a hundred or two. I would otherwise almost say - spend the money and go back to watching TV the rest of the evening!

Anyways - on the cruise I'll let ya'all know how it turns out - but I can't imagine it matching up to DCL. Consider - how do the Disney parks compare against the other amusement parks? Yeah - some might have bigger or faster coasters (we never miss that) - and some might be cheaper and have just as many "rides" - but there is a lot more QUALITY in the disney parks. It goes unquestioned how DIsney is cleaner (they win all the comparisons on how quickly trash is picked up in random tests)... and everyone knows the ambiance and attention to detail at the Disny parks is unmatched anywhere (that I know of) for an amusement park.

But - maybe I should explain - we're only doing the Carnival thing because we had some sort of $500 (or $800?) discount with icruise for having spent some large sum on their affinity system with a group booking I ran 2.5 years ago - and it was a use it or lose it sort of thing. Plus - it was NOT good on Disney (or Princess). SO - we sort of choose Carnival by default because they had a large number of sailngs all over the globe within a "no issue" price range. We were considering all sorts of sailngs from Europe to AK - but we settled on Mexico since it was so close and yet we had not done one in about 20 sailngs?! So it seemed time to try it - and why not if it is about 16-26% below their already decent fares?

Oh well .... that might have been more than anyone needed to know - but I am once again semi-immobilized with a sleeping toddler on my lap - and I have a spare moment to indulge in a little chit chat. :faint:

K... I'll go find me some other threads to HOG UP space on.... ::yes:: TTFN!

We live in Tampa.......over 2 hours away from the port. We are home, in bed, by 11:00.
I would make a 12:00 flight without even thinking about it!

(Hey! Where did my teacher icon go?)

thanks so much will be booking today for the noon flight...

Hi just lurking by yuor thread and wanted to say we went on the Halloween cruise in October 2004 and had a great time we planned our own trick or treating with the DISers and it was a blast. We are booked on a December 2006 but ya'll are making me wish for another Halloween cruise
Wendy

Disneed....

.... thanks for your encouraging thoughts. ::yes:: We're really looking forward to our modestly "eventful" little escapade this Halloween! Your remarks serve to underscore the potential for some "extra" good an' clean fun. :rotfl:

And Kitter....

....most folks definately do NOT bring tuxes. But since my daughter asked me if I would "dress up and be handsome" for the Sept cruise I decided to buy a white tropical cruising dinner tux. Now on the cruise, I only ran into ONE other fellow who had a white dinner tux in the "proper" style (scalloped lapels in same material as the jacket - not satin). Even so - I enjoied the idea of going to dinner and watching my daughter "beam" and smile at the idea of being formal for an evening. Plus I had several compliments on our "formal" polish AND many more remarks on a humorous photo that was taken with me in this tux doing something "funny" - and the photo evidently got prominant attention in Shutters. Not that I mind - as I'm just along for a little ..."so who's gonna really know me anyway" ... sort of week? And as such, most of the other DIS folks were commenting that they enjoied our Shutters photos and that I should go check them out - as I had not seen them until the last few days of the sailing.

SO - if you like the idea and I imagine - if your kids like the idea of dressing up - then I would say ... " by all means go ahead and bring a fair tux" plus the matching outfits for the ladies. Go have a little fun ... cuz' who's gonna really KNOW you anyway (from home or your family)?. Now - I don't mean to dress with anything less than proper or potentially embarassing (fluffy pink tuxes come to mind? :scared1: ) - of course. Just enjoy the formal nites on the sailng. I heard we're having two formal nites (I might be mistaken - maybe it's the upcoming Carnival cruise that has 2)... and now I'm looking for a formal black tux. Something classic and not just a dinner tux in black.

K - gotta get the kids lunch ready - Mom is still sleeping and catching up on lost sleep from the week obviously! ::yes::

Let the record show that cruisers were scared off this thread BEFORE I ever posted here! There have been some accusations in the past (yes, you Nov 12 '05) and they were all false! Well, mostly false anyway. There might have been some very slight basis in fact, but it was grossly over exaggerated. :rotfl2:

Looking forward to getting to know you all and having a great cruise! I'll be bringing my DW, DD7, & DS5 to keep me in line.

Captain:
I'll be joining you in wearing a tux on formal night. We picked one up at tuxedodirect.com that was really cheap and the quality was good for the price. I'm not generally the tux wearing type, but for a couple of hours at dinner one night, it is kinda fun. There is definitely a WIDE range of attire on formal night, so you can wear almost anything and you won't feel out of place. I was very attentive on our first dis cruise after all of the debates on formal night and what you could and should wear.

BTW, I think there is another lurker out there that needs to come out!

Kritter,
Those recipes sound great. I think I'll get the ingredients for the chicken from the store today. Maybe make it tonight or tomorrow. The pork seems like a little more work/time. Maybe try that over the weekend. Thanks so much for posting them. And the desert sounds soooo good, maybe save that for a family gathering or something. We have had so many goodies in the house over the Holidays, I'm trying to be good and stay away from that stuff for a while. But I love peanut butter and chocolate together, so I'm sure I'll love those!

So my new year resolution is to eat healthier and get organized. Anyone else want to share their resolutions?

YOur new picture is soo cute...I will have to show it to the girls when they get home...Was that a christmas picture??If so it came out just beautiful...
Do not really have any new year resolutions expect to stay healthy this year and not go into the hospital...
I am an organizational freak as my DH would call me...when it comes to the kids toys etc..He laughs and tells our friends and family that if it is not tied down then I will through it out...Just is that I can not stand clutter....Drives me nuts...When I was sick and came home my dinning room table had cards, flowers, etc.. gifts gallore that people had sent I almost had a heart attack that my table was filled with stuff....So that is why DH makes fun of me...
Again your picture is cute...
How was dinner with your SIL what did you make???

I was referring to the Nov 12, 2005 Cruise Meets thread. For some reason, they were scared of me. They claimed my avatar was too scary. I was going to change it, but they made such a big deal about it I probably never will.

Our first DC was the 11/12/05 Disney Magic Eastern 7 Day.

The first couple of days were a little rough and we did miss out on our excursion at St. Maarten. But, other than that, we had a blast and can't wait for October.

Oh that is too bad....Why was it so rough????Were people getting sick????

kritter said:

Yeah, it was really rough. There were lots of green faces and little dots (patches) behind the ears. We heard several crew members say it was the worst they had ever seen it, but we guessed they say that on every cruise. It wasn't too bad by the time we got to St. Maarten, but a lot of excursions were cancelled. So, we just went shopping and hung out all day, which wasn't all bad ;)

Hello everyone! I have read ALL 42 pgs :faint: and feel sad that I didn't check here months ago! I feel like I've missed out. You all seem to be getting to know eachother very well. So I'll try to keep up.

Sorry about the one that was scared away.... :confused3

My DMIL & DFIL are BIGJACK from Akron, OH they posted WAY back like pg 2 or something. There will be 12 of us myself, DH, DD (will be 9) DS (will be 5) DM, DF, DSister (16) Dsisters friend(16) BigJack & wife (inlaws), and 2 friends of ours, and we are soooo looking forward to sailing with Mickey again. This will be our 3rd :worship: Disney cruise, (6 total, but the others were 2 RCC, 1 CARNIVAL, and they don't count, only DCL from now on) all prior cruises were western, so we are happy to check out new ports.

Can anyone tell me anything about Coral World in St Thomas I think?? I read something somewhere about it, and wondering if it is worth seeing.. also Paradise point?

Kritter,
I sent a reply :hyper2: to another one of your threads last week, (before I found this one) about favorite cruise memories. I also enjoyed reading that thread. Thanks for starting this one too. I had NO idea anyone would be starting one last summer, so I didn't even look,...silly me, only TRUE Dis'ers here!!! :teeth:

Yooo-- Ho --- Ho ....

More swabbies fer our ship! Arrrrgg ... Arrr... Arrr... (they don't call me "the Capt'n fer nuttin!")....

And welcome aboard to our scary little cruise AWOL, Holly & Joe!

I gotta run for the moment so I'll edit more of this a little later tonite (gotta go get dinner before the restuarnt closes downstairs!).... :rotfl2:

cool... the hotels' wifi has coverage in the restuarant!.... :hyper:

So, I wanted to say & ask  .... AWOL... I actually LIKE your avatar! I don't quite know HOW to use an avatar other than those offferered by DIS. So... this leads me into asking whether your avatar implies that we can expect something extra out of you halloween costume this year? :scared1: As I'm lookin' to pack some fun costumes for ourselves. Plus the pirate gear to boot~! And the tuxes (that will be plural IF I get a decent black tux... I'll have to check out your tux site referral!).

And... Holly & Joe... :flower: I think it's wonderful to see a huge family gathering on our sailng! I organized a gathering with 41 people about 2 years ago to Alaska (half were family and firends and half were folks that worked for my firm) and it was a blast ... but it was also a ton of work!

As such, it seems certain your cruise is a guaranteed to be a super trip! :cool1: And yeah... I can hardly believe it - we may actually have our first casualty based on excessive enthusiasm. Well... actually - the truth should be known.... I don't believe it! It must have been something else as our DIS gathering is only a fraction of the passenger manifest and I do believe we have NOT engaged in (or remarked on) anything that might offend anyone. :scratchin

Oh well.... in any case - the 2005 halloween sailing had a positively ENORMOUS following with an UNBELIEVABLE number of hits and posts! :disrocks: So I am assuming we'll have a large and harty band of DIS enthusiasts :crowded: !

So... on the Coral world thing  ... we've been to the island a few times - and have NOT been there yet. i think the last time we were there this past September we rented a van (splitting it with another DIS family) and we ran all over the island - and we missed the Coral thing - but that's OK. Or was it the butterfly farm we were heading to - that was on St Maarten? And was COral World on St Thomas?.... yeah ... on St Thomas it was NOT a rental van... but rather we were planning on getting a taxi to visit the Cpral World anfd then hit the adjacent beach... OR... we were going to catch a ferry to St John then rent Zodiacs to motor around St John to secluded beaches and unexpected venues.

So - no - we have not done it yet - on St Thomas I was wacked with an eye thing - and I stayed back and watched the 2 kids who were sort of wacked as well.. and my spouse went ashore alone to power shop. We've been to St Thomas many times and she has a few places she likes to always hit. So - we actually didn't do very much on St Thomas this past Sept. Which means we'll simply have to make up for that on our next visit!

OK... dinners' over and we gotta git back up to the room for the nite...

TTFN! ::yes::

Thanks! I got the avatar from the MSN Messenger site and uploaded it here. I'm not sure you should expect too much of me for Halloween. Halloween is going to be a busy day! That's St. Maarten/Pirate Night on old hallows eve, right? I currently have no costume plan, but expect there will be some pirate attire involved.

We went to Coral World Coral World on our own. We got a "Taxi" and took the ride across the island. I think that was $9/person per direction (6 of us, ouch). We did it on our own because we didn't think the Disney excursion would allow enough time at Coral World as it also included a bus tour of the island. We might have been wrong on that, as Coral World was not as big as we expected! You can easily see everything in a couple hours. We got there pretty early and it was not crowded at all. After we got done there, we went over to Coki Beach, which was beautiful!

We didn't do any of the extra stuff we could have done at Coral World. Sea-trekkin' looked interesting, but a tad expensive for me at $68. The snuba looked like fun too. We didn't even rent any snorkeling equipment at Coki Beach.

We had a good time at Coral World even though we were expecting something a bit larger.
