They served "dinner" at 11:00....there were fireworks and LOTS of dancing. Time FLEW by.....before I knew it it was 4:38! Now........usually, I'm a "in bed by 9/10 girl........so this was a RARE event!!!!!!!!!

It IS easier to stay up when you're at a party, and not watching tv on your couch! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA :rotfl:

Hello Kritter (and all),
Well, we started out by wearing Mardi Gras beads at the Port on Saturday so we would all know who the DISers were. Many of us first met in the Terminal.

We had two DISmeets. One on Sunday afternoon up on deck 9 behind the CoveCafe and one on Thursday in the same place. On the Sunday meet, we gathered to discuss the rules of DIStag. A couple DISers arranged this game to get to know everyone and just have fun. We all brought enough gifts for 22 rooms. We actually had over 40 families in our group but only 22 of them wanted to play tag. We had a blast running around "tagging" rooms. DH and I raced down the stairs once and I took a tumble and sprained my ankle. Good thing it happened on Thursday and not earlier in the week. :rotfl2:

DH and I had our ressies linked with two of most wonderful cruisers (and DISers) so we had our dinners together. We did hang around with them after dinner too. They really got into "Pirate Night". He was a Jack Sparrow lookalike!!

It was so nice to run into DIS families all week. It felt like we knew each other for years.

Before the cruise the two guys who arranged the tag game set up a separate "secure" site for us to exchange personal info on. We shared Birthday's, Anniversaries, etc... After the cruise they set up yet another site so that we could post pictures and order each others prints.

DH and I gave cards to every DISer room that had a celebration. We also received cards and gifts from other DISers and even some other cruisers. We had quite a few magnetic door signs showing off our anniversary celebration. I brought along some extra cards and gave them out to non-DISers who had hand printed birthday or anniversary signs on their doors.

I brought along extra tag gifts and included a few with a card for a little girl down the hall who was celebrating her 8th birthday. She knocked on our door and gave us both a huge hug and kiss as a thank you!! :love2:

Many of us are still in touch with each other and as far as I know, 3 DIS families are cruising together again. (We are one of them).

that sounds like such fun...Hoping that our group can pull something liek this off...When did they start the web site so that everyone could share cabins etc...info...???

What a great idea for the gift tags...Hoping you will be cruising with us so you could help us out on this one for our group...

Hoping our group will grow as it gets closer...

You back to school tomorrow as well????

Yes..........sadly, we went back today......and, I hate to rub this in, but it was 75 and sunny here this afternoon. :sunny:

Got to LOVE Tampa!!!!!!! So glad Dave was transfered here, instead of Seattle, like we were originally scheduled!

It was....

... raining cats n' dogs, mice and gerbils along with all manner of godly creation here - plus it was blowing so hard ~ like nothing I can recollect in the past DECADE out here. So - we sort of stayed in.

It's been very laid back out here - and Kitter... sorry to hear of your discomforts - but having had a Doc visit - you probably have antibiotics and the stuff they serve now-a-days tends to knock down these bugs pretty well... so comfort and sunshiney days are just over the horizon!

AND... might I add that having lived all my years out here in California - that I miss the seasons. I've had an occasion or two where I visited my in-laws for the holidays when they were in PA... and they snowy Christmas was indeed a WONDERFUL thing. I even enjoied the novelty of choveling snow - plus all the other "fun" things related to snow - like driving on trecherous snowy iced over narrow twisty roads, and everything else. Needless to say - for a city slicker like myself it was a pleasurable experience that I still miss. I think you're fortunate to have dramatic seasonsal changes (like peaking - I never used to know what THAT meant until it was mention in recent years!) - It seems so interesting to me!

Anyway - it sounds like TchrMom had the weather on New Years' day compared to any of us on the thread. Plus a state income tax free conclusion to the year to boot! Yeah, I've often mused whether we should consider a relo to save against the gouging our dear Governor (AKA the Ex-Terminator) gives us. Well, er, actually it's the parade of Democratic legislators that have saddled us with some of the HIGHEST state income taxes in humble nation. Heck - it's not just the high taxes but the generally high cost of everthing else. Oh well... it least we're not getting gouged for property taxes even though we've had a nice run up in values.

So much for my evening babbling... :confused3 I have had an upside down sleeping routine since retunring from holiday travels. Everything is upside down from normal - gotta go -

Hap - Hap - HAPPY NU-yee-EAR ta EFF-ver-REE-ONE!

Oh fran you are the lucky ones with weather like that....Glad dave went to florida as well..Seattle is nice but not as nice as florida...

School was cancelled here yesterday and delayed today due to snow..Tomorrow they are prediciting more snow and sleet, ice, etc... so i am sure school will be closed again...lucky us parents....

Kritter, sorry to hear about all the snow--I know haw much you LOVE that cold weather. We've had pretty mild temps here, 40's-50's. I'll take that until spring arrives, but I'm sure we'll get dumped on a few more times at least.

We did go see Cheaper by the Dozen on NYE, and loved it. The little "tom-boy" girl, Sarah, could be my niece's twin. My niece, Brittany, is also VERY athletic, never wears a skirt or dress, pony tail all of the time, etc. Brit is 10 years old (same as Drew), and it made me think of her growing up and dating someday soon. I teared up several times!

We went to my parents on the 2nd to watch the OSU vs Notre Dame game. LOVED IT!!!! OSU 34--Notre Dame 20. Sorry Irish! I was hoping to see Regis Philbin's reaction on Tuesday, but they are playing reruns all week.

Oh and Kritter, that was so cute to hear your daughters are excited to meet Kylie. I'm sure they'll get along great.

I think regis and kelly are new coming this monday so I am sure he will have something to say...He hosted foxs new year eve's countdown on tv and he had on notre dames ex coach and he was to funny he loves the irish...sounds like the game was fun for you and a fun day...
the twins keep asking about kylie how old she is and what she likes etc.. you would think the cruise is tomorrow with all of the questions....They really like to play with new kids and get excited to meet anyone new...So they will really like kylie...
Hope all is well with your family we are getting ready for an ice storm tonight....ugh!! when does it end and how many days left till spring???

OK.......to make you fell better, kritter, it is suppose to get cold here tomorrow evening. I think we're going to get to 47 one night. There.....feel better?

No gym today, so we ran and got Kelly's hair cut. Apparently, USA gymnastic members can not have their ponytails below their shoulders. Who knew???? :confused3

Got to go figure out what kind of chicken to make for dinner tonight...... :guilty:

TcherMOM .... we got you beat for non-NE low temps out here ....

.... last nite dropped down to 41..." burrrr "..... however today it sort of warmed up slightly.

We have about 38 days til our next cruise - a sort of "optional" side trip we were wavering on a month ago. We trying Carnival on their Spirit from San Diego to Mexico for 8 days. It's our first time to the Mexican Riveria (not the usual Mexican Riviera 7 day from LA - as this one hits ports further south). We have not sailed Carnival much for their 7 day or longer trips - as the first REAL cruise we ever took was a 7 day southern cruise about 15 years ago - and since that 1st cruise we never sailed carnival again on a 7 day or longer trip - but we did do a couple 3 and 4 day trips with various groups.

So anyways - I'm sort of looking forward to it - not really sure what to expect. And I guess that's a good thing.

Aside from that - Kitter - it'll be something I'll have to remember about hair length since our Julianna loves her gymnastics classes. She has a session tomorrow evening.

Gotta go,

Kristen....I would book your flight as close to noon as possible, unless you want to hang around for some reason. It takes us 2 1/2 hours to get home and we are always home by 11am. They waste no time kicking you off the ship.

That reminds me (thank you) :paw: ....

... that we should be checking for air fares. :confused3 It looks like one combination of direct flights and dates would only cost us $281 pp inc taxes + fees on our preferred carrier ~ UAL. Not flying UAL would save us $18 - and for that difference we'll stick with UAL. The only thing before we book is I need to consult my DS. And if the past (of only 22 years) is any indication, we'll investigate this for about a month before we actually buy. We will look at different combinations of dates and times - stew on it - then we'll buy.

OK - just consulted the elder princess :hyper2: - and she sez no red eyes. The quote above was for a red eye. And moving earlier on the same dates is not good. SO moving back to arrive a day earlier yields... LOWER fares! It's down to $263 - direct flights - but now our daughter will miss 7 school days instead of 5. The schedule with red eye above minimizes her tardy total from school.

This is going to be our daughters' K-school year - which is mostly why we shifted our usual DCL sail date from Labor Day week in Sept to Halloween. We couldn't sail in September and have her miss her first week in K-school! Besides... we had so much fun sailing with the 2005 DIS group buzzing about - that we noted the 2005 Halloween cruise meet thread had about 15x more activity and 10x more on the thread by head count. :teacher: So we figured this sailng would get pretty lively... to put it mildly.
:disrocks:

Anyways.... in case anyone is interested ;) - we're using ORBITZ to do our initial market search of airfares. Then we cross check with the carrier. If the price is the same that we book with UAL because they give a bonus 1000 miles for on-line booking with them. And actually, their site is ocassionally cheaper than Orbitz (and UAL is a partner in running Orbitz). Go figure? In the old days we used to book through a company called "Cheap Tickets"... but since Orbitz came out - that company has faded into obscurity. Especially after 9-11.

Anyways....

Buck,
Here are two recipes let me know how they come out.....The first one is a dessert not like we need any more of these but oh well...The pork was great and easy and the kdis liked it too...The apples in it may seem weird but were really good...I would have like more stuffing so you might want to make it with more but I think then you would need more water or so???Try the pork is she likes pork or do a roaster chicken in the oven OOh wait I have a great chicken and rice recipe too..Hold on I will run downstairs and get that too for you...

Chicken Parts:

4 to 6 pieces of chicken parts not boneless.. can use it but takes less time to cook.,..
1 cup rice white.
1 package onion soup mix
Chicken broth one can smaller one not the large one (14 ounces)
1 1/2 cups water
Add rice to bottom of pan
place chicken on top of rice add water and broth and sprinkle onion soup on top of chicken and rice, etc...
Bake coverd for one hour and uncover for last half hour, keep checking to make sure not over cooking sooooooo good and sooo easy....the rice is perfect...Lately I have found that one in a half hours is to long so keep checking it...
My kids like this with cranberry sauce..Easy meal.......

Peanut butter UPs

1 cup Butter
1 cup Peanut Butter
2 cups Graham cracker crumbs
1 cup chocolate chips.
2T shortening
2 1/4 cup conf. sugar

In a 2 qt. mixing bowl combine butter and peanut butter...Microwave on high 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 minutes or until melted..Blend well-mix in crumbs and sugar until mixture is stiff..Press into buttered 13 by 9 pan..Melt chips and crisco 2 1/2 to 4 min. at med. temp... chips should be shinny and soft..spread over bars.. cool before cutting....

Chops-on-top and stuffing supper

6 bonelss center-cut pork chops
2TBsp. Grey Poupon Honey Dijon Mustard
2 Tbsp. Margarine
1/4 cup Kraft light Catalina dressing
3 large carrots thinly sliced about 1 1/2 cups
2 large red apples, unpeeled, coarsely chopped about 2 cups.
1 pkg. 6 oz. stove stop stuffing mix.
coat chops with mustard. Melt margarine in large deep nonstick skillet on medium heat..Add chops cook 6 min. on each side or until browned and juices run clear...Remove from skillet and set aside..

Add 1 1/2 cups water, dressing and carrots to skillet...Cook 6 to 8 minutes or until carrots are tender. Stir in apples and stuffing mix,
Return chops to skillet, cover . Turn heat off and let stand 5 minutes..
Makes 6 servings.

Hope these help you out...let me know if you make any of them....

Consider this...................
We live in Tampa.......over 2 hours away from the port. We are home, in bed, by 11:00.
I would make a 12:00 flight without even thinking about it!
