Hmmm....
Gingerbread building... that dredges up fond memories when last year my dear luvable spouse pretty much burned down the house! Or rather, she burned down the gingerbread house we made. You see, we have a 105 pound Samoyed named Sugar - because he likes to eat sugary sweets, and a 105 pound dog that likes sweets gets named sugar. And once you've made a GINGERBREAD house covered with candies and frosting and such - and since Sugar has been watching the kids decorate it and ... with the kids slipping him little tastes of frosting and such you simply do NOT dare leave a GINGERBREAD house unattended - even more so because when a 105 pound Samoyed manages to "steal" anything you pretty much let him have it (even though as Daddy of the house I have always instantly jumped in to interrupt him <fearlessly - foolishly> and I've survived... the kids and Mom let him get things he swipes. And he frequently targets anything sweet smelling.

Well, my dear spouse wanted to "protect" the GINGERBREAD house she and the kids had painstakingly built and decorated together. And the convenient storage place she choose to protect and store the house in was the ... lower oven of our double oven. Well.. I don't exactly recall how or why ... but the next day or so - somebody decided to bake something in the oven - whether it was a pizza or cookies I don't recall - but on using the upper oven we began to notice a smoking emerging from the lower oven. My spouse went over to investigate and on opening the lower oven she found the Ginger bred house was fully in FLAMES!

She started screaming fire! fire! I was just a few steps away and I calmly but quickly stepped over - pulled it out of the oven and asked for a camera. Of course it was still flaming and my wife screamed "FIRE!" "FIRE???!" "... you want a WHAT, CAMERA??" ... "TOM, PUT IT OUTTT!". So I reached over for our fire extinguisher (Halon gas) and puffed it out... and it reignited spontaneously.... (moderately startling, but melodramatic) and I puffed another couple of halon jets to snuff it.
So... the notion of Ginger Bread decorating takes on a whole new meaning 'round our place!

In fact, I recently picked up a Gingerbread house building kit from Costco. I recollect it was only about 7 bucks or so. My older daughter saw it and has been clammoring ... "I wanna make a gingerbread house!". And I mentioned the days shopping discovery to my BIL in Boston and he chuckled that - that brings forth fond memories of last seasons' photos I sent EVERYONE of the Gingerbread house building followed by the final smoldering post-fire house photos! My dear spouse was a good sport about the pix until I broadcast them coast to coast in a photo album entitled "Mom 'almost' burns down the house!". I got more feedback and phone calls (and chuckles) from that album then most! Especially from her siblings and dearest pals. I also got the 9th degree dog house from my spouse too!
So ... oh YEAH, Gingerbread house building..... yep, it was a memorable thing from last year for some reason or other.
LOL!!!!

On another note... Buckifan....
I wuz going to go camp out in line at
Walmart for the $379 HP notebook as my brother in Chicago was "egging me on" about how HE was going to camp out for "HIS" HP. Yeah, in Chicago - camping out overnight is possible ONLY at a 24 hour Walmart where they let you line up INSIDE (supposedly). Well, late last nite my brother admitted he was NOT going to camp out for the same reason we're not doing it... we really don't need another computer.
So.... this morning at about 4:30AM I was awakened by my spouse slipping aay to hit the sales. About a half hour later I was wrangling two kids who had awakened and needed cuddling to get back to sleep. And now I'm up with the younger one - doing the usual thing.
Yeah... maybe I would have gone black friday shopping in an earlier age when we had no kids - but it's just an impractical thing to haul out two kids through early AM shopping just so "I" could go wander through maddening crowds and sleepy eyed neighbors trying to drive quickly through the parking lots to save 10 bucks on something. YEAH - I really look forward to pushing a stroller through THOSE sort of parking lots and crowds. Naww.... I'll just stay home and take my lumps there from the kids alone!
Oh -just chatted with the shop-a-holic spouse... she sez the 8AM report is that it's a MAD HOUSE out there. Everything at Circuit City was picked and gone by 5:30AM! The lines and crowds, parking lots and so on were atrocious. But she did manage to dredge up a few shopping specials. We got a tricycle from Toys R Us and she mentioned a few other things were "found". That's good too. I would hate to hear that she went to all the trouble of running out at 5AM when the doors were opening only tobe completely denied. So - it seems she is having a "good time" - although I'm sure it's singularly "good" only from her POV!
Oh - the older one needs me... gotta run!
Adios!
