We are now booked on the first Halloween cruise. I'm not that excited. I did not know we were orginally booking this. However, we are and I need your help. Do we really need costumes? Can we get away with only a costume for our daughter? What should I expect? I do like to be prepared. Help!!

While the ship will be decorated for Halloween, with various themed activities day to day, the main Halloween festivities are only on one day/evening.

We did 3 Halloween cruises last year, and didn't wear a costume to any of them. In fact, it wasn't that difficult to not be where Halloween was happening. You certainly don't have to wear costumes, if you don't want to. As for your daughter, only you know whether she'll be unhappy or not if she's not wearing one and "everyone else is".

Thank you so much!! for you help. Why would we need to wear a costume? IS there special things? And I heard there was trick or treating? Can you tell me anything about this? Thanks a bunch!!!

The activities vary from ship to ship. The Fantasy had a great adult costume contest, but you're not required to participate. I've heard some ships do have trick-or-treating. Some of the cruise-meets groups do their own. Other cruisers just get a generic baggie of candy in their room, placed there by the stateroom host.

Great advice from jdb. We kind of think of Halloween like Pirate Night. Some people go all out with costumes, sometimes just the kids, sometimes no one in the family. Everyone mixes together just fine. You'll really enjoy seeing all the costumes walking around, and you might want to join in the fun. But, it means extra packing. Whatever, another thing you should NOT worry about in the least. Do what you want. Your daughter, I suspect, would have a blast dressing up.
