I am on a tight budget. I would like some idea's on halloween costumes. Maybe something i can throw together. Can you give me and other's some idea's. my family is going to the halloween party in disney. my son is 15 and me and DH

You could go as the 3 Musketers. Use old/cheap pillow cases and decorate them. Then cut arms and head holes out. Maybe you could even find some cheap hats and/or swords to go with it.

sounds good. Thanks.
Does anyone else have any idea's for the people of these boards. Thank you so mcuh for responding. great idea.

Do you want to stick to a Disney theme for the costumes? If so, the simplest costume is one you purchase :) The Disney Store (online, at least) has them on sale right now and they do have adult sizes.

You could do a simple Dalmatian costume with white sweat pants and shirt. For the spots use a non-raveling black fabric, like a moleskin suede or knit and the paper backed iron-on adhesive (I think it comes in packages or by the yard). Iron the black fabric to the adhesive following directions then cut out your "spots" and iron them to the sweats in whatever patter looks natural. Finish it off with a red dog collar, a tail and some ears (on a head band or white stocking cap) and you're set. You could add a few spots and whiskers to your face if you wanted.

If you don't need to have the costumes be Disney related, one very inexpensive idea is to go as a bag of jelly beans. You just need a large clear pastic bag big enough for you to fit into or you could use some clear plastic sheeting. Cut holes for your legs in the bag/sheeting and for your arms if using a bag. Fill with inflated small balloons - the kind that are sold as water ballons work well, size wise. Finish it off by gathering the plastic around your neck and secure it (loosely, of course) with a big ribbon and bow such as candy stores often use on their prepacked "gourmet" jelly beans. This isn't a good costume if you need to sit down to drive but it isn't something you often see. A similar idea is to go as "white trash" - instead of ballons you fill the bag with white tissue paper that has been crumpled up a bit and use rafiie or twine to tie the bag closed. This one is a little better for sitting but a bit lumpy (yes, I used this idea one year :)).

You could also wear robes, "jammies" and slippers and carry oversize stuffed animals. Make sure to mess up your hair and go as "kids on Christmas morning". One advantage of this is that you are ready for bed as soon as you get back to your room and you also don't have to pack a lot extra just for the cotume.

OK, last idea - go as tourists :) Just see what others at the park look like on a non-costume day and exaggerate the look - maybe matching Disney shirts, hats, wear all your cameras, zinc oxide cream on the nose, etc.

You just gave me my Disney costume! I have been thinking of something easy and that my mom and I can both go as. Last year we were aging mouseketeers. This tourist idea sounds great. I have a couple of hawaiian shirts from our hawaiin trip. Just need a hat! I also need to find a couple of fake plastic cameras as I don't want lug around my real camera. Any ideas? Thanks for the costume idea!

OMG that tourist idea was great! I hate dressing up for Halloween but I think that is so funny.

For a camera, you can make one out of a cardboard box. Just paint it black. That way, it's nice and light.

Oh, another cute and easy idea for kids is to go as a Lipton Tea Bag. My sister was this one year when we were kids and it was a big hit! Just cut head and arm holes in a whie pillow case. Use cardstock to make the tea label look like a Lipton one. Attach it to the shoulder of the pillow case with string. So simple and original!

Another cute idea is to be a snowman. You just need white sweats. Take three big black pom poms for the coal. Find a pipe and a top hat, and you're good to go.

Does everyone dress up for the Halloween party?

Disneystore.com has the long sleeve PJ pals on sale for $9.99. They have great themes.

The Power Ranger and Buzz look just like a costume. Add a hat or mask and you have a cheap costume!

what great idea's everyone. they all sound great. you have me stumped. LOL

To make the camera's you can use the pint size milk cartons. I can do this with my pre school class. What a great idea.

Does everyone dress up for the Halloween party?

At the 10/31 party last year I'd say about 70% of people were dressed up. Just remember if you want to ride the rides-- you'll need a costume that allows easy loading. Also, it was really humid and hot-- much different than our layered Halloween's up north here.

There is a cute one on the cover of family fun magazine this month. It's a little boy in a khaki shirt, shorts, and hat, and he's got around his neck a foam rubber crocodile -- he's Steve Irwin the Crocadile Hunter. Would be really quick to pull together.

i was just looking in a magazine. Little red riding hood. It was only 14 dollars. it has the hooded cape and the hair. so maybe if i wore red shorts it will look good together. What color shirt did little red riding hood wear? White?

frstimer128, you took mine, lol. I did this one year, but I simply dressed all in brown and hung a LIPTON tag from my neck.

Another easy one is to dress all in red, pin a huge "C" to your chest and go as......the RED SEA! (My SIL did that one year. I thought it was cute and easy)

Lori P. :)

Shirley B- last year (2003) I dressed DD the same way and made her an "Hello My Name is" badge and she went as Terry Irwin, the crocodile huntress!! I also duct taped small snakes and lizards spilling out of her pockets. I put her hair in a high ponytail ala Terry and stuck a baseball cap on her head. And here I thought I invented that costume...

I'm going to Disney (first time since I was 13 years old) with two other mom's and all our kids -- 3 mom's and 8 kids -- should be fun! I just can't wait -- reading these boards has really gotten me fired up!!!! Anyway, we'll be there for Halloween, and here's what we're gonna do for costumes for the kids:

Last summer we all went to Kings Island (an amusement park here in Ohio) for a boy scout outing. That day all the kids "won" (ha ha, we had to let them play until they won) big fuzzy hats in crazy colors -- we called them "pimp" hats because they looked so groovy. Anyway, once one kid had one, they all had to have one. We spent a lot of money at that game, but by golly, every scout and sibling there had a groovy fuzzy hat.

We're bringing those hats and getting the kids matching tie-dyed t-shirts, and those huge clown sized sunglasses that you can get at the dollar store. That's gonna be their costumes.

The kids are excited about getting to dress up all alike ...and we don't have to worry too much about fiddling around with costumes. Last Halloween, my 4 year old wore his $40 Scooby Doo costume for about 5 minutes before he decided it was too "ouchy". I should have known better.

Thanks everyone for the great info and tips here. I'm excited to have found such a wonderful community. I feel like I'm "home" and this is my first post!!!!

Another idea close to the above: Last year I went as a "Zoo Keeper" Perhaps one from Animal Kingdom. I wore Khaki shirt, Short and a hat. I got those animals that have velcro hands. Attached 1 animal each around my leg, arm and neck.

Raggedy, if you have a pair of red shorts and a red shirt maybe you can get away with being little red riding hood that way. And maybe put on a red hat.

thanks that is a good idea. I have blonde hair, so i can curl it and put on the hat or i can make my own cape. Thanks alot.

Very cute ideas!! Keep them coming:)
One year when my sister was little she decided the night before Halloween that her store bought costume was too itchy. Her teacher told them they ha to dress up so she was very upset.Along the same idea as the bag of jelly beans, We blew up purple balloons(left over from a bday party) and put them all over her purple sweatsuit and put a felt stem as a hat and made her GRAPES. She actually got extra credit for being creative.LOL
