Inspired by the thread criticizing the type of candy given out at MNSSHP ... What type of candy is typically given out in your neighborhood on Halloween? We usually get between 200 and 250 kids and very, very few of the houses in our area give out chocolate. If they do, they give out the bite size bars and each kid only gets one, not a handful. More people give out the non-chocolate stuff like sprees, twizzlers, malted milk balls etc. I was just wondering what is given out where you live?

People here typically give out the fun sized bars! We don't have that many trick-or-treaters anymore which makes me sad-- it's my favorite holiday!!

I make up sandwich bags full of candy, all kinds including chocolate.

We live out in the country and get very few trick-or-treaters, in fact the last couple of years I think it has only been grandchildren and I make up even bigger bags (like lunch size sacks) of candy, treats, and toys for them.

Well we do Halloween up BIG in our neighborhood. We have the "knowns" basket and the "unknowns" basket.
Neighborhood kids, friends of my children, people we know get FULL SIZE candy bar.
HOME MADE COSTUME gets FULL SIZE candy bar.

Everyone else gets the fun size stuff- a handful.

We started getting MOBS of kids that I didn't know when one of my neighbor's was handing out $5 to each kid!

Reese's peanut butter cups
Twix
Snickers

We always give (and receive) good stuff. We don't go to houses that give out the cheap stuff.

we trick or treat with friends, b/c we live in the country in the middle of nowhere. i take candy (usually some type of candy bars) to give out to the other children we run into on our route, since we have no trick or treaters out here. the kids usually receive good candy too. whatever we don't like, we throw away, but it's usually only a few pieces. the local fire station gives everyone popcorn, and the exxon station gives out hot dogs, which usually takes care of supper for that night, lol.

I would say that Reece's, Milky Way and Twix are the most popular here. After that you see a lot of sweettarts, toostie rolls, suckers, and gum. We give out a variety of candy, a handful if they are in costume and any age. We don't get as many kids here as we did in our old neighborhood though-only about 60. We used to get around 200.

We get around 100 kids. We give out treat size chocolates like Snickers, Kit Kats, etc. I keep some Starburst for kids who can't have chocolate. Our neighbors all seem to do the same. We have 90 homes in the neighborhood but it's pretty rural (over 6 miles if you went to every house), so we do a hayride for all the kids, to trick or treat.

Almost all the houses give out chocolate- not to many give out the crap candy like sweet tarts or twizzlers. We give out 2 fun size bars per kid, we usually have peanut butter cups, nutragous, snickers....stuff like that so if its leftover it is candy that my daughter likes and will eat. My neighbor gives out hte full sized bars- she buys them in Costco and what she doesn't use and open she returns, last year she went through over 200 of them- this year we have to majorly stock up since its on a weekend it means trick or treaters from about noon till 8-9pm! Boy I remember how great it was as a kid and halloween fell on a weekend,, we were out the whole day and evening trick or treating all over the place! My daughter is very excited about the marathon day of trick or treating this year!

The majority of houses give chocolate bars around here. We live in a very hilly neighborhood and the houses are not close together. It takes great effort to trick or treat around here so they get rewarded well.:rotfl:

We have a dentist on the block and that is the kids favorite house! They get a toothbrush, go figure.:rotfl2:

Fun-Sized bars... Snickers, Hershey's...

I was REALLY thinking of getting those McDonalds coupons... $1 for 12 coupons, stuff like small fries or a cone or an apple pie! We don't get many kids, so for $3, kids could get a nice drive-thru snack for after school or something!

I remember when I was a kid and getting to a house late that ran out of candy, they started hitting the penny jar! Big difference. If a neighbor was handing out $5.00 bills around here I bet we would be mobbed too! That can't last too long.

I loved the candy at MNSSHP.

We get tons of kids around here, and our daughter comes home with a little bit of everything from fun-size chocolate bars to candy corn to play-doh. One lady in the neighborhood even makes donuts for the trick-or-treaters. A couple of houses give out the full-size candy bars which is always a big hit. I do know that alot of people in my neighborhood have been hit hard financially, and I found myself wondering the other day if that would have an effect on the candy. Not that it matters, but when you get 150 kids coming to your door, it gets expensive.

we give out different things each year.....since DD's birthday is Halloween, we tend to have TONS of things!

I get between 300-500 kids every year. I usually give two or three pieces, including a small chocolate bar and a tootsie pop or blow pop because they are cheap but more substantial than other inexpensive candy.
I would love to give out homemade treats but the parents around here would most likely throw them out. The old "poison candy" stories are still widely believed...

We only get a few kids each year. Since I'm always optimistic that I'll get a bunch of trick or treaters and buy a big bag of assorted fun sized chocolate bars from Sam's, I give out handfuls to each kid--asking what kind is their favorite and giving them more of that kind.

we get all kinds of candy up here. In my immeadiate neighborhood, they give out full size bars since we only get about 10 ToTers each house. When we go to the next town on Main St, we get bite size handfuls.

We get those coupons handed out a lot.

I couldn't even tell you what is typical around here -- it varies so much what my kids get. I know my daughter even got cans of pop (or soda ;) ).

We give out the fun size bars. There is one house up the way that gives out full sized candy bars. It's just all over the board. We are in a really big kid neighborhood, we never make it through the entire neighborhood. My boys only last about an hour of trick or treating before they wear out and end up at home being the ones to hand out the candy instead.

We live in an apt for the last 5 yrs and never once have we gotten any trick-or-treaters. Which I am upset about. i love Halloween

Around here, most people with kids give out the fun sizes of the good stuff --various chocolate bars, M&Ms, Skittles, Jr Mints, Hot Tamales, etc. The people without kids seem to get those gigantic bags of "kid mix" at Costco and give out Tootsie rolls, Laffy Taffy and dum dums.
