Halloween 2011. Oct 29th on the Magic

Hi everyone,

I have no clue as to what we want to do at each port of call. I have been very busy since I booked our cruise for this October but now I want to get with the program and start planning! It's just me (36), hubby (40) and parents (mom 70 - step-dad 68). This will the first time hubby and I go without kids (not our kids). We don't have any. So don't know what to do for just us and our parents (much older). Any suggestions?

I can't wait to book Palo. Yum!

Wally and I are planning in Cozumel to do the Jeep excersion...from what I read, if your parents are in good health, they should be able to do this its mostly driving (stick) but a good way to see of the sights and island.
Grand Cayman not sure what we are doing.... Key West thinking of doing the conch train ride around town, I did that last time, but Wally wasnt with me, so might do it again so he can see Key west....Oh yeah and Keylime pie...that was another miss last time, this time gonna get me some keylime:thumbsup2

I know we are 4 months out, and I really am not looking forward to holidays or winter yet, but I really am sooooo ready for this cruise.

gotta run

Good Morning everyone!
I know I saw this mentioned in an earlier post but does everyone already have their excursions planned for each port? I'm not 100% sure what we are doing yet. I think that we might do the Adventure park in Cozumel or Nachi Cocom. My DH and I did the Adventure Park excursion with RCCL and we really enjoyed it. My DD15 really wants to do a dolphin swim so that might be something that we do with her in Grand Cayman.

It is just DH and me on this trip - we are doing Nachi in Cozumel (LOVE that beach), Rays, Reef and Rum Point in Grand Cayman with Nativeway and nothing in Key West. I would like to walk to the winery but we shall see - if we choose to do brunch that day, might not do anything if it is super hot and humid (which it has been everytime we have ever been there).

Ana - what do your folks like to do? The bus tour in KW is nice plus you can get your tickets online for a discounted price. You can get off and on the bus at any stop. On our first trip to Cozumel, we took a taxi tour on our own and saw the sights, including the Tequila factory. Now that we have been to Nachi Cocum (all inclusive beach that only sells 'x' number of tickets for the day) we just go there - super nice beach, great service and good food/drink.
In Grand Cayman we have done Nativeway tours several times - very reputible and always had a good tour. Have you ever visited the Cruise Critic boards? They have different destination boards that are great for researching options.

For Palo are you doing dinner or brunch???

I did the dinner in 2006 but I thought it was ok, I didnt think there was a lot of options....I really like their brunch..so i think we will just do a brunch...

DH isn't a fan of dinner either but would eat brunch up there every day possible. I enjoy dinner myself but also think that brunch is about the best meal on the ship. I am really thinking we will do this on Sunday.

My husband and I have had dinner at Palo and liked it, although we haven't had brunch there. Because of the great reviews for brunch... I think this time we will have brunch there instead.

However, I would like for my parents to have dinner there too but I am afraid of reserving dinner for one of the nights that we may miss out on one of the other themed restaurants. I want my parents to have dinner at each of the themed restaurants as well since they are special in their own way.

Thanks. My parents are very active and are willing to do anything. My step-dad drives stick so the Jeep would be great. They love to see nature. Those are the types of things we would like to do with them.

Wow, I feel like I'm in the minority here - one of the few traveling with kids on Disney. Who would have thought?

Our kids range from 5 -11. None of them are super adventurous, especially around water, so it kind of limits our options for excursions. We're going to do Key West on our own, Boatswains Turtle Farm in GC, Tulum/Discover Mexico Park in Cozumel, and a simple beach day at CC.

I've been leaning towards booking brunch at Palo for DW and myself. Hoping to do it on one of the sea days.

My son (8) wants to 'hurry up the summer' so he can go on the cruise. I guess my excitement is finally wearing off on someone in the family.:thumbsup2

Welcome to the new posters, it's nice to have some more people around here.

@ sailworkless...I'm travelling with Little ONES..so I'm really in the minority!!!!

Hey Shasess!! glad you made it over here!!

I wasn't going to do brunch at Palos on this trip...but now with all this mention of it...ugh I might just have to do it!!

I plan on doing Palos dinner on the 4th night...we'll see.

It is so nice that they are so active and love to do things. I will say, the stingray trip is one of the highlights of my life - absolutely amazing. I am sure you will all have a great time.

What time dining does everyone have?

Wally and I have early dining....he goes to bed very early, he is up at 2am and leaves for work at 4am and dosnt get home until 4pm...very long day for him...so his body cannot adjust to the late dinner....if anyone is interested maybe we can link reservations....better to sit with someone we kinda know than with someone we dont....

think I'm gonna book brunch on the first sea day...I think its monday but cant remember...yumm

my plans for castaway just laying in a hammock and letting the servers bring me drinks....ahhhhh now thats the life...!!!

I havent cruised on any other lines, and this is only my third cruise, so I am no expert here by any means....but when I cruised with my friend in 2008, she has been on a lot of cruise and all different cruise lines....she still is telling people that Disney was the best cruise she was on.....so even tho my kids are grown and the Disney "gene" skipped them....I still go without kids and the best part....I am grooming my 2 year old grandaughter.....she already loves Mickey...:lovestruc just want her a little older then I think I can convience my daughter and son-in law to come cruising with me!!:thumbsup2

I'm afraid my kids are going to have too good of a time. Then they're going to be all over us about more cruises. If we create any Mickey-Maniacs we're in big trouble. I'd love for this to be a regular thing, but with 4 kids, and living a plane ride from any port, the "fun" budget won't cover an event like this on a regular basis!

We're planning to make the most of this trip.

Well thats the sad thing about Disney they are more expensive than other cruise lines, however, even tho I dont have kids I still think Disney is top of the line and I'm hardly disappointed by them....but even if you did this type of trip every other year or two years...you kids are always going to remember this...
so when they are grown with kids of their own, you get to go along for the ride:thumbsup2 and if your lucky they will pay:rotfl:

Good morning everyone! Sailworkless - we make the most each time we go as one never knows. DH lost his job several years ago and can't find another so we swing it on mine. My cruising will come to an abrupt stop if something happens to that. But, I do know that I will NEVER leave one of those ships again without having made at least one booking. The deposit is only half of what it is when made on land, you get 10% off, an onboard credit and you can move it to another date. DCL prices are the lowest the day they are released so book one and then move it to something in 2013, 14 or even 15. I was such an idiot when I was on the PC earlier this year, I came home with extra cash and didn't book anything and I have since booked two cruises. But, I will book two and try to move my December Fantasy next year to one of those.

Well, we had quite a few thunderstorms last night but nice now - and only in the 50's. Enjoy your day!!

Good Rainy morning....

It has been raining since about 3am here, lighting and thunder and its just plain dark outside, flooding roads on the way to work.....nice start to the day.
Yesterday it was 95 today 65....then 70's tomorrow thru the weekend....

I booked this cruise on my 2008 cruise then kept moving it around....I am booking on board again, for the Fantasy....and will most likely push the date out...since my son is getting married september of 2012, I most likely wont go until 2013 or even 2014....I really want my daughter and her family to come along, she is in the army and its just hard for her to plan anything in advance. I have talked to her that I was going to rebook on board, and would like her to come along, she is all for it but just cannot pin down a date with her.....

Well better run and start working, since they pay me to work and not play on the computer...:confused3:laughing:

have a good one

We got hammered with storms last night, too. Luckily, we missed out on the damage. (hail the size of baseballs and winds up to 80 mph nearby) Went from 95 yesterday afternoon to 60 this am.

Gail, since you're booking 2 cruises, we could just take your second one for you.:thumbsup2

Not sure I'll get me wife to approve of putting money down on a vacation we won't take for years. She has a long list of other places she wants to visit. This cruise will have to knock her off her feet to put another cruise in line before some of her other dream destinations.

Still trying to get our reservations fixed. Our two cabins aren't linked, and one can start booking things July 1 (the one with my son) and the other can't book until August 15. I'd like to get everything done before the July 1 date, so I can book all our stuff at once, but I feel bad about being a PITA for our Make A Wish rep.

Have a great day! Only 141 days, I think!:woohoo::woohoo:

Baseball size hail - gads. We had some thunder and lightening but no where near what you have said and we have nothing now. I woke up enough to shut windows and went right back to sleep. I have a dog that doesn't really like the thunder and I didn't hear a peep from him so it must not have been too bad here. There were no dents in the truck or broken windows so I am sure that the hail, if we had any, wasn't very big at all.

Have a good day everyone - stay dry.

We spent an hour in the basement while the heavy stuff was coming through. My five year old wouldn't sleep alone after. She was worried there was more coming. Absolutely wouldn't believe us that it was over for the night. My oldest believed me til she was 10. Now I guess I won't know anything for another 15 years or so. The running joke around our house is "just because I said it doesn't mean it's not true."

Fifth grade promotion here tonight, and pre-school "graduation" on Sunday. (What a ridiculous concept!:))

Have a great weekend everyone!

Since sometimes I don't beleive the things that come out of my mouth, I am not so sure anyone else should either ;). You enjoy ALL the activities, milestons and graduations. We raised 3 boys and the last one graduates from college next April and is getting married next August. I miss all the band, choir, football, baseball, basketball, track (well maybe not so much track), soccer games and everything that went with it. How I ever got old enough to have a son that is 30 is beyond me!

I feel your pain, my daughter is 31 and son 29....so since I'm still 39 I dont know how they got that old??:confused3:confused3:eek:
But I miss them, my daughter is out of state has been for 11 years and my son lives 10 minutes from me.....but I sure miss them around the house...I really dislike my one and only grandchild living so far away, but I do take a few trips a year to go visit....:thumbsup2

We had sun for awhile, but now its starting to cloud up again, about the hail last night?? Someone here said it was hailing, if it did I must have slept thru it!!
