My review of this movie: I fell asleep twice while trying to get through it twice. The main character (Paul Campbell) doesn't even SOLVE the case, so he's not really a sleuth solving a mystery.
I get why Paul Campbell wanted to act this. He gets to play a very different type of character than what he's used to playing. On the one level, that may be a actor's dream. And Hallmark wants to show different types of movies than their norm.
But, Paul and Hallmark both seem to forget one fundamental fact: audiences like to watch LIKEABLE characters. And heroes/lead characters need to be HEROES, not wimpy characters, especially flacid, wimpy MEN get who accidentally get caught by the murderer, and almost murdered himself. Then the murderer was caught trying to murder Paul by other people - not Paul being strong and HEROIC.
It's not enough (for me) to watch a likeable actor playing an unlikeable character because he wants to play something different.
And the relationship with his wife was weird and annoying.
If you like Paul and want to see him again, rewatch him in
A Godwink Christmas which, I just found out, the IMDb .com says has now been RENAMED to
A Christmas Coincidence. WHAAAT??? WHY???
