Hallmark Christmas Movies - ways to watch

LOL I know, I know, before anyone says it they are all the same love story. Leads up to the relationship, 10 mins before movie ends they get into a fight and 5 minutes before it ends they make up. But my parents love the Christmas movies and I get suckered into them too.

So it brings me to my question. My parents don't have cable, they have all these different services they subscribe to. Their anniversary is coming up and I was going to gift them a subscription to something to watch the Hallmark movies. Last year they did Philio from Nov - Jan. In looking at Philio it appears you get 3 Hallmark channels; Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mysteries and Hallmark Drama. Philio is $20/mo so $60 for the timeframe they like the Christmas movies. But I see Hallmark has their own app, Hallmark Movies Now which looks like it includes the Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mysteries and Hallmark Hall of Fame. So basically swapping out Drama for Hall of Fame. And that is $60 for a year, so they could watch the other movies throughout the year.

I realize Philio has a more extensive network of channels. But the only other one they have watched is HGTV and I recently put the app on their TV with my cable login.

Does anyone do the app fro the Hallmark Movies Now? Is "Hallmark Channel" what is needed to do the Christmas movie? Or would they be missing out on the Christmas movies by not doing Philio and not having the Drama channel?

I've never heard of Philo. If/when I finally cut the cord, I'd get Sling. You get all 3 Hallmark channels, plus many other streaming channels.

I don't have the Hallmark app. It never appealed to me. Sounds like they've changed it's offerings. But, I'd rather pay and get more of a selection for the money.

The hallmark app is a disappointment. The movie selection on the app is sub par. For a paid app, they should have the full library of movies at all times. They are constantly rotating the selection, and the selection of the Christmas movies is severely lacking at all times of the year. I’m also not sure you get access to the actual channel through the app, just movies. You’d be better off getting a streaming service and getting the 3 channels. I know Sling has the ability to get you all 3 channels. Heck, I had to susbscribe to sling in addition to our regular cable because our cable provider doesn’t have Drama.

Yes, this is why I never got the paid app. WHY pay for old movies, and a small selection at that, but not get the actual TV Channel selections too?

OP, make sure to clarify that when the Hallmark Movies Now says it includes the Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mysteries and Hallmark Hall of Fame, that it doesn't mean just a small selection of movies from each channel instead of full access to each channel.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Especially the tip through Hallmark app if it’s the actual channel or just a selection of shows, appears just a selection of shows with the app not actual channel. Lol no wonder so cheap.

Yeah, the app is bad. But if all you want is Hallmark, try Frndly TV. (Yes, it's spelled that way. Drives me nuts, but whatever.) It's only $8/month for the basic plan. Has all 3 Hallmarks, the Weather Channel, Curiosity Stream, and a few other channels. Pixl TV is on there, too, and has commercial free movies that are similar to the Hallmarks. I don't know what Pixl offers at Christmas as I've only had it since earlier this year, but I suspect it has a share of cheesy Christmas, too!

I saw the title, thought "with alcohol" was the only way to watch, and then read through the thread.

Anyway, maybe check if Amazon Prime has it on StackTV? If you have Prime, that is.
