I'm driving end of June from CT to Disney, going I-95. what would be the halfway mark and if you go speed limit how many hours is total trip if you only stop occasionally for quick bathroom breaks.

Not sure where you are in CT but I think the trip from my house is around 18-19 hours (OK that can be pretty much anywhere in CT except the north eastern part of the state). I have never driven it but I did look up a trip tic a few months ago when we were deciding whether to drive or fly. Thank goodness flying won!

I know it took us a full days drive to get to Myrtle Beach (so we do it in 2 days). I think that is about a 10-12 hour drive. But it has been 5 or 6 years since we drove there.

Do you have AAA? You can print a trip tic or you can go to map quest & do one there.

Just remember rush our in CT on 95 from New Haven to the NY line & then from NY all the way to mid-Jersey. And then the DC area gets congested too. Otherwise I think traffic wise you'd be OK as long as you don't go into those areas at rush hour.

I also would pick NC like Raleigh to be about the half way point. there are a few cities fairly close together that you could chose from...I'd guess the trip should be about 19hrs min. with stops and no large traffic jams..

We've been driving just about every year for the last 14 years from Trumbull and for a good stop half way I would recommend either Lumberton NC or Florence SC. You will find just about every chain hotel you can think of at either of these stops and there is also a great selection of restaurants. We've stayed at the Holiday Inn in Lumberton which was very nice. We usually always tried to push ourselves the first day and go as far as Walterboro SC or even Savannah GA which then left us with 5 hours to WDW. We love the drive and have always looked at it as getting there is half the fun. This year however, with our 18 month old DD with us, we are taking the Auto train. We will actually miss the drive for ourselves but feel this will be much easier on her. Let me know if you need any other advice about the trip, and have a safe and fun trip!

Our total trip time is usually about 16-17 hours. Stopping in either Lumberton or Florence will have you on the road approx. 8 hours each day.

AnnetteF, I am from Trumbull also. what a small world.

I just drove down last week from CT. We decided against I95. We took 84-81-77-26-95-4. It sounds long and complicated but it wasn't. We didn't have any problems w/ traffic at all. We left around 10 am and stopped in Virginia to sleep around 9:30 PM, got up (left hotel around 9 AM) and drove the rest of the way to orlando, arriving around 8:30 PM. It was a good experience. We only hit a $1 toll in NY on I84.

Hey I am from Trumbull too. OK I was but my parents & sister still live there & I go to visit often (I had to move to Deep River because I got married, darn hubby!).

I will be at Trumbull Day, wouldn't miss it since I have been going for 30+ years.

Hi Monorailsilver,

Small world, Bridgeport/Trumbull married DH from Chester. Just joined DVC in Feb.

That's so funny that we're all in Trumbull.

Daname, welcome to DVC. We've been DVC members since '92 and we love it. It is the best thing we've ever done!

Hi Luv Donald Duck,

My family will be driving the 84-81-77-26-95-4 route in august and I'm curious, what town in Virginia did you stop in?

thanks

Daname

Even smaller world, my dh is from Chester & I am a nurse so he made me move up this way to find a job.

I used to work at the Jewish Home in Fairfield & now work up this way & my dh has worked at Whelen for 20 years (I think).

I've made the trip many times to both WDW and Myrtle Beach. I second Lumberton, NC as a good stopping point.

We went to MB in April and there was a big problem with bridge construction in NC, I believe around exit 36, it was down to one lane in each direction. It was 2-3 hrs. getting through that alone. You may want to check on the status of that. I also like the AAA Triptiks because they are well marked for what's ahead, gas, food etc. They also mark alternate routes sometimes, handy if you get detoured due to road closures.

I'll chime in on Lumberton, too! We've stayed there a couple of times on our drive from MA (near RI) to WDW. Last year we stayed at the Fairfield Inn, I got it for $59 I think through AAA website. The hotel was great! Right off one of the Lumberton exits (#20 I think). The room was clean and in great shape and they had a yummy and very clean continental b-fast in the morning. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. We've also stayed at the Holiday Inn. DH likes this one b/c it has a sports bar attached to it and a 24 hour Denny's. Lumberton was about 14 hours from SE Mass with stops. WDW was around 10 hours from there.
